  1. I was just happy to see the Mule back in the team. I put a tenner on him scoring at any time. Never mind. Good to see him back. Also it was good to see Oscar Goben on the bench. I saw him up close at the farnborough pre-season and was very impressed. Hopefully he will get a start soon.
  2. yeah, you are right. it was a bit barren. still we made as much noise as we could. Looking at the other three sides of the ground was depressing. Less than half capacity. That will be another £100k lost then. Financially we are stuffed with that level of attendance.
  3. Not a bad game really. We certainly didn't slack off. But we just have problem scoring goals. We had our chances. Less than half full at Saint Mary's. We made enough noise though in the Northam end. Coventry were a bag of sh!te and we could - and should - have stuffed them, except we ain't got the talent up front. Too many scuffed, soft shots. One good thing to come out of my over night stay here in the Premier Inn is that at least I am going to sleep on clean sheets tonight. Must schedule some laundry for sometime before Christmas. Its quite nice really! Up the saints!
  4. Thanks everyone. I've gone with the Premier Inn. Only because Lenny Henry is a legend though!
  5. Agreed, but 99.9% of the time you know when the coal or nuke station is going to be powered down many months in advance and can plan the load base accordingly. Despite tonnes of computing power the Met office still can't accurately predict how strong the wind will blow on any given hill top at anny given time. So the reserve has to be fired up and running alongside the wind. which is totally counter-productive. As for new buildings, the building regulations should make it compulsory to install photovoltaics on new builds... but again, the manufacturing capacity to churn out low cost cells is not established yet. Chicken and egg, and something which could be addressed very easyily by the government setting a date - three years in the future - when the new regulations kick in. As soon as it the industry sees the future demand is enforced by law just sit back and see the investment in capacity pour in!
  6. I don't think of nuclear as clean. But it is the only viable alternative, save for getting the Welsh and Yorkshiremen back down the mines and burning coal. And I am very happy to see engineering investment in wind. But the simple, honest, non-biased fact is that wind power is seen as some kind of saviour to all our power needs and people should not sleep easy in the illusion that wind turbines will be enough to get the country out of the hole we are rapidly approaching. Even the wind industry has acknowledged that there aren't enough 'good quality' (read: consistently windy) locations on mainland Britain to provide even a nominal amount of power. And the government is slowly waking up to this fact too which is why off-shore wind farms are all the rage at the moment. The problem is that off shore turbines are MASSIVELY expensive to build and the VAST infrastructure needed to build even a modest off-shore wind farm is simply not available. We are talking hundreds of oil-rig sized constructions. Not cheap, and not easy. If only is was. I really honestly wish that the wind lobby were right and that it was viable. It isn't and that is why any wind based energy system will only ever be token - in the big scheme of things! Sorry, but that is the God's honest truth.. and now back to the footy
  7. What are you saying? That wind turbines produce power? Shocker! My point is that wind will NEVER be able to provide even a gnat's worth of the total UK energy consumption. It is simply nonsense to think it will. Believe ME! I really do know this subject well. I honestly wish I was wrong but sadly I am not. Wind power is an expensively subsidised con-trick. Sure, wind turbines produce power when the wind is blowing a steady 5 or 6, but there has to be the same amount of energy supply to fall back on when the wind doesn't blow. And it is no good that it is blowing in the Scottish highlands even if it is not blowing in Southampton as to 'pump' the energy the 500 miles to the South would require massive voltages due to the staggeringly high dissipation along the way. Only massive power plants - like coal or nuclear - can produce enough power to cover this dissipation cost. I could go on for ever on this subject but i need to get on a train to Southampton.... Besides, a much better way to power a footy club is to have solar panels (photovoltaic) on the flat roofs of the stadium. A lot of space which on a sunny day would really churn out the mega watts. (well ok, perhaps not mega- but certainly a lot)
  8. Yeah, but the French are sensible. Unfortunately there are still people in Blighty, usually on the left politically, who seem to think that all we have to do is shove a few windmills on a few hills and hey presto our carbon emissions are reduced and the lights stay on. An utter load of b0ll0x. The annual UK energy consumption grows at a steady 5% - this figure from the DTI. Even if a windmill was built every day the additional amount of power that would be produced - optimum that is, when the wind actual blows at 5 or 6 on the beaufort scale - would be still no where near to cover the increase in annual consumption, let alone eat into the existing power consumption. Wind is a pipe dream, and a political cuddly toy - it makes the d!ck heads in Westminster seam as though they are 'in touch'. Rubbish, we need to sort our energy base out in a mature, adult way looking at hard facts and stop this wind nonsense. Rant over!
  9. Wnid power is a myth. It is heavily subsidised thorugh the Renewable Obligations Contract (ROC) and if that was taken away then it would not be economically feasible to build windmills. I'm all for clean, green non-russian-mafia-based energy but wind ain't the solution. Nuclear is the only way to go. F@ck the CND brigade. I want my lights to stay on.
  10. Lowe's biggest mistake? Err..... thinking that he would be welcome back at the club the second time around. If he thinks he is some kind of saviour he should f@ck off and see a shrink. Or just f@ck off and never darken our football club's doorstep again.
  11. Right. Using Man City as a comparison – I haven’t been to their ground but it should be a fair comparison: 436,000 Watts is the ‘running rate’. If all bulbs are burning for one hour then they would consume 436 Kilowatt Hours. Business ‘lecy rates are higher than households pay. But using households figure, I pay about 22p per Kwh. So to run the lights for one hour = 436 * .22p = £95.92 The lights will be burning from (at least) 6pm until (at least) 10pm which is 4 hours. So I reckon, back of the envelope and only using household prices, that it costs about £400 per night game.
  12. just seen the echo interview with JP. He sounds a tad p!ssed off doesn't he? I reckon Lowe-life had a pop at him after the swansea game.
  13. no. I'm a bloke. But I've lived in Brighton for long enough now to do a half decent gay impression if that's your thing.
  14. you're on! But only if yer missus wakes me up in the morning with a full English and a pot of tea
  15. B0ll0x. The attendance figure is the aggregate of all the turnstile counters. Actual people through the gates. STs are not counted whether they go or not.
  16. I wouldn't be surprised if it is less than 10,000. But it will certainly be at least 1 as I am going..
  17. Thanks, I just tried to book and they are full. I guess it is the Hilton then at £105. Ah well, I'll let my accountant know this one is a business trip..
  18. Absolutely. Well said. Jaan if you or any of the lads read these forums please understand our frustration/anger is with the t055ers in the board room and not with you.
  19. I wasn't going to go to tonight's game as it is a **** of a two hour trip from Brighton but given the circumstances I think our Boys need as mush support as they can get. I'll need to stay over in the Mother Country (so to speak) so does anyone know a good cheap hotel with internet in the rooms? (sorry for posting on the main board but I need to find out soon before I leave) cheers
  20. Seeing as we are all feeling gloomy about the future of our club and that the economy is going off a cliff..... this should cheer you up. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/7691667.stm Ahhh! Sweeeeeeet!
  21. Stern will NOT be elligible to play for Bristol against us. That is standard in a loan contract between clubs in the same league - and for that matter in cup games too.
  22. 1 point. honestly can't see us getting any more. go on Saints, prove me wrong please
  23. Stern was put out on loan because we could not afford his weekly wages. Let's suppose he is on £10,000 per week. Quite possibly. There is a home game every other week (on average). The average adult will pay £24 for a ticket and £6 on beer/pies/program etc. So simple maths: (£10,000 / £30) * 2 = 666 (the multiply by two is to factor in that a home game every other week) So my point is that if only and additional 666 adult, non-season ticket holders, now decide not to bother going to the home games because stern has gone then the net financial saving of giving him to Bristol is precisely zero. Well done Lowe. Another well thought out loan deal to save us money. Does Lowe ever bother to look at the income situation alongside the expenses and determine that there might just be a correlation? Pathetic.
  24. Big Sam on the south coast? what ever next...
  25. Oh My God! A double wammy of good news this morning! Not only did I forget the clocks went back and got an extra hour of kip but i turn the tele on and Harry has done another judas on Pompey!
