  1. Rickie Lambert - £1m Lee Barnard - Second Top Scorer in the League Last Season Lallana - enough said Chamberlain - enough said Richardson- Charlton player of the season and believed by many to be the best right back in the league (impartial observers not Saints fans) Butterfield - wouldn't get into 4/5 of the teams in the league? Harding - arguably the best left back in the league? Fonte - easily the best centre half in the league Guly - you're telling me he wouldn't walk into 2/3 of the league's sides? Davis - arguably the best keeper in the league even with a dip in form (Have you seen most keepers we play??!) Now I have no doubt that other teams have good players, but none with the strength and depth we do. We were the TENTH highest spending club in England last year during the summer transfer window... We trebled Rickie's salary and spent over a million pounds on a player which is unheard of in this league. Feck me, are we not supposed to expect some sort of return?? Brighton's success is down to a better manager getting a better return from his players than ours is currently getting from ours. They have some decent players I'm sure, but their budget simply doesn't come close to what we have spent so ergo we have the better players, no question. There is no doubt in my mind that if Poyet managed Saints we would be well clear of where even Brighton are.
  2. I think what we can say is that Poyet is better than either Adkins or Pardew, who, for my money, are as good as each other. On the other hand what Poyet has done with not a great deal of cash and an appalling stadium is outstanding. If there is any consolation it is that I tipped and backed them at 9/1 - check back the posts! This will help offset the massive bet I had on Saints - albeit at 4/1 each way I will get my money back when we come second.
  3. Because we simply haven't improved and moved on. The same players are delivering the same or slightly worse results in many cases... Where is the consistency that our resources should be delivering? This is a major concern for me. We were rubbish against Carlisle. Total bloody rubbish. A team we hammered 4-1 at Wembley. People will trot out the crap that we can't win every week... Well tell that to Gus Poyet on a fraction of our budget.
  4. Does the team who finished 2nd have to go into the play-offs now then? Oh and all this is irrelevant as we are PLANNING to win the league.
  5. Arsenal fans??! Booed a bloke so he broke down in tears (Ebouae? Spelling?) Now a locked in right back and they love him to bits. The truth? Football fan-bases contain hundreds of feckwits because the world contains fecking millions of them. And I seem to be dealing with increasing volumes by the day... COYS! Stuff the dirty northern barstewards tomorrow!!
  6. Thank God there are others still alive who can respect the past. Gratitude seems so fecking thin on the ground these days...
  7. Cobblers. It looked like going up when from October to the end of the season our form had us finishing second. I do think people have forgotten where we were when Pardew took over. As a brief reminder. NOFECKINGWHERE...
  8. No it's not. It just takes cash, that's what I'm saying. Carroll would have gone for the same money in July don't you think? Would he have been less at the end of the season? Torres might because he would have been closer to the end of his contract. What our Chairman is saying is we were quoted silly prices because poeple assumed we had ten million from AOC. They will assume exactly the same in July, sadly...
  9. Always - sadly. Player power gone mad. Not even if THEY want to sign for you, if their agent wants them to...
  10. Torres maybe... Caroll I agree they were stuffed and given a ricidulous price which they paid (reminds me of Steve Bull that lad). You're right we were probably quoted silly money but my point was it's not that players won't shift in January. They will if you want them to it's just a case of who you want and how much you're willing to pay...
  11. No DD, it proves that anyone is for sale if you want them, any time.
  12. For: made me a Southampton fan. Gave me 20 years supporting a brilliant football club winning beyond its merit, gave me Kevin Keegan, gave me SECOND behind Liverpool (today's equaivalent of winning the Champion's League), gave me the best footballing memories of my life. Against: He's a Maccam with a big gob. Some fecking argument that. What a bunch of k u nts... And I use that word advisedly. Pathetic. The sort of people who appreciate nothing and I wouldn't cross the road to pi ss on if they were on fire.
  13. The thing that impressed me about Pardew was his ability to spot our weaknesses and then rectify them. I haven't yet seen Adkins do the same, but he hasn't really had the chance either, granted. As above, it's too early to judge his two signings at our club but I'd like to see Forte and the other lad with the bad scrabble hand name deliver for him for all our benefit. I'm not sure who was writing Antonio off or who thought he was Pele. But probably the numpties who roam around this place. I hope you're not including me among them...
  14. This time, more than any other time, this time. We're gonna find a way, find a way to get away...
  15. Proof that money talks. That's all that matters.
  16. Torres, Suarez and Carrol would say otherwise...
  17. I think you're mental but your point about Adkins buys is one that isn't lost on me. It's early days but I would like to see some real delivery from his two new players to reassure me he's the right man to build our Championship team... Whatever you say about Pardew, his judgement in the market has been proven very very good.
  18. I could count on one finger the number of saves he had to make to be fair...
  19. Yawn... might as well ban the internet then. Authority knows best. And no doubt everyone else on this thread who questions Davis' form was actually intending to stone him tomorrow... rolly eyes emoticon... followed by winky thing to indicate that I'm thoroughly bored of the debate and people not bothering to enter it other than to state that they support the team. Funny, in 35 years I've just been going along for the hot dog and warm beer...
  20. Who is Kevin Davies exactly??
  21. With all due respect that is a totally ridiculous argument. By your logic, Ali Dia would be in the team and today we would be playing Woking Town... Reserves! I don't know anyone who hates David and does not support him when he is in the team. I have never heard him bood or jeered, for example. Equally, this is a FOOTBALL FORUM for discussing our team and who is playing well and who is playing badly. Davis is out of form - or certainly not in the same form as last season. He has appeard more hesitant and been guilty of a few poor decisions. So why should that not form part of our assessment of his performances? Or should we turn a blind eye? If we are genuinely serious about promotion, every player should be scrutisined and assessed and asked to improve. Not much to ask is it? And isn't the reason we have 22 players - competition? Not much of a competition if any player can have a mare and feel comfortable not worrying about his position...
  22. This is a good interview but you don't give interviews without an intent. It no more shows the future than staring into the bottom of my tea cup. If the club was up for sale, the last place you would read about it is the Daily Telegraph... I have no reason to doubt Cortese, but only lemmings follow without question and only zealots believe everything their messiah tells them. It's a good positive interview, but like his manager, let's judge him on results not on what he says.
  23. In my experience most Italians aren't petty. Most petty people work in Health and Safety and are invariably from Nuneaton, Lincoln or Solihull or some other hell-hole and are only in Health and Safety because they are failed Traiffic Wardens... Italians are flamboyant, womanising, lacking attention to detail and often fail at critical moments - for evidence see Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Maserati, etc. But enough of this rampant xenophobia, otherwise I feel a slot on Top Gear in the offing...
