Looks as if Agent Connolly may have unfinished business at fatpipes: seems no-one there has spotted any pattern in all of this http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/barker-connolly-wanted-to-go-but-he-may-be-back-1-5905465 "Richie Barker has reiterated it was David Connolly’s decision to leave Pompey on loan. But the Blues boss has not ruled out the veteran striker having a Fratton future upon his summer return from Oxford. Connolly’s surprise departure for the U’s on deadline day of the January transfer window drew strong criticism from some Pompey supporters. Since then he has netted three times in six games – most recently in the weekend 1-1 draw at Morecambe. The 36-year-old’s Fratton Park stay had soured in the build-up to his exit, with niggling injuries restricting his availability, while he was without a league goal since August. In addition, following Barker’s arrival, Connolly’s coaching role was marginalised. Then came the Oxford switch, where the former Republic of Ireland international has started just two of Oxford’s matches so far, without completing 90 minutes in either. Nonetheless, he has scored three times, reflecting the impressive goal-scoring credentials he often showed at the Blues."

Where is the money coming from? Are you serious? Their modus operandi is (1) spend other people's money (2) don't pay it back (3) repeat ad inf.

At the risk of being pedantic, 'fin de siècle' has other meanings beside 'turn of the century', and sue may have been making a cultural reference to '... the closing and onset of an era, as the end of the 19th century was felt to be a period of degeneration, but at the same time a period of hope for a new beginning' - wikipedia says so anyway* **however** - and its a big **however** - I'll be b*ggered if I can see how #p!sspoorportsmouth and their #tinpot setup can possibly presage any 'period of hope for a new beginning' although I am right alongside the 'degeneration' *http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fin_de_siècle Fin de siècle (French pronunciation: [fɛ̃ də sjɛkl]) is French for end of the century. The term typically encompasses not only the meaning of the similar English idiom turn of the century, but also both the closing and onset of an era, as the end of the 19th century was felt to be a period of degeneration, but at the same time a period of hope for a new beginning.[1] The "spirit" of fin de siècle often refers to the cultural hallmarks that were recognized as prominent in the 1880s and 1890s, including boredom, cynicism, pessimism, and a widespread belief that civilization leads to decadence.[2] The term "fin de siècle" is commonly applied to French art and artists as the traits of the culture first appeared there, but the movement affected many European countries.[3] The term becomes applicable to the sentiments and traits associated with the culture as opposed to focusing solely on the movement’s initial recognition in France. The ideas and concerns developed by fin de siècle artists provided the impetus for movements like symbolism and modernism.[4] The themes of fin de siècle political culture were very controversial and have been cited as a major influence on fascism.[5][6] The major political theme of the era was that of revolt against materialism, rationalism, positivism, bourgeois society and liberal democracy.[5] The fin-de-siècle generation supported emotionalism, irrationalism, subjectivism and vitalism,[6] while the mindset of the age saw civilization as being in a crisis that required a massive and total solution.[5] Fin de siècle culture has been perceived to have influenced 20th century culture, such as Bohemian counterculture having similarities to punk counterculture in that both celebrate a romantic and willful sense of decay and rejection of social order.[7]

Might be interesting to profile the intellectual calibre of contributors to this thread some time

Well, this is indeed the thread to end all threads

Somewhat reminiscent of the 'Alas Smith & Jones' dialogues, though lacking their talent, wit and originality. Does have a sense of childish (I didn't say 'child-like') naivety though: a bit like two toddlers whining to mum about how 'a big boy pushed us over and ran away'
-
It does look as if their 'plan' to spend their way straight back into L1 - and worry about balancing the books later - has backfired massively. I don't think theres a plan B.
-
Yep. Looks as though we can now add 'thriftiest' to the long list of superlatives that don't fit them

Comedy gold: http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/sport/pompey/chairman-issues-backing-to-barker-1-5896409 "It’s difficult to say it after we’ve lost 5-1, but I think we are seeing progress.’ Considering the optimism that surrounded the club in the summer, the campaign has been one of huge disappointment. Although the bookmakers disagreed, most Pompey fans would have been quite happy with a mid-table placing and a run at the play-offs, even if it ended in another season in League Two. But with a playing budget that puts Pompey at least in the top eight clubs in the division, nobody was contemplating another relegation battle."

Spot the difference. Fair play, those are probably the loneliest hearts of any club band.

Guilty.

Micah Hall @engagePompey 6h @boggenstrovia to restore the capacity and relay pitch requires about £450,000 gift - and it's happened. That's real leadership. Reply Retweet Favorite More Expand Selwyn Boggitt @boggenstrovia 6h @engagePompey But what about the team? Week after week pathetic performances, dud player after dud player.. Something is very wrong.. Surely not? The bestest are an unstoppable force, no?

That was 30 minutes of my life I shan't see again. Funny to see how small time and desperate they are, though

Who'd 'a thunk it? "I think it's all gone to their heads tbh... I was in McInnes company pre season and the man was acting a drunken fool and not as a chairman of this great club should act ..."
