Pauwel90 Posted 1 July, 2014 Share Posted 1 July, 2014 Guys, I'm currently working on my master thesis. I want to measure the effects of ownership models on the loyalty of football fans. As a fan I'm very concerned about the new developments in football and there hasn't been a lot of research on this topic. Remember that this is a theoretical approach; it doesn't quite catch the full picture. The goal of the thesis is to detect some strong effects that could be further analyzed in new research. It will take 5-10 minutes of your time. I got the feeling this is a topic that concerns a lot of fans. So I would love to collect a few opinions on the matter as well. https://jfe.qualtrics.com/form/SV_6CZc9HhL1wyqr77 Thanks in advance, Pauwel Nuytemans
Colinjb Posted 1 July, 2014 Share Posted 1 July, 2014 (edited) I reject the notion that there are two different types of fans as you have identified, it's far too rigid and is in fact a grey area. I meet the criteria of a traditional fan yet am also quite able to rationalise the fact that my team isn't going to win every single game, losing can be quite easily rationalised. Therefore I decline the chance to do your survey. Edited 1 July, 2014 by Colinjb
badgerx16 Posted 16 July, 2014 Share Posted 16 July, 2014 For the "effect of ownership" on a football club, take a look at Blackpool. In their Premier League season the club paid £11million pounds to Owen Oyston, the father of their chairman. Now, having avoided relegation last season, they currently have only 8 registered players, with no goalkeeper - 27 players left in the close season. They have cancelled their pre season tour because they cannot put out a team, ( they are suggesting that they might compensate fans who had booked travel to watch them ), and if they do manage to recruit enough to put 11 on the pitch, it is likely that they will have just 1 'friendly', ( in quotes as it's against Burnley ), before they kick off the new season away to Notts Forest.
