beer up in Saints history.

Anderlecht 77

When we only have memories this will be talked about around the christmas dinner tables for years, with grand children saying my granddad was there.

Yes I was there apart from the Result it was a great night and morning.

Come on you Yellows

I get Hamburg (a) Keegan and Anderlecht (a) 1977 mixed up a little but

Anderlechct for me was 48 hours on a coach, the beer in Brussells, the Saints fans singing "Chanson D'Amour" to the bemused Belgian cops and Channon having a good goal ruled out for offside. (Years later there were allegations made that were never refuted that the ref took a bribe).

The coach left at midnight from West End, Southampton - you can imagine what sort of state everyone was in.

I remember leaving SW London where I lived then driving to Soton to catch a coach which then went past the end of my road three hours later.

The Singing on the Ferry was great and no one seemed to mind the 2 0 result

I remember the police escorting all the coaches into town. Fantastic trip. Boat a bit rough on the way back. We left from the coach place at West End

Colliseum I think.

Must have been on the same coach. I was with a nipper who threw up half an hour after leaving Southampton and lost his false teeth in the process.

I remember the mass game of footie in the car park at Dover. The bar staff flogging crates of beer on the boat and pocketing the dosh.

What was scarey was the ground where the terraces were crumbling under your feet if you jumped up and down.

How many times was Chanson D'amour played in the ground that night?

The bar was packed in Ostend.....they made a fortune that night.

After we all had to sign a sobriety pledge when we bought our tickets, our coach left the Pirelli club in Eastleigh at 11 pm with 52 drunken Saints fans on it,and it went downhill from there. As FF & Ron said ,the highlight was " Chanson D'amour.Dont ask me about the game,I believe we lost.

GLAD I am not the only one who remembers it, remember getting back in uk about 6 in the morning coach going up the Old Kent Road to pick up the old A3 ( NO M25 in those days) getting strange looks from people on the streets in London at 8am

Back in Southampton for Pubs to open at 10am.

We went from the Dell up the M3 and around the South Circular and down the A2/M2 from what I remember got back at rush hour in the morning in London

i cannot remember going , but like Duncan and a few others, went from West End in coaches run by Coliseum, to drunk.

Sobered up by Dover only to start again on the ferry

I DO know the H&S boys would have a field day with the stadium in Brussels.

One thing I do remember was that not too many people were upset by the result as they were there for the beer.

The only other European Match I remember remember was a game down the Dell when I was in the Milton Road End against a team from Portugal who were 3 0 up after only a few minutes

I think we drew 0 0 over there

Nah Sporting Lisbon

Yes

1981-82 UEFA

SPORTING LISBON (POR) H 2-4

SPORTING LISBON (POR) A 0-0

One of the most comprehensive beatings I ever saw at the Dell

Mind you fully expect to see many more comprehensive beatings at St Mary's if we survive
