  1. Hey ho - page 2000 here we come
  2. Though interestingly not the Echo which has been, for as long as I can remember, quite confrontational and definitely not happy-clappy about Saints.
  3. He's not a Pompey fan.....
  4. Did you ever think you'd hear these words being uttered by a Poopey manager - Appleton said: ‘Thorne and Scott would not be able to come here with our financial circumstances, absolutely no chance. http://www.chichester.co.uk/sport/football/pompey-latest/appy-dismisses-loan-returns-for-popular-duo-1-4297410
  5. I read somewhere that he had been training with Everton who had hoped to sign him, so I'm guessing we are offering him first team action rather than the bench.
  6. This is borderline sensible - you are a much better person when not trolling. And I do understand what you mean about the Prem. I nearly gave up my season ticket the year befopre we were relegated because I got so hacked off with Sky ruining my life for the armchair viewer and I did enjoy the CCC and League One. And the Prem is a bit soulless - we are only a bit part in a game owned by, managed by and played by foreigners (and mostly watched by them, too), but that is an age thing. But for now I will savour the wins and any success we have. And, for what it's worth I don't particularly wish the Skates out of existence - I'd miss this thread for a start, but I do want to see them get some retribution for their wanton disregard for other people's money - and tbf, they are getting close to getting it at last. I spent the first twenty years as a Saints fan barely registering Pompey - I thought of them as on a par with Bournemouth, and it was only moving east that I realised how much you hated us. With apologies to any Scots reading this, I compare the Saints/Pompey thing to England and Scotland's rivalry - basically we just are bigger than you - numerically, financially, geographically, you name it, and most of the time we just don't even think about you (you might call it a sort of arrogance), whilst you revel in being plucky underdogs (bestest fans et etc) and hate us with a festering passion, waiting for the day when you get one up on us. And like the Scots in the 70's you did for a short time, but it is never sustainable and inevitably ends in tears. Like them, you live for the derbies and will rabbit on about 4-1 forever, whilst for us it's truly not that big a deal. The rivalry is fun, but for us, unlike yourselves I suspect, it's never been a defining thing. I think the trust have given it a go, but they just don't have the cash, and you have quite a few more years of misery ahead, I'm afraid, and I'm afraid you are going to give us a few more laughs along the way. But good luck to them if they can pull it off.
  7. I particularly liked this quote from their new saviour - nothing like a potless consortium to keep us amused. Kerr says: “We have been involved with this Portsmouth deal for around four months now. I am helping Portco to raise the funding required for the purchase.”
  8. is anybody keeping count of how many loanees Appy is churning over - I thought there was a limit to the number a club could have in a season (or are Pompey exempt on some algebraic technicality, ie (N= number that turned up on Southsea Common/ U=unpaid debt) X (B= Bestest turning up in League One/ A=admins) squared
  9. Can anyone remember when we last had an attendance of 11767 or less?
  10. There is a god
  11. Talking to a Brighton fan this morning - she said 'Well done for going up,'' through slightly gritted teeth and I wished her monkey-faced manager and his team well, too. Then she said, I feel sorry for the Pompey fans though....' A fifteen minute rant through all the debt, corruption, imcompetence and tax dodging and she departed a knowledgeable and convinced convert. A missionary's work is never done.
  12. I had a quick look on there - the average thread is about 20 posts long from the same handful of semi-literate inbreds, who then get bored and start a near identical thread, that lasts another 20 or so incomprehensible posts and so they go on. It's like sneaking a look through the asylum window.
  13. Not according to Shirley
  14. You are absolutely right - it is about survival, nothing more. And their inability to see that as they pursue being 'competitive' is what makes it such good comedy. Watching their youngsters getting turned over week after week would move from funny to uncomfortable to embarrasing and sad quite quickly. Watching a bunch of overpaid underperformers doing the same (as we have watched for the last 3 years) is undeniably funny - it's the same sort of cringeworthy delusion of grandeur that is the basis for much British humour - think Fawlty, Hyacynth Bucket, Harold Steptoe, Hancock etc etc. And until they collectively get the stupidity of outbidding their immediate rivals, even if only for a month at a time, as the club goes down the Swannee around them we will continue to laugh at them.
  15. I fundamentally don't disagree with you - football would be a better place if club's were fan-owned and local. And not many on here mock the efforts or the concept PST are involved with. BUT we can all see the big black hole in their finances, & that and the fact that you all seem to ignore it in your enthusiasm for being 'competitive' are what we mock.
  16. Why aren't I on that list? This sort of discrimination is enough to make me want to go and join an exclusive little site where everyone agrees and hates everyone without webbed fingers and toes.
  17. Bit surprised more wasn't made of this little gem - the DCFSBs live up to their name yet again. http://www.chichester.co.uk/sport/football/pompey-latest/appy-players-are-staying-until-january-1-4217723 Michael Appleton has revealed Pompey’s players cannot move to another club until January. The Blues’ current squad will not be allowed to sign for another team before the start of 2013, despite most of them being on one-month deals. And Appleton assured supporters the finance is in place to keep together the players currently at Fratton Park, regardless of whether a takeover of the club is completed in the coming days. The Pompey players’ current deals run until September 6 – and Football League regulations state only players unattached on the final day of the window can be signed in a closed period. Appleton said: ‘We’re in control of the situation. ‘They can’t leave the club until the contract finishes – which is the second week of September. ‘If they leave they can’t sign for another club until January, so it’s in their best interests to stay. ‘Even if they don’t want to stay beyond January they can earn themselves a contract by playing and playing well. ‘It was a difficult situation we were put in, but we knew what we were doing and we weren’t stupid. ‘We weren’t going in with our eyes closed. ‘It works for both parties. If they aren’t comfortable with the situation in January we can reassess it then. ‘It’s in everyone’s best interests to re-sign.’
  18. If you want delusion, look at the league table from yesterday's official Skate site - like the -10, they won't accept the two defeats and bottom 4 placing until their appeal has been heard. http://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/LatestNews/news/Appy-We-Won-t-Change-3657.aspx
  19. Where did you hear that?
  20. That's why he was made for your club. Seamless.
  21. http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/pompey-past/pompey-set-to-complete-double-swoop-1-4208618 I mean, it's only fair that they should be able to outbid a small but well-run club on the up, isnt it, in the interests of being 'competitive? DCFSBs. Meanwhile, Russell has spent the summer trialling with Stevenage and was offered a deal. But he has been holding out for a Pompey move having long been a target of Appleton.
  22. Bompey at home, too. You'd have thought there was enough traffic heading south on a Bank Holiday weekend.
  23. Because in absolute legal terms, someone could yet turn up and pay off CVA 1 in full. Until they officially don't, they can't officially deduct the points.
  24. Things I learnt yesterday - It is all about retaining the ball in the Prem - I thought we were quite good at it but Wigan gave us an exhibition at times. Guly (nor Puncheon last week) is not Prem standard. All of our players, including Adam, Rickie & Morgan, were guilty of giving the ball away cheaply.(At times I felt we could have done with Hammond or Chaplow out there chasing around winning the ball back). If we are going to persist with this 4-5-1/4-3-3 we desperately need two quality wide men with pace, but I think we knew that already. Any lapses/errors will be cruelly punished in this division. On the plus side, Clyne looks a good young player, Rickie looks like he'll cause Prem defences trouble, as does Adam. And with a bit more luck we could have won today - we created decent chances, we looked good in possession but it wasn't our day. And a goal down and chasing the game against any team in any division has never been easy. The last week has been a steep learning curve for players and management alike - the weak links have been exposed and there is still time to act. So, I'm a bit demoralised but keeping the faith.
  25. http://www.journallive.co.uk/newcastle-sports/football-news/2012/08/25/61634-31694267/ I wish these guys would do more than just mutter about it to local journos. And as Rallyboy says, it's our day today & I intend to enjoy it.
