I think his admirers go back a long way to before his return to Saints - even Klopp reportedly gushed that he acted more like an assistant coach than player. I think he’ll act as a very good ‘bridge’ between Still and the players, plus I reckon he’s had very good prior exposure to the style of play Still expects.
-
All this sounds positive - a clear out of the football dept top to bottom was needed and that’s what’s been delivered, with only Lallana (a late addition) remaining. Whether the new team works is obviously yet to be determined, however I don’t think we could have asked for a more decisive number of changes and the Championship is the best place for a new Management team to cut its proverbial teeth. Next job - get the squad sorted. I’m starting to get mildly excited to see where we go from here….roll on pre-season.

Wrexham or Pompey away for first match. You heard it here first. 😉
-
Well that’s the rub - unless SCC get their collective heads sorted any likely re-locations will not happen. In terms of the definition of undesirable, there are environmental concerns for say the cement works being waterside (obviously they will be heavily regulated wherever they reside) and there’s the simple fact that some businesses are getting in the way of urban improvement and need to be re-located (a rather large example of late being the new Bargate development). It’s a complicated process that could take decades if atall.

Didn’t Armstrong score a lot of goals and achieve many assists under a generally different system to the one Still is supposedly to deploy this season? Not sure he’s the right type of player needed now, but better to keep him as backup than sell him to a rival team. A dilemma.
-
To be fair, as far fetched a project as it may be, it would be an undeniable massive improvement for the area around SMS to see the cement works (and other undesirable businesses) moved away with appropriate reparations to the land/waterside. Unfortunately SCC will not have what it takes to make it happen.

He said without those players the squad is not as good, not that all those players were in the team. You need to read posts a little more carefully MLG…you’re slipping. 😉

Dragan Solak interviews with BBC and Daily Echo

As usual, you’re attacking others opinions rather than forming and lucidly expressing your own. And anyway, I don’t read too many on here taking the interview as anything other than at face value. Loosen up a bit - the sun’s shining outside. -

I had my tongue firmly in my cheek there MLT, but I understand you’re the bearer of the stadium expansion torch and therefore will continue to believe it will happen someday. I truly hope it happens in my lifetime, but if it does, I think it’ll be despite the City council rather than them having any kind of drive and/or financial interest in it. -

Exactly. The one I remember most vividly was from many years ago when a monorail system was proposed creating jobs and huge tourism benefits for the City centre, not to mention the environmental benefits from park and rides outside town. Infighting between council factions killed the project off dead before it had room to breath. Utter morons. -
To be fair Brookes would do well in the Championship and it would involve a large chunk of cash coming our way for a decent striker or ACM, so perhaps not out of the realms of possibility especially if the lad can commute to Bournemouth easy.

I’ve nothing against Dragan as such - he’s a sort of Markus-lite in my view. However, Markus made sure he had very good people looking after the club, making difficult sometimes unpopular choices (getting shot of Nigel A for example) to drive us forward. Dragan unfortunately put all his eggs into the SR basket and that has been the essence of the disaster we’ve witnessed. I like that he has the City Council on his side in terms of making the stadium and the immediate area better, however I don’t trust the Council to get anything that might improve the City over the line on-time or indeed at all. Not unless it’s related to the University and student accommodation of course. Cautiously optimistic. -
I expect you’re right, but wouldn’t it be great if we were able to have a decent sub option if Fernandes was not available? Just think of the number of times he ran himself into the ground, got subbed and then we lost the game thanks to a lack of squad depth/quality. It was a very key feature of last seasons shitfest.
-
That’s true as Lumley has gone, although I think Solak is talking about buys that don’t require sales first. It may signal good news in that we don’t need to sell Rambo (unlikely) or conversely bad news that Baz is back as no.1 (likely).

Tyler and Kameldeen were playing on their respective wings and didn’t get their heads up enough to see a pass. Happened countless times. Neither showed enough to demonstrate their abilities, albeit in the EPL. They were not the only culprits mind. It’s not helpful IMO to try to gloss over how shit that team really were at that level. It remains to be seen whether they’re capable in the Championship under a better manager/system.
-
Can’t argue with that, although I think Stewart would be an ok player to hold in reserve.
-
Eh? I’d keep off those mushrooms if I were you pal.
-
He was certainly not all that in the EPL I would agree, but I’m sort of keen to know if the EFL with Still training him might unlock his potential. If only he and Dibling were not so keen on trying to beat 5 players to score a Worldy we might have had a better GD last season.

It’s a component, yes, however there are some posters I’d classify as ‘good’ who have never created a post to best of my knowledge. For the sake of clarity, my starting point for ‘good’ is - ‘understands others have differing views and can argue their own point in a respectful way’. -
There’s a chance there’s few to no rumours is because there’s not a lot of transfer business going on. Why? There’s not a lot of call for players coming from the 2nd worst team in EPL history and even if there is, we’ve over-priced the players that are available. And with no sales (yet), any purchases/loans are delayed. Maybe.
