Spoke to a Blackburn fan who didn't think he was that great. Said he scored a lot because absolutely everything went through him and their entire team was designed to get him chances but didn't think he'd cut it in the prem.
-
I'm sorry I simply don't agree that we can't survive this year without dropping 40 million on a striker.
-
Well then I disagree. There's no reason at all to believe that we can't spend substantially less than that on a striker or two and manage to survive this year. I still think it's likely we will go down but we don't need to spend that much on one player to prevent it.
-
Be serious. We aren't spending 40 million on a striker.
-
True. I'd probably put him down as a maybe in Martins system though.
-
I think he's a nice lad just don't think he's prem quality.
-
Available players who I am confident will be able to do a job in the prem or who has previously done a job: Sugawara THB Bednarek Taylor Downes Players who may do a job but not sure: Edwards Armstrong Lallana Stewart Aribo So quite a few unknowns and midfield and attack is the main thing that needs improving. There might be a couple who surprise us though.

True. Maybe he was headhunted by his previous boss.

Do bore off soggy.

Thanks captain obvious. I was discussing a possibility.

There is a bit of a feeling about that what with the closing of the satellite academy (we may have had no choice in the matter but didn't seem to contest it) along with talk of restructuring.
-
Yes but the volume of losses in a short space of time may suggest something else beyond people simply leaving for bigger clubs.

Is there something rotten to behind the scenes? We've lost so many staff and a fair amount of youth players too.
-
He would just be swapping one bench at Arsenal for another.
-
Why woukd Ramsdale go to Newcastle with pope recovered from injury?
-
Logically it would make no sense to not offer him a contract so we can assume he hasn't wanted to sign. Martin has said we will try to keep him.
-
No I'd probably look to get a reasonable player on a free or lower cost. I'm not sure I'd see it as a backup though, simply a different way of playing. I'm not sure we could risk our survival depending on Downes playing every week.
-
I'd say having an effective alternative to Downes is up there with one of our most important signings of the summer. Last year showed how toothless we were without him. We will badly need another way of playing if he isn't available. Agree about centre back we are most likely done in defence unless we want a utility man for depth.
-
Even an alright striker would be fine for us. Not one like carillo or Onuachu who you watch play and wonder why we ever thought it would work with us in even the most optimistic of scenarios.
-
I just think our attacking midfield and attack needs strengthening so badly that I don't think we will be able to afford to improve it to the degree it needs improving without selling him. If I was kwp I wouldn't be signing a new contract unless I'd got comfortable living in the area or something like that.
-
We are just going to sell him. Unless there's a total change and he signs a new contract and there's been no indication of that. My prediction is 15-20 million to spurs late in the window.
-
We've obviously brought in Sugawara with an expectation that kwp leaves.
-
I would be astounded if kwp stayed and we then played him out of position on the left.
-
It is if one of the punts pays off. A bit like when we got pahars for example. Given that we don't have much in the way of resources relatively, I like the approach and it will be interesting to me to see if it pays off. We've obviously seen something in Wellington that makes us believe he's worth a go.
