Considering Clegg is towards the Right of the Lib Dems, he is more naturally going to side with Cameron than Brown. As Labour found out in 2003, it doesn't matter how principled the party, immoral decisions will be made are if you are led by a Tory in disguise...
-
Good Question. I would hope that Clegg will initially contact the party who have polled the highest, and try to broker a policy agreement. If an agreement can't be reached, he might turn to the second highest polling party. I can only hope that in the event of a hung parliament, Clegg sticks to his guns and forces the larger party to take a more rational economic line.

Sorry for bumping this, but just done this poll, and got: Crime: Green Democracy: Green Economy: Green Education: Green Environment: Green Europe: Labour Health/NHS: Green Immigration: Green Welfare: UKIP (ouch)

Is the Guardian Labour, or Lib Dem, or Green, or all three?

Nice to see a bit of good news in the papers eh... as I see it the Express are telling us that a growing minority of UK children are bilingual. Education standards must be improving. Bit of a shame about the majority of UK schools (c. 23,500) which are overlooked by this article.

I usually vote Lib Dem, but while he is the better than Brown of Cameron, Clegg is still too much of a Tory for me. I'm very tempted to vote Green instead. (Just wish Ashdown or Kennedy were still leader).

Shocking. I'm absolutely outraged. People in MY country, are for one reason or another living in completely degrading shelters, and instead of protesting that we should do something about it, some of our national newspapers decide that the real story is that these unfortunate indivduals have been forced to fish and hunt for food. How very dare these Eastern Europeans expect to come over here and barely survive? Yeah, lets kick them out and stir up some more of the xenophobic ambrosia that our blue-rinse, shoulder-padded, octogenarian readership love to spend their pension on reading about. Mind you at least the Polish Embassy makes a sensible point: "How many Polish people are involved?' he said. 'Four or five. A minority. If somebody has broken the law by behaving in this bestial way, I'm sure they will be punished according to the British law. I've heard of four or five people being arrested. It creates the wrong picture to say that hordes of Polish people are taking British wildlife."

Calm down dear! They'll get their justice

The council is Labour not Socialist HTH Also, if you read the article you posted, you would see that in 2009 there was a concern about extremist groups exploiting the parade. Perfectly legitimate to cancel it under the circumstances.

Perhaps I was a bit harsh. What I mean't was the areas of Britain with lowest diversity, are full of people who have little first hand experience of living with people from different races. There is a strange parallel between some of these areas which lack diversity, and their tendancy to vote Conservative.
-
Absolutely agree. I take great pride in the diversity of London's population and the way it is showing the world how multiculturalism is possible. The harmony with which different racial groups co-exist in London is one of the best things about the country IMO. The c. 1 million utter bigots who are hell-bent on wrecking this in the name of 'patriotism' are a disgrace to everything this country stands for. Anyone voting BNP must hate their country.
-
Of course it isn't racist to suggest that you believe that multicultralism has failed. It is the 'and therefore...' that so often follows this sort of arguement which decends into racism. FWIW, I think multicultralism does indeed work, but only where the town planners are proactive, and provide mixed economic housing. Towns such as Burnley are perfect examples of where multicultralism hasn't been applied, and the inevitable tendancy of humans to feel more comfortable around people they know has seen a seperation in communities and growing mutual distrust. London is one of the better examples of multicultralism working successfully. Sure there are a couple of districts that are dominated by a single minority (e.g Tower Hamlets, or Peckham), but there are plenty of examples of areas where communities are currently mixed and getting on fine (e.g. Streatham, Acton, Camden etc). From my personal experience racism is much more of a problem in the areas where large non-diverse communities are gathered, such as Burnley, Peckham (oh and a few other areas, which on the 7th May will have retained their shade of blue.)
-
So am I. Big difference between patriotism and racism though.
-
I'm sure you'll agree I fall into the politically correct left wing, I still consider myself to be a patriot. Just not at the exclusion of others. There are different types of patriotism: there's a huge difference between positive pride in the good things in a country, and authoritarian hatred of the 'other'. When patriotism becomes racist, it is rascism.

I think we can grant them a final hurrah... but where are you getting the 'getting away with it' nonsense from? The storm clouds over Krap Nottarf are still think and darkening by the day. They most definately haven't got out of the brown stuff yet.

Wonder how Admin Andy is feeling today? Sore head? Had been waiting for today to start the big cull, but now they've only gone and won it (with a little help from TCWTW). So what will Andy do? Terminate contracts, or appease the Few (we saw the empty seats!) and become personally liable for wages over the next few weeks? Probably too late anyhow, as he's already become personally liable for any bonuses that the club can't honour. Ouch, yesterday must have been a game Admin Andy wanted desperately to lose...

In legal terms both football creditors and HMRC are unsecured creditors, don't need to be treated in the same way as each other? Is it legal to pay 100% of the football creditor debt, but only 10% of what is owed to HMRC? I know the FA has a 'golden share' rule, but ignoring that, is it even possible for one unsecured creditor to be paid back more than another?

Excluding Lab/Lib/Cons what other party would you vote for?
Joensuu replied to woodfc's topic in The Lounge
Ay, PR isn't ideal, but the stagnation of politics at the moment needs some reform to shake it up. Perhaps the Welsh sudo-PR might be the way to go? -
Lib Dem 75% Green 71% Lab 56% UKIP 41% BNP 36% Tory 33%

So does Political Compass (http://www.politicalcompass.org/extremeright ). The BNP are a left of centre party, just a horrible authoritarian one. Bloody socialists! Oh, and Dune, please note, Blair/Brown are in the authoriatarian RIGHT wing corner... (i.e. not Socialists). FWIW, I'm seriously considering voting Green (as the Lib Dems simply aren't liberal enough). Unfortunately I know that because of the constituency-based voting system we have I will be throwing my vote away. What a crap system -
Marks for effort. Short answer to your question is that not a lot has happened... The Few still have: One dodgy admin, who doesn't seem to have audited the books after weeks in charge, but still keeps finding IOUs under the carpets at Krap Nottarf. One dodgy owner, who ticks all the boxes for ownership, apart from willingness. One dodgy manager, who has employed some violinists to try and convert press anger into sympathy. Although his complete averageness and on pitch celebrations does seem to have pulled the wool over the eyes of the Portsea inbreds. One team, disappearing by the day. One set of fans, with their feet firmly on the ground, talking about promotion next season, and what to call their new stadium. One dodgy millionaire scouser, who has loudly swapped his shirts for a blue one, and told all the supporters that they are the bestest in the world ever, but whose company has posted massive losses, and who hasn't managed to show the Admin two beans to rub together. Hey, but at least he might be good at kicking tyres. One group of creditors, desperately awaiting news of any forthcoming meeting. One fraud squad accumulating evidence. One Football League, now in receipt of one large dossier. One CVA, never to be signed. One Juan Román Riquelme still waiting for the call. Oh, and down the road (you know, head past the edge of the council estates, past the last know bastion of fish sex, straight on for about 20 miles), your significantly better supported neighbour won one little paint pot. CHEATS

People calling for Pardew's scalp every time we fail to win are annoying. Mind you people who claim we should back Pardew long term irrespective of resultsare equally annoying. Pardew isn't doing badly, but neither is he doing exceptionally well (as some on here seem to think). He's doing okay. Is Pardew irreplaceable? Most definately not. There are plenty of managers who wouldn't normally drop to League 1, but would make an exception for a club with such a good squad in place, such obvious ambition, and an owner with such deep pockets. Should we replace Pardew? No. He has performed okay this season, and deserves the chance to improve on that. If we are outside the top 4 by Christmas, Cortese won't take too long to make a decision. Were the moaners in the OP going completely OTT? Without a doubt, but some of the other posts on this thread which seem to make out that Pardew is irreplaceable, or a messiah, or that a 55% win ratio is amazing, or that we have overperformed this season, are just as annoying IMO.
-
I like many others heard no evidence of boos aimed at Cortese. I also feel strongly that Cortese hasn't done anything worthy of having boos directed towards him. What many percieve to be arrogance, I see as determination. He wants to drive Saints forward, and I think the vast majorty of fans want exactly the same thing. His alleged 'tiff' with Pardew has more do with the local rag chucking away their rattle (and the nationals catching a non-story on the grapevine), than it has to do with any real disagreement. Pardew knows the score, he knows the ambition, and he knows the JPT or not, his target was to try to reach the playoffs. I think this means trying to reach 76 points (which in a normal year would see us finish sixth). What Cortese says in public, and what he says to Pardew in private are two different things. Cortese almost certainly sees that Pardew is doing okay, he has not underperformed significantly, nor has he overperformed. Pardew will almost certainly get the full 18 months he has been promised (unless he looses say five of the remaining games, or the first five of next season). Less than 65pts this season, and I'm sure some questions will be asked. 76pts is the target. IMO Cortese has balanced his public statements very well so far, ambitious, honest and direct.

Well at least one Skate thinks its real: "To celebrate their world famous paint pot win they have come up with a new badge." http://www.pompeyonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56747 (Requires login)
