Any illusions Ireland might have had that the EU is going to reward them in some way for being its Brexit patsy have evaporated today with the news that the European Commission is pressing ahead with its plan to abolish national vetoes over a swathe of taxation issues. Removing one of the last major hurdles towards an EU-wide tax policy… Ireland will be particularly hard hit by the changes as their competitive corporation tax rate is central to their impressive growth rates. The EU does not like tax competition or regulatory competition because they expose its own glaring inefficiencies. Hence why their long-term goal is for unaccountable commissars to set all the taxes for 500 million people – and collect them too. It’s only a matter of time before Ireland starts to feel the costs of the EU far more heavily than the benefits…

For a country that is worried about a hard border between the Irish Republic and the UK, they were certainly keen on one during World War II. One thing we should remember that, like Scottish Nationalists, Irish Catholics have a long history of deep hatred for the English. Any chance to screw us, they will take, as they will our money and jobs, when they need to. The US are one of the few countries that is trying to help us, as they did all those years ago. It's a great poem and my interpretation, if you are able to read literature, not written by a Socialist author, is that by paying £35 billion to the EU under May's deal will not guarantee a Brexit, because the EU will continue to take from us and ".. the end of that game is oppression and shame, And the nation that plays it is lost!" You may not care whether the end of the game is the loss of our nation state and think that I am jingoistic, but the UK is not trying to build a new and expansive Victorian empire of the type that Kipling lived in. Germany and France, using the EU as a mechanism are trying to do that and we are helping to fund them. "Dane Geld"... Luckily, Britain had King Alfred vs the Viking hordes.
