  1. La Liga is a good league. He was the top scoring midfielder in it last season, and joint 9th top scorer overall. He is not old. If he is available for £1.7 (around €2 million) he is not at all expensive. It would be fair to conclude that even if he underperformed and ended up as a squad player for the likes of Swans or Saints that he would be regarded good value.
  2. Is this a joke? Better first touch? From the Northam it looks to me like De Ridder needs about 65 opportunities to produce either a good first touch or a good delivery. FWIW I'd imagine Guly as a decent squad player in the Prem. De Ridder was barely a decent option in the Championship.
  3. Rodwell I hope.. A few rumours which are JUST believable.. I'd be amazed but then I didn't expect successive promotions!
  4. Yeah, I'd rather my club struggled at the bottom of the league in a relegation scrap than snapped up a proven top flight striker like Defoe. It's hardly a shock to see a premier league striker move clubs for a quick pay packet. And he was class at Pompey, same as WHU and Spurs. If strikers aren't a bit greedy and selfish they don't tend to score very often.
  5. Fair do's. Reading keep being linked with players who don't seem to be signing anyway, I'd be surprised if Defoe goes there. Whoever picks him up will have done exceptionally well. God I hope our lads can score a few in the prem, I'm getting nervous already!
  6. I think some have bought into 'The Southampton Way' to the extent they're dismissing proven prem strikers like Defoe and Yakubu as short term options. That is absolutely mental I'm afraid. Lambert and Rodriguez haven't kicked a ball in anger in the top flight, let alone hit the net.
  7. Went to Colchester, Swindon, Walsall and Hull. Hull was truly epicly bad.
  8. And one released from McDonald's in Havant...
  9. Martin Allen's a c**k and is trying to boost interest as he knows he's not a good enough manager to take Gills places meaning their good players will leave. I don't know but I'd imagine a couple of million would get us talking to this guy. Know nothing about him whatsoever so nothing to add on his ability I'm afraid.
  10. From Bocanegra to Damiao. I love this forum.
  11. For a player like this to have notched up over 100 apps for USA speaks volumes about the quality of their football over the past decade. Honestly could barely stand watching him at Fulham and was almost embarrassed for him on numerous occasions. So, on that note, I'm out.
  12. Agree again. I think as it stands we'd be foolish to dump Hammond. If called upon he'll do a job. Also we have no guarantee Cork, Morgan, Davis can all step up to the plate. For workrate alone I'd like Deano on the bench for the season given the only CM we've signed has been in Scotland for a fair while, effectively playing what I genuinely believe to be high League 1/low champ level. Definitely worth his contract for the first year back in the prem.
  13. Agreed. Hammond gets as much stick on this forum as Guly. He'll stay as a prem bench player I'd imagine, especially the way he's held his own in the Championship when called upon last year.
  14. This is the premiership Turkish. I don't know if you've forgotten the protocol.. Let me enlighten you: 1) excess seats taken by happy clappy muppets who forgot who saints were until they returned to the prem 2) don't try to intimidate Scholes with said foam hands, let his Manure team **** us whilst applauding their away support and helping them win the league(said excess seat holders in saints end will be spaffing by this point cos they looovvvee ManUre winning things really) 3) spend the next 27 years(roughly)being essentially subservient to so called 'big teams' while selling anyone who can kick a ball straight for a shat load of cash which won't help when by the end of said 27 years we end up in administration. Did I miss anything? Ps I studied cynicism at uni and got a first. I waved my foam hand at graduation.
  15. Surely.. 'Two Steven Davis's, there's only two Steven Davis's'
  16. To make my day in the Northam enjoyable this song would need to be preceded by waving of large foam hands. It would then be followed by a mexican wave. Can we make this happen?
  17. I'm in the same boat. I might set up another cellone account and noone will know who the real cellone is. I'll make you more interesting, I promise.
  18. Turkish trying to get back on topic......?
  19. Best thread for ages, can every thread be like this please? It'd make this board a whole lot more entertaining. One thing is for sure, you couldn't f**king make up Matthew Le God, he's comedy gold.
  20. Exactly. Just had a debate with a work mate along similar lines. We're all getting excited about SFC and rightly so, exciting times. But lets not confuse that with being big enough to hold onto very talented youngsters if the likes of Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal are interested.
  21. Gotta be out soon, presume I'm not the only one with plans to make for August and September!
  22. Vitesse rejected 1.6mill (2million Euros) from Fulham so looks like being in the region of £2mill. Judging by the articles about this you'd have to think we're on the brink of confirming this guy. Only just missed out on Dutch squad. Promising.
  23. Long term in mind and Abramovic don't go hand in hand though do they? AVB knew that when he took over and still knew that when he got sacked. His results were truly woeful and in football, as in life, you cannot disregard quality in the present for hypothetical goals in the future. It will bite you on the behind.
  24. Don't sit on the fence mate, tell us what you really think
