Would be interested to know what other Saints fans thought of McGoldrick in particular? I never warmed to him, but he scored a few goals in a poor team when we were relegated from the Championship.

Whether Dan was misbehaving or not. The job of the "Bouncer" is security, and should have removed him without assaulting him. Unfortunately bouncers tend to be looking for any excuse to throw their weight around.
