things are not good, granted, but to write the season off in the middle of October is just too pessimistic for me. I think we should wait until March at the earliest to start thinking about relegation.
-
yeah, but the Titanic was on course to New York just after it left Southampton too!

where do you sit? From my seat in the northam the second half he was very poor. their third (or second?) goal one of their fellas was pinning Kelvin to the ground. just one example. but from my spot he was not a good ref. too many errors. and yes, the booking should have been a red. no question. you are in the box, you deny a goal scoring opportunity and give away a penalty then the book says "you're off sonny jim". Sorry, can't see how you can think he ref'd that game well.

When the team sheet came out yesterday it really sank home just how young and inexperienced our lads are. Other than Kelvin and Drew you would'nt have recognised any of the others this time last year. I'll give them this though: they didn't let up, they did play with passion and energy for the full 93 minutes. We all know that some games last season - after burley left - they dragged their feet and counted down the minutes until they could go home. Not so yesterday. That is the positive. The negatives are: Why wasn't surman taking the pens? Why haven't they practiced where to stand when defending a corner - it helps to have someone on the near post at the very least? Why do they still hesitate to have a crack at goal when they are in the box? How did that ref pass through ref-school. He was not just "we lost so the ref's useless" bad, he was truly, truly shockingly bad. And the most important question of all: How long can the club stay solvent when we are now consistenly getting gates below 18,000 and losing an estimated £100k per week. Come on you saints, bounce back and get a result up at shefield.
-
we have to get someone in who knows what he's doing at the back. Their second goal there was no one on either of the posts when the corner came in. School boy stuff really.

Actually there is strong statistical evidence showing that young lads who get into trouble with the police are more likely to come from broken families. I am not suggesting for a minute that kids from stable families don't go off the rails but the facts are that kids - usually boys - who do not have a male role model (aka Dad) in their lives are more likely to get into trouble. And please get off you high horse. You are very condescending when you pompously assume that I am young and that my posts are "immature". I am not young and I know more about this subject than most. Partly through experience and partly through research undertaken whilst lobying parliament.

Oh please! Wake up. The EU a guardian of democracy??? Pull the other one mate. The EU is not democratic in any way shape or form. If you need reminding the people of France and Holland told the EU dictators to shove their constitution up their backsides and what did our EU masters do? Did they say "Ok, fair enough, you don't want it we won't give it to you". Did they heck! They brought it back and now the ****-robbing labour prime minister McBroon has completely disregarded his own manifesto and is not prepared to give us a vote on it. Please, don't anyone tell me the EU is democratic or the "guardian of democracy". The damn EU hasn't even had its accounts signed off for ELEVEN YEARS !!!!
-
indeed, and I am by no means one of those who think Hitler was a good bloke. The fact remains though that a democracy is supposed to be democratic - Haider was much more than a Nick Griffin of the BNP. The BNP gets a tiny proportion of the vote and can easily be ridiculed by the main parties. Haider was a main stream politician leading a main stream party. His party was censored by the completely undemocratic EU going against the expressed wishes of the people of Austria. The EU has more in common with a totalitarian fascist state than Haider's Freedom Party ever had.
-
oh here we go. the anti-fascist brigade are out in force again. Just to remind you all that he was voted for by more than one third of Austria. That means that proportiionaly more people in Austria liked his policies than British people like the lib-dems policies. So what if he thought Hitler was a good bloke? A lot of people in 1930s Germany also thought Hitler was a good bloke. The funny thing about democracy is that as soon as enough people hold "far right" views the country is told that in the interest of democracy those people's views will not be tolerated. Go figure.

To the original poster: Mate, you are living in a frickin dream world. The bunch of R-s Holes in government at the moment never could, and certainly never will, give an ounce of monkey t0ss about straight white men. If you're black or brown or yellow then they are only slightly more interested. To even think that the courts would treat a father equal to a mother is to live in a fantasy world. My best mate was and always is a fantastic father to his two girls. When he split from his wife she even went on record to say that their relationship had just grown cold - there was no shouting, no violence and certainly nothing that would indicate that my mate was in anyway a bad father to his girls. However his wife was convinced by some ****-robbing little fart of a solicitor (who was a confirmed militant lesbian) that it was best to fight in court for sole custody as problems might occur in years to come. He can only see his girls every other weekend. And he has his wages docked £89 per week direct into his ex's bank account. She has just had a holiday in Greece with her new partner who is very wealthy. Mate, justice for men and Dads is not going to happen with this bunch of shisters in government at the moment. I am extremely sorry to hear your news but unfortunately it is all too common in this feminized society we live in. And they wonder why kids grow up as feral street dwellers? Simple, Mum may be necessary for breast feeding but Dads are vital too.

I think everyone here should spare a moment's thought for the Government. They have just spent £500 billion helping their banking buddies buy this year's yacht, the deficit is masively out of control and that is before all the PFI deals are included and now they are getting less VAT on fuel as the price has dropped. I personally feel very sorry for them...... NOT!!

Bad luck mate. I know what it feels like. Chin up, something will come along....

In these dark credit-crunched days we all could do with a bit of a laugh so here's something really amusing. I was in a cab yesterday afternoon and the radio was on. Apparently the Cats Protection Society has got eleven million quid - yes 11 MILLION!!! - in an Icelandic bank. Rumour has it that a lot of moggies are going without being protected at the moment. I don't know where to go with this piece of news. Two days ago South Today informed us that a children's charity here in the south had five million in Iceland, and was facing ruin as a result. I was genuinely full of tears at the news. So when a very sombre-sounding news reader came on the airwaves and told me that the Association of Mad Old Women Who Love Cats had 11 MILLION tucked away I did have a chuckle. And then I felt very ashamed. After all these Mad Old Women are obviously very devoted feline lovers. They set up camp in rural village halls and Metropolis Malls alike, shaking their collection tins at us. Although in many cases the shaking is involuntary. Their kindly smiles and moth-ball smelling clothes create an atmosphere of nostalgia for rationing, clipped BBC accents and that all important 'bugger Jerry, we're British!' attitude which won us our freedom to help cats find protection in the first place. While we can marvel at their ability to raise eleven million quid I do think it speaks volumes about our national obsession with the collection-tin-shaking industry. I mean, while I would never willingly hurt a tabby I don’t think they are in need of more protection than human children. It is a weird old world.

since when? it still shows as an asset on the balance sheet, as of last annual report. and also the money being used to buy the banks' shares is new bond issues so unless aviva buys direct from the primary market they won't yet own any of the bonds being used to buy the banks. so i don't owe you a beer -

this 1976_Child chap is a complete nutter! -
You heard it here first! HM Treasury (aka the government) now has an involvement in our football club! "What? eh? 1976_Child is a nutter!" I hear you all say Well, let me explain. Unless you have been living on Mars over the last few days you will know that the government has just bought a huge slug in our nation's banks. Barclays is one of these banks. And SFC owes a shed load of dosh to Barclays, and now to HM Treasury. So although the Treasury does not (yet) own shares in Southampton Leisure Holdings plc it does own shares in Barclays and therefore has St Mary's stadium as collateral against the club's debt. weird times. as a tax payer i demand free beer at the next home game!!

eh? it was only a light humoured dig at him-down-the-road. I actually have a lot of respect for Harry and the honesty he brings to the game. You need to chill out a tad..

hairs and splitting! (I see you are showing your location as Bournemouth. Are you indeed him? perhaps having a wee look at the Cherries again... go on, you know you want to buy that club! Leave the skates to their fate...

This is a good idea. sort of like a loyalty system for members but not ST holders. You get a membership card and present it everytime you buy a ticket. Then after every five tickets you get one free. Innovative things like this would have no down side as there are currently bucket loads of seats available each game so why not give it a go? At the very least it sends a signal that the club appreciates its fan base and wants to give something back
