Some classic Rupert

Not trying to start an argument - just for a laugh in case anyone's missing the ruddy cheeked old bounder.

On Steve Wigley:

"No, but I believe that Steve Wigley - who is back, incidentally, as director of youth football - could have done it if people, the board and the supporters, had had a greater degree of belief in him."

The old "blame the fans" - a classic tactic, mercilessly employed with the rapier precision of the preening matador.

On Glenn Hoddle:

"Everyone makes mistakes; the art is to learn from them"

Rupert, the artless high priest of irony.

On the grounds for employ of the gentle art of persuasion:

"Harry's made it quite clear that if we remain in the Premier League, he's keen to stay. He is less keen to stay here if we don't."

On stability:

"Having Harry at the helm next season will add the stability that we needed so badly last year"

On mixed metaphor:

"Having spent ten years building it up, I have no regrets about putting my head in the lion's jaws and coming back. I just happen to be the chairman when the ship, which was holed below the waterline when I arrived, finally sank."

Let's hope the lion doesn't drown.

On bare-faced nonsense:

"I bear no grudges"
