A Discussion with Definitely Not Glasgow (Split)

Quite confused by Apprentice Billionaire's ire - correct me if I'm wrong but this is a forum, the definition of which is, "a meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged." Just to let you know Apprentice Billionaire, because someone disagrees with you, it doesn't make them wrong anymore than it makes you right. I'd hazard a guess that you know next to nothing about the recruitment process of high level football management. Guess what? Neither do most of us, which is why we come on here to discuss the potential merits of the names that are being banded about. This is meant to be a place where people look forward to having a discussion and whilst it's fun to have a bit of back and forth, your current modus operandi is frankly off putting and dull. Get a grip, mate and lighten up. -
I just can’t see either Fulham or Palace taking a gamble on Rohl — that feels like agent talk. Glasner’s been linked with a return to Germany, and Silva’s name keeps coming up for bigger roles. Neither club is likely to go for a Championship manager, surely? I want us to get Rohl now, especially if he’s the one the club is targeting. We can’t afford to fall any further behind and it wouldn't surprise me if we'd put all our eggs in Rohl's basket.
-
It’s a lot easier to step down a level when you’ve had time in the role and understand the situation from the inside. When Benitez came in, he did a solid job, Newcastle went down with 37 points, just two from safety. If it weren’t for Sunderland going on an incredible run, they would’ve stayed up. By contrast, we’re sitting on 10 points and have been relegated twice in two years. There’s been a revolving door of managers and a catalogue of poor decisions at board level from managerial appointments to recruitment. Benitez had the benefit of seeing the structure, the squad, and the potential before deciding to stay. Right now, it’s hard to see anyone willingly walking into the unknown here and risking their reputation. That’s why it’ll likely be an unknown foreign coach, or someone like Rohl or Cooper, with Cooper, someone with just enough Premier League experience to take the gamble.

What a miserable season. I actually feel for Juric a bit, yes he made some odd choices but I guess he was trying to see if *anything* worked - we really are so shite.
-
Here’s a theory that could explain why Juric is still in place, even though we all know he’s out of a job (regardless of what Fabrizio Romano is saying). Everyone knows we’ve been circling Rohl and have likely made a decision on him, but we’re waiting until our Premier League status is officially gone. If we sack Juric now and then appoint Rohl in early June, Sheffield Wednesday could argue that we’d been in discussions with his reps in advance and take legal action—similar to what happened with Russell Martin and Swansea—demanding Premier League-level compensation. Could be nonsense, but it does seem plausible.
-
The ultimate Saints move: sack Juric, hand it to Rusk till season’s end, he scrapes a draw and a win, and suddenly - Rohl’s pre-contract is binned, and Rusk gets the job full-time.

Famously client journalism with Adam.

Adam Blackmore weighing in on 'his' take.. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/southampton It's an odd piece really - not quite sure the point of it other than perhaps he knows something and wants to get ahead of the curve.

Maresca must be licking his lips with this one. As will every PL manager under pressure, never before has there been such a banker of 3 points and a good few goals. I'll go for 5-0 (loss, for clarity).
-
It actually would sadden me to see Armstrong go to Leeds after that goal in May. I don't know why but it would just feel wrong.
-
So let me get this straight, if we send out Armstrong on loan and bring in Ings, we'll be replacing Armstrong with Ings, after bringing Armstrong in to replace Ings... Now that would be VERY Saints-y.
-
So, with BBD gone and both Armstrong and Archer linked with moves away today, are we looking at Sulemana and Paul leading the line for the rest of the season? It makes absolutely no sense to sell these players. Sure, they might not be Premier League quality (though I still think Archer could be with a proper run of games), but they'd be invaluable in the Championship next season. Case in point - BBD is already scoring for Sheffield United after looking like a lost boy in the PL. At the start of the window, I admitted I had no idea what the right approach would be, but offloading players who could help us bounce straight back was definitely not on my list. If anything, we should be looking to move on those who clearly won’t be here next season—KWP, Sulemana, Dibling - rather than disrupting players’ lives only to expect them to return next season fully committed. It just feels counterproductive. (I don't want to sell the likes of Dibling but we know he won't be here so...)
-
I'm convinced he won't be here next year and I think his roll was to come in and instil some discipline and fitness into the squad ready for next year. I think there would have been some chat about *IF* you keep the team up then of course crack on next season but very much IF and if not, you can walk away richer with a bit of PL experience. Whether it's Rohl or not, who knows but I heard some chatter that Sheff United offered more money than Wednesday for Shea loan - could that be because the powers that be knew that Rohl would be managing Shea here next season? Who knows and I'm most likely talking shite anyway.
-
Anyone else still keep thinking that at some point we'll go on a bit of a run and pick up 6 - 10 points? (How tragic does that sound?) Of course we're down but I still have hope that we'll eclipse Derby's record..
-
Just came on here to post the same thing but Juric is (unbelievably) only 49 so probably a bit early to hang up his managerial boots.
-
Goztepe don't own him, he's on loan with an option to buy so not sure that puts us in any advantageous position.
-
Would be nice to see some rumours, I don't really care whether we sign anyone or not, as we all know the season is a write off but with the football results being so drab, it would be nice to have something to be a little excited about. That said, I had a dream we won the next two games, if it happens I'll let you know my thoughts on the lottery numbers.
-
This isn't all that groundbreaking but I know on for a fact that Henrik was a key decision maker in the recruitment of Juric, of course he would be but it makes me wonder, do these sound like the actions of a man who is about to walk away? I'm pretty sure this is a you can write your own obituary sort of thing but you're out the door son.

Ipswich signing Philogene for £21m - how far we've fallen. No offence but Ipswich?

I genuinely don’t even know where to start with this transfer window. The idea of clearing out ‘dead wood’ sounds good in theory, but as has been discussed before, how realistic is that? Moving players on is far easier said than done. With the season effectively over for us, what’s the value in bringing in short-term options at this stage? It feels like a plaster on a much deeper wound. Looking at the bigger picture, we’re an absolute basket case of a club right now. It’s hard to imagine us being attractive to the kind of calibre we really need to rebuild. I think we’re going to face far more situations like Delap’s - where bids are accepted but players ultimately turn us down. And who could blame them? The lack of cohesion and clear direction in the way we’re managed is honestly quite disheartening. The whole operation feels so disjointed that it’s difficult to see how we make meaningful progress anytime soon. Without significant changes at a fundamental level, it’s hard to muster much optimism about the future. This isn’t just about this window; it’s about the long-term health of the club, and right now, it feels like we’re spiralling.

I don't know why but I've decided I really want Rohl and I really do not want Corboran or Kasper H (can't spell it or be arsed to google)
