  1. Likelihood of us being able to attract him here?

Newcastle were linked with him in January. So why not us?

Montpellier have agreed to release him at the end if the season.

It s the type of player we should be looking for and i can definately see him replacing if he goes at the end of the season

  2. I'd expect us to bring players In from abroad. Could do with a player who can play anywhere in the "3", Possibly 2.

Some "realistic" suggestions...(admittedly some more realistic than others)

    Drmic

    Vela

    Immobile

    Aduriz

    Cabella

    Lasogga

    Lacazette

    Aubameyang

    Firmino

    Griezmann

    Berardi

    Adrian Ramos

Ok some maybe pretty likely to be looking at bigger clubs than ourselves but would think one or two of these are gettable..

All comes down to the ambition of the chairman.

Lacazette and Cabella would be perfect.

  3. Would puncheon have got in the team ahead of Lallana, Rodriguez and Lambert?

I don t think so. Ramirez has suffered because of the other players success.

Put Ramirez in the palace team full of mediocrity and you would probably be saying the same thing about Ramirez that it was a mistake to let him go.

    Pointless thread.

  4. His comments are good. Echoes the thoughts of all the sensible fans that recognise MP has transformed the team.

End of the day, if the new regime let him go then it will have been a disasterous start, regardless of any seemingly encouraging off field openness, away ticket offers and upheld complaints re Newcastle tickets.

Am i the only one who doesn t care about new our new found openeness, return to red and white stripes more transparency etc...

Its a résult driven business and ultimatly if the board fails with the on field issues, keeping pochettino and our best Players.

Then we will all regret Cortese going because he didn t let anything come out of the club except for our high ambitions which to was an integral part of what has been built here. All the Players and staff believed in it.

Now we as fans and Players don t really know what s going to transpire as we don t know the club s ambitions.

  5. A lot of my French colleagues rave about David Ospina at Nice, don't know much about him myself, but they cant understand how he isn't at a bigger European club.

    Colombian international, 25

He s had a very very good season at Nice. Very good at shot stopping and good in the air. Physical impact on corners in Ligue 1 isn t as strong as the premier ligue so its difficult to judge if he Will be good in the air in the premier ligue.

Stéphane ruffier of Saint Etienne would also be good.

  6. A good point, but equally, not exactly the type of sporting director who will promote a self sustainable club. Actually doing that while making progress will require some genuine nous.

Yes of course, i'm not saying they are trying to get somebody like Leonardo. But i reckon they want someone with good contacts in the game working in close company hand in hand with Pochettino, who might be able to unearth a gem from abroad, or be able to promote the ambition of the club.

We are not talking about overspending here, but spending within our means. We did spend 60m over the last 2 summers, but only incurred a 7m loss our first season back in the premier league. Still think we will be able to keep our players here and with the increase of the tv money this season, buy 1 or 2 players with genuine quality that will be able to see us get near the next level.

Call me an optimist but I am not pessimistic about our future like most are on here, the way the players and staff talk about the club at the moment you can see they all want to stay together and work at it for the next few seasons. To do that we still need to strengthen our squad whilst conitinuing to promote young players from the Academy and I think the board will do just that this summer.

  7. Talk of a sporting director raises a few questions in my mind.

What does a sporting director do that will improve things ? And whose role will that be taking over or encroaching on ?

Where will this fit in with Les Reed's role ?

A director of football to be involved in scouting, transfers etc I can understand, but the sporting director role is a little more ambiguous, and perhaps leans towards SCW territory.

A famous sporting director can attract players to the club.

Example PSG had a sporting director in the name of Leonardo (former PSG and Milan midfielder very well known in France, Italy and Brazil) and he was the one along with the quatari money who was able to attract the players PSG now have today (ibrahimovic, thiago silva, pastore, Lucas, Lavezzi, verrati...)

  8. A poll is currently up in the équipe website (most famous sport news paper in France) to see who should have been called up in the french squad following the withdrawal of Mavuba.

Go to the bottom of the article and vote for Morgan.

He is currently second. Idéal opportunity for getting more média attention on him. Once the poll is over they will write an article on the résult of the poll. Let s get the Morgan for France movement up and running!

  9. Mavuba pulled out of the squad today due to injury.

Guess who Deschamps called up as a remplacement?

Guilavogui of Saint Etienne who has hardly played this season and came back to Saint Etienne after being unable to get a game at Sevilla. Just shows how far down Morgan is in the pecking order. I despair!

  10. Watching the Liverpool game yesterday, to me the only difference between us and Liverpool is the mouvement of their front line and their finishing.

With better finishing we should have gone into the break leading 2-1 yesterday and we seemed to have lose our way in the second half because of a lack of mouvement and pace. Yes J rod is quite quick but he was too often isolated up front and we were lacking options. Now I don t want to to slate Lambert because he has played a major part in our rise but he never stretches the opposition defenders and our attack seemed quite predictable at times .

Another thing I noticed is that when we attack we don t seems to be doing it with enough players in or around the box.

Schenerdelin does make late runs sometimes but he needs to put his shooting boots on. Davis and cork on the hand do not provide enough options offensively.

We had more possession yesterday than Liverpool yet when they had the ball they made the most of it.

So what needs to be done in the summer? Buy a striker that can provide pace mouvement and finishing.

Tell Lallana, jay rod and the rest of the midfield to work on their finishing (not sure that can be taught, you either know how to finish or you don't)

  11. Sissoko being on the list blows out the comments about needing to play for a 'Big 4' club out of the water.

It seems to me Deschamps has his favourites and Morgan isn't one of them, end of

Personally I'm delighted, less games, more recovery time and less likely to be seen as a top buy for money bags clubs like PSG

Sissoko got initially noticed when he Played for Toulouse in France.

So je is still bein followed at Newcastle.

  12. Is not even in the pre list France send to the players before naming their squad, so he isn t even in the initial pool of 40 players being considered.

Can see him moving back to France in the summer as it's the only way he will be noticed. If he wants to be noticed abroad he needs to play for a big. Sadly this is the Deschamps mentality.
