Watched about half an hour, interesting from a historical lead up but the reasoning seems flawed to me. To quote Putin from years ago and assume what he said then is what he thinks now is just sloppy reasoning, actions speak for themselves, Russian passports are being dished out in Kherson when it will likely fall back into AFU hands at some point. It seems to me that most, but not all, Ukrainians wanted away from Russian influence. The west is arguably just as greedy and corrupt as Russia in some areas but at least it has some form of functioning democracy, it's people are largely free to speak their minds without fear of persecution. There are those in Ukraine that only today, as the Russians were advancing on Lysichansk, were blaming Zalenski (Sky news - the "biased western media"). The lecture quoted Putin as he would treat Ukraine "with respect". As for Belarus, Lukashenko may well find himself hanging upside down from a lamp post if he's not careful.

The United Kingdom and the Death of Boris Johnson as we know it.
kyle04 replied to CB Fry's topic in The Lounge
I think the handling of the Ukraine war has been Boris's finest hour so to speak, assuming you agree with helping Ukraine that is. He is an extremely popular figure in Ukraine and to them perhaps symbolizes the west's solidarity for Ukraine. Sadly his domestic shit-shows means he is on borrowed time, there's been too many fuck ups, obfuscations, economies of truth etc. Ministers used to resign at the mere whiff of scandal, there used to be a sort of unwritten code of acceptable behaviour, dear me, what ever happened to Eton. Thinking back to the Thatcher years, regardless of your politics, her cabinet were talented honourable people with a certain gravitas, perhaps it's just the times we live in but very few of our politicians seem to possess any redeeming characteristics. -
Absolutely, it's a death trap for any forces stationed there. The Russians have been bombed out a few times there and decided enough is enough. AFU have also lost men and equipment trying to take it. Best just leave it alone for now. It's quite a scalp for AFU though, perhaps Russia could extend their current goodwill spirit and just f*** off home. If possible Crimea needs to be hit from afar now, Russia have lots of bases there.

It's even more annoying after a tee shot, on a par 5.

Russia may be turning to Mr Creosote : https://www.newsweek.com/photo-obese-russian-general-pavel-putins-army-prompts-speculation-1719470 Romour has it that this guy puts away 5 meals a day, each washed down with a litre of vodka. Looking at him it's difficult no to believe it.

Or indeed if Zalenski was a woman...?

It would, there's a large dam on the northern Crimean border area, and about 3 or 4 other bridges. The was some controversy as to why these bridges weren't blown at the beginning of the invasion, speculation of a rat or two in the AFU military, it would have made Russia's progress into southern Ukraine a lot more difficult.
-
They'll say the same if/when the Donbas is under their control, together with Kherson -> Mariupol land bridge no doubt. Ukraine have next to no chance of re-taking Crimea anytime soon though, but not a bad thing to keep Russia a little worried about it.

Interesting documentary last night focusing on Macmillans negotiations with JFK in 1962 to obtain an independent nuclear deterant from the US (Polaris at the time). The Americans were very unwilling to play ball and Macmillan's political credibility was on the line. But they made a deal in the end , Uk would build the subs and missiles, US would provide the warheads and allow UK to use them independently. The US seems a little unstable right now, if Trump gets back in power who knows what may happen.
-
I'm sure they'd feel at lot less at ease now if there wasn't a nuclear capability in Europe (France & UK) together with the NATO umbrella. Europe can't keep relying on the US to hold their hand, especially given the insanity Russia are now engaged in, and that goes for conventional military capability as well. Nuclear doctrines for each country are quite specific, and do not allow them to be used "tactically" on a battlefield so to speak.

Their line is we've got the money, but only in rubles. Could be something to do with the fact that Russian banks spunked all their foreign currency on buying rubles to keep it afloat (and flying high apparently).

I think, given the terror-by-missile tactics the Russians are employing, that if the west is sincere in it's commitment to defending Ukraine they have to send an arsenal of air defense systems straight away (Patriot's, whatever). Russia are now firing Iskander missiles from inside Belarus, and using their airspace to conduct air strikes. This has to be blunted and while Ukraine have shot down a number of rockets too many are getting through.

Belarussian army apparently forming defensive positions near the border with Lithuania, I don't think Russia need another battle front right now though. Russia not too popular with the former SSR's are they? Only certain goods covered by sanctions will be blocked though, fair enough given what Russia are doing with the Ukrainian grain stocks.

What's next I wonder, anti-Gay laws? Says so in the Bible.

Lineker's had the sort of privilege in life most of us can only dream of. Talent enough in our countries top sport to make it to the top level, followed by a very lucrative media career, fame, fortune and generally well liked by all. But because he was called names at school (who hasn't?) he decides to cry about it now. Grow up mate.

The comment wasn't intended as a point for debate, I'm pretty convinced he is not of Asian origin, even though he ....... no don't go there.

Too many were offended obviously, I think the server crashed under the welter of indignation.

The Ukraine MOD figures, a lot higher so I would say somewhere between oryx and this : https://www.mil.gov.ua/en/news/2022/06/19/the-total-combat-losses-of-the-enemy-from-24-02-to-19-06/

The Ukrainian troops are taking an artillery pounding, all day every day, yet still they are resisting and in many instances counter attacking in some areas. Russia are expending 50-60 thousand shells per day according to some estimates, yet their progress remains painfully slow on all fronts, both sides taking heavy casualties. Russia still does not control all of Serverodonetsk, although the bridges behind the Ukrainian forces there have been destroyed making a retreat very difficult across the river. The good news is that more heavy weapons are on their way from the west, Macron making positive noises as well since his recent visit, so in time the tide may turn in Ukraine's favour, but at the moment no-one is "winning".

So religion is bollocks then, who knew...

Maybe you should ask our Muslim community, and explain why parts their religion is wrong?
