I am not moaning you numpty, quite the reverse!!! I am sick of people moaning about Seaborne being the cause of our defensive malaise. He couldn't be faulted for any of the goals we conceded, but apprently if he wasn't playing and Paulo Maldini/John Terry/Sol Campbell had been in there instead, Fonte wouldn't have slipped and the linesman would have given a free kick... Bloody bonkers! And yes lovely thanks.

People have long talked about Wenger/Arsenal being a good place for youth to go. Why? Doesn't Fergie actually do a better job by miles? Is Ramsay improving? Has Walcott got any better than when he played for us?
-
What about Cork? He played there for us before and it would allow Morgan to play in the team.
-
You don't think we're going to pass them on thr way up/down...

Never mind Merson, I am upset. I know these are highly paid lads, but you should never chuck in kids when you're being thumped. That is poor management of any type - football, business, etc. He even brought senior players off to 'protect them'. What??! I have always been a fan of Wenger, but he has to go now. He's now just trying to prove points and not manage a football club. Mind you, why the feck would you go there and not Old Trafford given a choice.. "Eh Lad, come with me and let's have a loook around urgh trophy room eh? Did you see the cabinet at Arsenal..."

Leicester 3 - Saints 2 Post Match Fred
Legod Third Coming replied to SuperMikey's topic in The Saints
Four league managers are asking for your number. They are the four who couldn't despite all the evidence beat us... One league manager is grateful that he couldn't achieve your advice either. Goal 1 - slip by right back, poor marking. Goal 2 - thumped in from centre of pitch, no tracking back Goal 3 - FOUL. Now, I happen to agree with you that a new CB wouldn't hurt. But after winning eleven straight games and losing one, it's a bit fecking rich even for you to assert we are easy to beat... -
I don't think there is any doubt Fontaine failed a medial becuase of his ankle is there?? Even the BBC practically said as much 'the deal is off. Fontaine has had two previous operations on an ankle...'
-
I don't know. Fonte seems like a bargain now at the price. If Mills goes for £5m! If we could pick one up for £2m who could walk into the team, I'm sure we would.
-
Obviously I have a soft spot for Mills as an ex Saint, but it puts into perspective the kind of money we might have to spend to get what is perceived to be better than what we have. I am all for spending to improve a team. All for it. But is a CB a game changer worth spending £6m or £7m on in this league?? Not a question I could answer... If we couldn't score goals and that sort of money bought you a proven scorer, different story I think.
-
The slip was ok but if you watch the goal unfold, he lets his man go. I'm not faulting the guy, it's just that it seems to me wrong to say drop Seaborne, buy 'xx' and these goals will stop. If and when people make mistakes, we will concede goals, whoever they are.

Years ago on this forum I said he was like a young Steve Gerrard and was laughed at... Probably rightly, because he has so much more natural skill than Stevie G. I think he's the best midfielder for skill I've seen bar possibly the fat bloke.
-
Agreed, but our best defender was at fault for the first goal, so it's not just about buying a new defender. It's about being awake and concentrating the whole game. So a bit of work with the defence will probably put right what was wrong yesterday. Although I wouldn't object to a new decent central defender coming in. But it wasn't like ( as some suggested) you could just point the finger at one defender yesterday and say without him the result would have been different...

I am on holiday, is that allowed in your world?
-
I disagree. Why change a winning team change to face another team?? That say's that you fear them more then they should fear you doesn't it?
-
Defending for 1st and 2nd goal was amateurish. Failure to get tight, failure to stay goal side. You don't need to buy Paulo Maldini to get that right. You can put it right on the training ground with a bloody well aimed kick up someone's arse! Oh and as for the third goal, feck me...

I tend to agree with this. It's never good to lose, but sometimes it's good to receive a wake up call that can kill complacency stone dead. -
Adam Le Fondre - Get him on the bus FFS

It's quite hard for me to see why we need attackers... Defenders after today I would accept. But let's be honest, do we look like a team short on goals, from anywhere??!!! -

Is it any wonder we are a better side when Morgan is in it? I would like to see him start every game. He's too bloody good to be on the bench. -
I could not agree more. If you can find me a player better than those we have, I am all ears. But he must be able to walk into the first team otherwise you are buying WORSE than we already have. And if we need 'cover', that's why we have players like Martin - who as far as I can see is alright. Still I well remember people thinking Lallana wasn't up to much... You will always pick up injuries and suspensions but we have a cracking first team, for the first time since 1984-odd. We have some good players who cannot get a kick and we still have a youth academy that produced...who was it now... er oh that's right, the World's best left back, the fastest player in the Premiership and possibly another star in Oxo... While I think we might have another decent CB in, if Seaborne and Martin are ever going to be as good as Fonte one thing they have to do is play football...

A very well reasoned argument. Apart from, in my view, the situation that happens when you attempt to stabilise and that is, that often you actually go backwards. Why? Because while you're busy stabilising, the clubs around you are investing to improve. Some will fail and some will succeed and the latter obviously improve past you. I'm not sure there is such a thing as a 'level - this mythical thing that club chairmen seem to pursue. But what there is, without doubt, is better. So if you are forever focused on being better, whatever that takes, you won't go far wrong. And that doesn't have to mean always spending more, but it does require asking the question - will this decision improve my football club...

I like Warnock - although it's not popular to say so. He talks a lot of ******** mind. And all he wants to do is say he got the best deal for QPR. Whether he did time will tell. As it will if and when Joey Barton starts picking up red cards...
-
You don't need hundreds of transfers unless of course you have a dodgy agreement with an agent whereby you're taking a cut of the deal but we've never had a manager who would do that have we....
-
Maybe. Fonte Jhaidi Martin Seaborne Cork can play there comfortably, has done for England U21. Fox is 6" can he play there? It's not exactly threadbare but I agree if we could get a good one who's better than what we have...
-
I'm not saying everything Cortese does is perfect, far from it. But our buying policy since he's arrived has been superb. We must be one of the better clubs in the whole league in this regard.
-
Truth is we don't know who we missed out on - if anyone. Ever been to an auction? With a budget? And bought nothing? Cos that's how buying something that anyone else can buy works. I'm not sure after four games, four wins and a +7 goal difference, and best winning run in the club's history, exactly what is is we're missing??
