Torbay Saint Posted 9 February, 2009 Share Posted 9 February, 2009 I am just trying to get organised for Saturday. Is it an easy walk from the train station (Temple Meads) to the ground? Also is there a pub nearby or is it better to have a drink more near the town centre?
SimonRichards Posted 9 February, 2009 Share Posted 9 February, 2009 I've been told is a long walk from the station to the ground. Were getting a cab to an away friendly pub, probably the Nova Scotia.
Andy_Porter Posted 9 February, 2009 Share Posted 9 February, 2009 From http://www.footballgroundguide.com/: The nearest railway station is Parson Street which is around a ten minute walk away from the ground. However few trains stop at this station so you are more likely to end up at Bristol Temple Meads mainline station instead. This station is at least two miles from the ground and hence too far to walk, so best to jump in a taxi (around £6). Neil Le Milliere a visiting Exeter City supporter adds '"don't try and walk it from the station unless you really have to and then allow at least 3/4s of an hour for the journey". Chris Davis says; 'there are buses which leave from behind the Atyeo Stand at the end of the game which go to the centre of Bristol and Temple Meads Station at a cost of £1. Although predominantly for home fans, away fans could also use them'.

Yes I have heard this an away fans pub, also the Pumphouse close to the Nova Scotia is ok for away fans, any idea how long is the walk to the ground from these pubs ? would prefer something nearer to the station then hop on the £1 bus service. I'd be carefull with any bus services on match days, if it's anything like the Reading bus from the station then it will be a nightmare and you will end up losing a load of drinking time queuing up for a bus. SimonRichards Posted 9 February, 2009 Share Posted 9 February, 2009 We went to the Nova Scotia last season. A bit of a dump, but the beers was reasonably prices and it was full of saints fans. 10-15 minute walk to the ground from there.
SimonRichards Posted 9 February, 2009 Share Posted 9 February, 2009 Other pubs around the ground are very strict about letting in away supporters.

labibs Posted 10 February, 2009 Share Posted 10 February, 2009 I went to the game last year and a got a bus to the ground quite easily from over the road from the station. There was a mad rush for them at the end of the game though, so ended up walking back to Temple Meads . It's a sizeable walk but I made it in plenty of time for the last train back to Cardiff at around quarter to 11, even stopped for a pint before boarding. Game was mid-week last season mind. Traffic was pretty bad outside Ashton Gate as well, the bus didn't move that much faster than we did walking!
Kaiser Soze Posted 10 February, 2009 Share Posted 10 February, 2009 A word of warning if you do walk makesure you know where you're going, I walked back last year (midweek) but got lost and missed my last train back, resulting in a night stranded in Bristol. Wilko Posted 11 February, 2009 Share Posted 11 February, 2009 Nova Scotia is mixed home and away. It's a very small place, so on footie nights gets busy. If you want a quicker pint, I suggest going somewhere else. I'll be starting in the centre on King Street, then taking a boat on the docks to the Nova Scotia.
