Everything you have said is PURE conjecture. All that we KNOW for a FACT is we fired a manager three games into a season, after a 4-0 away victory. Any sane observer would question the validity of that action.

I do agree Adrian - I was being ironic which is probably not wise after a Jack Daniels or three... My point, badly put, is that many of us had LOW (no e!) expectations as Saints fans. I count myself among them. I was not 'happy' avoiding relegation, but under WGS I thought we reached the limit of my expectation of us as a club. I couldn't see us ever competing with the big 'ten' - we simply don't have the fanbase. When Lowe said that he wanted Strachan's replacement to be a man who could 'come to places like this and win' (said in the Old Trafford media suite), I knew he was barking. I thought we would be a good mid-Premiership side who might nick a cup along the way. I was happy with that... Scroll forward and now that we have a Chairman with a five year plan, stated and a manager who also stated it was his plan to win the league, I just want them to fecking well get on with it! Despite what Benji says above, our side is worth TEN times any other side in this league. Chamberlain - £10-15m Lallana - £10m In two players our side is worth £25million (without a million pound forward, million pound centre back, Premierhsip keeper and so on) - seriously no matter how good some other sides may appear, none of them can match our spending. We took Rickie and TREBLED his salary!!! In 2010 we were the 10TH highest spending club in England!! On this basis, and given the stated intent, we genuinely are the Chelsea or REAL of this league and anything other than winning it is frankly a bit pants... I don't like it. Because now I sound like a fecking Chelsea fan....

But here we are, your CHAIRMAN and MANAGER stated THEIR aim was to WIN THE LEAGUE. Sorry if that offends you, I was happy beating United every three seasons.

From October, when Pardew had assembled his squad until the end of the season we were the best or second best team in the league on results. Even with the first two months of the season wasted, we were from memory third top scorers and had the second best defence (or other way around). But I agree we still lost and drew games I felt we should have won. That's because we're a League One side...and even the best League One players are inconsistent. When he was fired I was furious because you could predict that all his hard work in building a squad could have been undone. Instead, Adkins turned up and has really done an incredible job. However, those three games when Wilkins was in charge and the first game against MK Dons could easily cost us automatic promotion. If they do, Cortese should apologise to the fans. HE should have fired Pardew in June. That's my big issue. Because I also agree Pardew is an unlikeable bloke who would have jumped at the Newcastle job whenever it was offered.

I'm not defending Pardew for the Plymouth result - it was a poor result. I am pointing out facts. When he was fired we were three points off 6th with a game in hand. Had we won it we would have been ahead of Brighton. And if Lambert was not fit, is that the manager's faullt? Is he actually responsible for player fitness? He would be about the only manager who is... otherwise what the feck are all the coaching staff there to do?

DD, how did this shambles outplay Plymouth and get mugged and then stuff Bristol Rovers 4-0?? And where has been this remarkable turnaround in player fitness or health? These things about pre-season are all in people's minds.

I agree with you. BUT Cortese stated that Pardew went for footballing reasons. Which means he's probably made a rod for his own back with regards to Adkins. More to the point though, does Cortese strike you as the sort of succesful banker who keeps a bloke in work because he likes him?? Me neither. Manager and Chairman stated publicly that the manager's job is to get us promoted (in fact Adkins said it was to win the league). On this basis, I think a firing or resignation is almost certain if we don't go up. But we will, so it doesn't matter...

There's no may about it. Our team is worth ten times our nearest rival. If we don't go up, we should fold the club and start playing tiddlywinks. Seriously.

If we don't go up this season, we will NEVER go up, so it doesn't matter.

So do I, although we would be nine points better off... Not because of Pardew but because we most likely would have won the games that Wilkins lost. That's just common sense... As for the idea he is paying off a gamblng debt by working for Ashley.... Did I tell you about the time I found a double decker bus on the moon...

I am not sure I agree with the above. We were terrible at Charlton and played precious little football of any type! I hope this was a flash in the pan but the thirty minutes of decent football against Swindon was the best I have seen us play since Xmas, since when we have been decidedly average but getting results. What we now need is to start playing football again!!

I agree. But as a man holding a monkey each way at 4/1 us to win the league, I would actually QUITE LIKE them to have a points deduction. I know it's not sporting nor fair, but frankly I need the two grand!!!!
