You are right about the majority of people in jail are for minor drug offenses i.e. possession of marijuana...........it is legal in a few states by state law but federally is a felony offence..........but makes the jail population look so large which does seem to please a few of our brit friends who don't know the difference between state and federal prisons in the USA or indeed between Provincial and Federal prisons here in Canada
