DT Posted 28 March, 2011 Share Posted 28 March, 2011 Goal difference. It is crucially important, in my view and will be almost worth a point in the final reckoning. And with ours at 34 currently, 10 more than Peterborough and 12 more than Huddersfield, it means that if we lose in the meantime we must only lose by the odd goal, if possible. Another good idea would be to win all our remaining games 4-0, of course... Can quite envisage us nicking second (which is essential, in my book) on the strength of goal difference with points level with Peterborough (in my opinion). Brighton are basically champions - hats off to a good manager and decent set up. Personally, I'm dreading the play-offs, as I don't think we are the sort of team to get through them (as shown last time). Still can't help thinking we could have done with an old head brought in to stiffen the central midfield, though....

Two teams on the same points are decided on GD and the team with the greatest GD will qualify. I assume what you're alluding to is that if Saints plus A.N. OTHER finish on the same points in 2nd /3rd place, then we'd go up. Such was the case in 1965/66 when Saints 2nd and Coventry 3rd were both on the same points.. and we had to go to our last game (away at Man.City - then already Div.2 champions). We would go up .. as long as we didn't LOSE by more than 6 goals. After a breathless evening and a 0-0 draw that gave us an extra point that..in the end, we didn't need. The better GD was enough. Saint Charlie Posted 28 March, 2011 Share Posted 28 March, 2011 We should end up with the best GD of the three - could be crucial. Also, as much as the playoffs would be hell I think we have a team that actually would do well. We have a "winning record" against the teams we would be likely to face and are solid at the back with reliable goal threats. Tend also to rise to the occassion against the better teams. That said - we are in a great position for auto - the next 2 games are crucial, win them both and we will be in a brilliant position.
