Spudders Posted 29 March, 2010 Share Posted 29 March, 2010 (edited) Which was best? As much as I loved the JPT final and it was great to win some silverware, I have to be honest and say I feel the 2003 FA cup final was the better day out. Just wondering what everyone else thinks? Edited 29 March, 2010 by Spudders Added 2003 as referring to that final
NorthamSteve Posted 29 March, 2010 Share Posted 29 March, 2010 the 2003 semi for me was better than the final and yesterday was better than that. The reason being that we knew we were going to win the semi against Watford, and yesterday we knew that we would win the cup. Although we had a chance in 2003 I think deep down we all knew that we were playing one of the best sides in Europe at the time. Yesterday was the best all-round football trip I've had. samoakley Posted 29 March, 2010 Share Posted 29 March, 2010 The media build up the FA cup final more and you know people will talk about it more so some people will perfer a fa cup final day out, also we were the favouites yesterday so maybe some were not that excited, also we had the game wraped up at half time maybe if we scored in the 80+ mins and won 1-0 it would of felt better for some. I hate losing as a player and a fan so i would say yesterday was better nothing worse then losing and the winning feeling is amazing even if its 1-0 or 4-

madruss Posted 29 March, 2010 Share Posted 29 March, 2010 I think the FA Cup final was a lot more nerve-wracking as there was so much at stake, in that the prize on offer and the prestige of beating that Arsenal side was immense. Yesterday was just enjoyable from start to finish as it was more about the celebration of Saints being on the way back up again and the amazing show of support from the fans than the actual 'glory' of winning the paint trophy. That said, it was a pretty special moment when Kelvin and Deano lifted that cup!

david in sweden Posted 29 March, 2010 Share Posted 29 March, 2010 Which was best? As much as I loved the JPT final and it was great to win some silverware, I have to be honest and say I feel the FA cup final was the better day out. Just wondering what everyone else thinks? I was remembering interviews with the 1976 cup winners, when they talked about "having your name written on the cup " . Both Osgood and Rodrigues used this phrase and recalled being 0-1 down in the 3rd round v. Aston Villa at The Dell..and Hughie Fisher scored in stoppage time (FT 1-1) and we won the replay a.e.t at Villa Park starting the journey to Wembley 4 months later. On octber 6 2009, a paltry 9319 fans watched Saints go 0-2 down to TORQUAY (then near bottom of L2). The fight back started in 59 mins with one of two goals by Papa Waigo. FT 2-2 then on to pens. (winning 5-3) The start of the journey to Wembley 5½ months later. An odd paralell I thought but FA Cup of JPT....but it means just as much to those who lived through both. Barney Trubble Posted 29 March, 2010 Share Posted 29 March, 2010 I think we should do a poll of some recent Saints great days or moments. I'll add the semi final at Pride Park to that, I'll never for get that moment when Rasiak hit that last minute goal - what a ****ing moment!!!!!! Almost as good as David Platts goal against Belgium in the World Cup. As for the answer to the question - well the FA Cup still makes my hairs stand up on my neck, singing abide with me with all my fellow Saints will live with me forever, despite the result, it was still a great day. saintmatt Posted 29 March, 2010 Share Posted 29 March, 2010 cup semi and final in 2003 for me as well (+ would've preferred beaten the skates this season).still a fantastic day out tho, seeing so many saints in london and actually watching us lift a trophy was absolute quality!nice to see the pardew/cortese embrace as well, lets quit the embarrassing booing/slating of the latter now shall we?? Gudz Posted 29 March, 2010 Share Posted 29 March, 2010 Having nearly gone out of business and ceased to exist last summer, yesterday meant so much! FA Cup was great, but yesterday just blew me away! Fan The Flames Posted 29 March, 2010 Share Posted 29 March, 2010 The JPT for me at least was about the day yesterday, it was a brilliant day. The FA cup was about the whole journey, add up all the thrills and laughs along the road to Cardiff and it wins hands down.

doddisalegend Posted 29 March, 2010 Share Posted 29 March, 2010 Yesterday becuase we actually won, the FA cup was to painful although in truth having been hammered by the Arse only a few days before we all new we wouldn't win that FA cup really. I think the only thing about yesterday was we won so easily that it took something away, imagine if yesterday had been a repeat of the Norwich match it would have gone done in the histroy books as a great saints game. As it was we cantered to an easy win with a second string side, I was expecting carlilse to make more of a match of it. If it hadn't been for the crap of the last few years and our almost total destruction as a club yesterday wouldn't have meant as much, but right know it seems like the start of a new era and that alone makes it very special to me.
