RedAndWhite91 Posted 11 July, 2009 Share Posted 11 July, 2009 I don't understand why Block 43 has been taken from the home fans, and given to away fans? The Northam stand is the most vocal, and by taking away a block it will reduce this noise. Also, I'd imagine that there will be less away fans this season than last season, so why increase their capacity? I'm a bit confused. Let's hope blocks 1-4 in the Itchen are nice and loud to counter this Northam reduction. Can anyone shed any light as to why this has happened? saints_is_the_south Posted 11 July, 2009 Share Posted 11 July, 2009 We very rarely have block 43 anyway & it usually is part of the away section.

I sat there against Nottingham Forest last season, when we lost 2-0. Bore the brunt of Forest verbal.

Nexstar Posted 11 July, 2009 Share Posted 11 July, 2009 Home fans go up to block 42 only for almost every game, only on occassions where there will be a small away following and a sell-out in the home end is it opened up.
J Bizzle Posted 11 July, 2009 Share Posted 11 July, 2009 They only open it for midweek games don't they??
shurlock Posted 11 July, 2009 Share Posted 11 July, 2009 Itchen blocks 1-4 aren't open either. With the corners closed, only block 4 is open.

That would have been one of the first things that i would have changed. Maybe ML hasn't gotten around to reading how disgruntled many were when they were first closed. Nope it was definitely block 43, and on a Saturday, but I have just remembered it was the game before Man Utd which everyone went to, and so that's probably why it was open. This has cleared up my confusion, cheeeers.
ericb Posted 11 July, 2009 Share Posted 11 July, 2009 cool that means my season ticket will be closer to the away fans again. Just need them bring more than a handful!

Dannyboy_Saint Posted 11 July, 2009 Share Posted 11 July, 2009 Cant understand why blocks 1-4 aren't open. Money problems were the reason they were closed in the first place but now that we dont really have any surely they can be let open again.

Money problems were the reason they were closed in the first place but now that we dont really have any surely they can be let open again. Why should the owner subsidise an area when we are unlikely to see more than 2/3s of the capacity used if we even sell half. Just because he has the money he shouldn't simply throw it away just to be popular with the fans. NOT SHREWD, NOT HOW YOU BECOME A BILLIONAIRE. This is good news as it seems increasingly our new owner is not going to be a super wealthy version of Leon Crouch and hopefully he proves that further by not employing Strachan or Keegan. However, employing Tony Adams would be going to the other extreme to prove the point. Interesting days, and so far it is looking very good, just need the managerial appointment to endorse it. Dannyboy_Saint Posted 12 July, 2009 Share Posted 12 July, 2009 Even if the ground is half empty im sure alot of people would prefer to sit in these blocks as they have always been seen, along with the Northam end as the places with the best atmosphere. Even when we were only getting 17k through the gates in the season before last blocks 1,2 and 3 were nearly always 3/4 full which greatly improved the atmosphere. I remember reading somewhere when the decision to close off the corners was made that said that the amount of money saved by closing 3 of the corners was only around £200k. Surely then this isnt a huge amount of money to 'throw away' if in return the atmosphere is greatly improved which could help get more bums on seats and reduce the cost of keeping the blocks open even further. SaintsAddict Posted 12 July, 2009 Share Posted 12 July, 2009 They leave Block 43 free from season ticket holders as they have to supply a maximum number of seats to the away fans (about 4,000 I think). So for example if Millwall asked for their full allocation, we would be obliged to give them said number of tickets which would include block 43. If this was the case and we had ST holders in block 43 then we would have to move them. However if it is obvious that the away fans won't be selling anywhere near their full allocation then we open up 43 to home fans (which is most of the time). HTH Anyone know whether you can get a ST in the Kingsland/Northam corner this year?
Michelle Posted 12 July, 2009 Share Posted 12 July, 2009 If the away team takes their full allocation, that only leaves us with the first four columns of seats in Block 43. I was on the end of Block 42 for several years, and know that this has always been the case. They only open 43 if away team don't sell out, or confirm the smaller allocation early on.
