I don't mind chipping in a few quid, when I eventually make a return. -
None of the above are as bad as people saying or writing "brought" when they mean "bought".

If you haven't done so already then use http://maps.live.com/ or http://maps.google.co.uk/ and work out an outdoor route where you know the distance, rather than running until you're bored. Then go running with a watch so you have a goal. Have a few mental markers along the route to compare your progress against along the route each time, so that you keep pushing instead of getting bored / slowing down / giving yourself rests that you wouldn't do on a treadmill. My Mrs bought one of those first things years ago, I scoffed at it at first, but it's surprisingly good at targetting your abs. You get on your knees, grip the bars and roll it forwards as flat to the floor as you can go without collpasing, then haul yourself back again, and repeat. You can get single bar doorway pull up bars, but I've seen enough to stay away from those eg youtube. Ones like the bar in the link are bigger but are removable within seconds and fold away flat.

Depends what sort of size and strength you are now, and what you're aiming to achieve? Being fitter? Leaner? Having better upper body strength? Being able to use that strength for longer? Liking how you look in a fitted top!? If you were seriously considering rowing machines then that suggests you might have enough space for a bench and free weights? That would give you the most options. A chin up bar can be good though if you want something cheaper and that takes up minimal space when not in use. A decent sturdy cantilever one would be like this: http://www.ukfitnesssupplies.co.uk/ProductDetail.asp?ProductID=929 A chin up bar might not help if either (a) you don't already have enough upper body strength to do a single chin-up in the first place or (b) you weigh too much for the chinup bar to support you safely. Presumably from the treadmill exercise mentioned you're not morbidly obese, so you should be ok on (b). If your aim is to make your arms bigger, then a chin up bar is only going to really work for so long until you plateau from doing reps of your own weight, at which point you'll want free weights if you're trying to build more muscle rather than just stay lean.

Well seeing as it looks like Mike + 2 maybes, and I won't be online again to check until this evening, count me out now. -

Yes thanks, I have used MSVS2005, Hyper-V, and VMWare at various times, but more for development servers and test environments and for much smaller business IT infrastructure compared to what you're looking at. How have you been getting on with this since starting the thread? I might have said something sooner however I forgot the techie forum was here until the reshuffle and saw you having a dig at Baj on another thread. I confess I haven't used ESXi yet but everything I've heard and read suggests that would be ideal for you, whereas Hyper-V is just right for us at the moment due to size and licensing. I'm assuming someone's done all the sums and you're confident that you've got enough ram on those 2 boxes for whatever those 12 or so servers are doing? Is the Windows Domain Controller going to be one of those VMs or will that be on a physical box?

'501' bulbs are pretty common as they're also used for other things like boot lights, map lights, sidelights etc. Also known as 'W5W' bulbs. As with any bulb, if you're in doubt then take the old one out first and bring it along to compare, then you know you've got the right fitment, voltage, wattage, colour (you want a normal clear bulb, as the red you see comes from the plastic lenses not from the bulb itself). VW will already be connecting up to your car in order to match the new key, so to charge you more than a few mins extra to clear the airbag fault would be harsh. However did you mention that you suspected that you had been fiddling with fuses and/or you may have caused the warning light to come on yourself? They might justify diagnostic time if they weren't suspecting it to be a "Clear and see if it comes back" case.
-
I was about to ask, but I just noticed the picture is of a mkiv Golf so will assume that's what model you've got. The airbag warning light will come on if the airbag electrics have been interrupted at any time without having disconnected the battery first, so it sounds like you pulled the wrong fuse when you were fiddling. The warning light will stay on until the fault is cleared with compatible diagnostic equipment (5 mins with a £10 vagcom compatible cable from ebay, or the dealer may try and stitch you out of "30 mins diagnostic work" - don't stand for that). This warning light stays on even after everything appears fine again, because the car doesn't know the difference between an intermittent electrical fault which may need fixing, and the owner fiddling with fuses. Get the fault cleared and it's only likely to be a problem if it comes back again. As for the heater / aircon illumination, those three dials are lit by a single '501' bulb behind the middle dial, you can get at this by removing the dial (you have to pull hard), and it's best to have a small piece of rubber tubing which you can use to press the new bulb in place without crushing it. Eg http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/p/162180/1067094.aspx And as for cutting a new key, the quickest and easiest way is to go to the dealer, and I guess you're probably already there, you can get it sorted for about £40 though if you have the right tools (I don't) and/or know someone who does. Assuming that you're getting a new key because one or more keys have been lost by you or by previous owners, then make sure in addition to coding the new key, that the dealer un-matches any previously-saved keys that you no longer have, so that it can no longer be used on your car by someone else.

Agreed. 'Even Santos' shared out Secretary, Treasurer and team selection / player chasing duties between 2-3 people. Do it all yourself and you'll end up begrudging it. Definitely. No suprise that the core of Steve's current team are mostly people that have been mates / team mates for long enough in the past that they would rather turn up than let each other down. Really you've got to train at least once a week though just to weed out those who can't be arsed, and if you're lucky help instil a bit of pride / loyalty / competition for places. You appear to have missed such gems as: Attending league meetings; Also contacting the away team and ref if your home game's been called off; Paying for the ref and the pitch; Working out which players are technically eligible for cup games; Filling out result forms; Sending off club accounts to the FA at the end of the season; Sorting out the kit, footballs and equipment, and then replacing them as they slowly disappear during the season; Sorting out spare shinpads / boots for whichever numpty forgot them this week; All the extra payments and paperwork you get lumbered with when one of your players decides to be mouthy to a ref and get sent off;

I don't believe that. I work in IT and I've met plenty of people without a degree doing well for themselves. A mate of mine left sixth form and got a full-time IT job, did a diploma part-time whilst gaining valuable experience. At the same time I was doing a full-time degree. I'm happy with what I got out of it, but my mate still has the edge on me after getting a few years head start in real industry experience. I can confirm that I have seen people I knew to be locals dressed up around town having 'themed' **** ups, including wearing all the golf gear. I can also confirm however, that when I was student, a high proportion of the students I met did live up to the middle-class, traffic-cone-wielding, strut-around-the-city-like-you-grew-up-there, 'blatantly random' stereotype. Not all though.

A 10 year old ant-infested Golf that's surely been thrashed ragged? I'll get back to you on that... Top left is definitely coolant warning light - it's a warning for both level or temp though. Check your coolant level, also check the colour (it should be a pinkish colour if the correct G12 coolant has been used). Could be coolant sensor, or it could be something serious. Any common factors to when the light has come on? When the engine's cold? When you've been thrashing it? Only round fast corners? Does it come on and stay on until you switch the engine off, or does the light go out again on its own? What temp is the engine temperature guage showing when this happens?
-
I'm not sure it's actually your oil temp light btw, your 'boat' description sounds more like the coolant temparature warning light to me. Kinda like this work of art: |E | ~~o~~ ~~~ Whereas the oil warning light looks like an old watering can with a drip pouring out, and lights up either yellow for oil level warning or red for oil pressure warning. Do you have a picture of the light? Or can you describe where it is on the dash? ie first in top row of lights in centre of cluster / first in bottom row / left hand dial / right hand dial?

This will be why - http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1542461 Have they agreed to do the repair? As it's not sticking in the locked position it shouldn't cost them much, other than time and a bit of solder.
-
Good job you didn't say anything yesterday otherwise I'd have bored you all to tears discussing it. Unfortunately these are common faults on the older mkiv models, usually due to (a) VW cheapskates originally using lower grade window regulator parts and (b) VW cheapskates not using enough solder on the door-lock electronics. How long a warranty have they given you? If you like I can plug my laptop in to run a diagnostic scan which might reveal other issues that you haven't noticed yet, so that you can try and get those sorted whilst still under warranty too.

I'll bring a ball. Akeem if you could too that would be good, for when Mike hoofs one into the road. -

Cheers for looking into it. Seeing as I've 'saved' about £20 so far this year due to postponed games, I don't mind splitting the cost as long as there's enough to make it worth playing and paying. Could just turn up at ten to five and go from there? -See if there's enough of us there to chip in, otherwise make do with what light is left until the floodlights come on anyway? -

Yep. As long as the pitch is safe to run on, it's not gale force wind, and you can see what you're doing, weather shouldn't matter. It's a kickaround ffs, not a day out at the beach! I'm not too fussed whether it's 2pm, 5pm or cancelled, it'd just be preferable to know early enough to plan my day accordingly. -

Surely this is only relevant if many *can* make it later? Seeing as hardly anybody goes anymore at that time is it worth finding out who could make 2pm as an alternative, at least until the evenings start getting lighter again? -

I would. And no, I have not confused this with the Laura Robson thread. -
Anyone fancy starting this up again? Thanks to injuries and then the weather, I haven't played footie for 3 months. And by 'footie', I'm including anything even remotely resembling football, including futile kickarounds.
