saintbob40 Posted 7 October, 2008 Share Posted 7 October, 2008 Another one! Good effort by our new recruit. He's knuckled down and has done whatever has been asked of him at RB, CB and CM. :smt038
JohnnyFartPants Posted 7 October, 2008 Share Posted 7 October, 2008 But are our boys getting picked because at that age they are playing week in week out against better players, rather than because they are better than other kids the same age? Is that because we are the first team to ever play youngsters in our first team?
JohnnyFartPants Posted 7 October, 2008 Share Posted 7 October, 2008 Is that because we are the first team to ever play youngsters in our first team? No, it just seems this is the first time we have done it to such a huge extent, therefore making it easier to get more teams in the U21's etc. If you have only one player under 21 then you have just one chance of him being picked. If you have 10 then it is 10 times the chance of being picked. A lot of other teams will be nearer the 1 player than 10 player count.
saintbob40 Posted 7 October, 2008 Author Share Posted 7 October, 2008 It is certainly better for these youngsters to be playing first team "grown up" football rather than festering in a big club's reserve team which are generally all 17/20 year olds. That said I am sure they pick the best/most promising players.
St Landrew Posted 7 October, 2008 Share Posted 7 October, 2008 Hang on, I see a trend happening here. This means that the best young players who truly want to play regular first team football will be clamouring to play for Saints in the future. Hooray, we're saved..! um pahars Posted 7 October, 2008 Share Posted 7 October, 2008 Fair play to the lad and I think his cultured style of play will look even better at U21 level.

Bailey Posted 7 October, 2008 Share Posted 7 October, 2008 Good news. Cork has been really impressive since arriving on loan and fully deserves his call-up. I do hope Saints are able to extend his loan til the end of the season, as he's been first class for us.

I would agree with that and let us hope that he enjoys playing with a number of Englishmen and other UK players which might cause him to stay.Playing in Chelsea reserves with a load of foreign players, watched by crowds of 200, cannot be much fun. Mind you, give it a few weeks and he may want to go back to their reserves to play in front of big crowds.....
