Allowing for say 10% increase since 2006 we still have a lot of players earning vastly over the odds who just don't earn their keep.

It's not about what players earn, it's about what they bring to the game not take away from it. We pay some of the highest paid players in the CCC even now, yet we're 23rd and lost at home to the worst side last week, who are also no doubt paying top dollar.. Hasn't football always been about: 1. The best manager. 2. The best players. And the best sides having both?? You can have either and succeed. SFC Forever Posted 11 April, 2009 Share Posted 11 April, 2009 We will get a buyer. We have to. The one thing we can't determine until we know who is how much there will be for the team after the purchase. Funny how Lowe left it as late as he could to close up shop. Was he doing it to make it as awkward as he could for any possible purchasers? No games for income and months without a use for the stadium. I know someone will say Barclays pulled the plug but it smells to much.

No idea how much Peterborough pay tbh. Absolutley correct,it is about what the player brings to the team but also very much on how he is coached, how fit he is made to be and how much passion he has for the game, something both of the dutch clowns have failed to instill and enforce this season. Paying a decent wage to a player who gives his all and has some talent to boot, is a must if you want to keep them and show them your belief in them. You can have either and succeed. No football wasn't always like that, it used to be about cohesion and fight and turning up trumps for your fans whether you got 20£ a week or 200£. I'm old enough to remember when we were a top top top side, yet we had home grown players who were certainly on far far less than stars at Liverpool,Man U and Everton. It's only since Sky TV that that attitude crept in, big clubs buy all the best players and keep them in the reserves so that no-one else gets them. When a fading star comes on to the market lesser light fight over him and usually get shafted. Looks at Wolves side yesterday, I would wager that their collective wage was less than ours, yet we were shafted right and proper from the 1st minute onwards. We have wasters in our side, they should be giving the example, they aren't.

He cares nothing for ths club or the fans despite him putting himself about all over the media claiming he does...
Saints foreva Posted 11 April, 2009 Share Posted 11 April, 2009 Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't it state in all the players contract that they must take a wage cut if the club are relegated? I remember that happened when we got relegated from the Premiership.

We have wasters in our side, they should be giving the example, they aren't. I think we had one of the best managers in the league and also four England captain's in our ranks. They wouldn't have been far off the salaries of bigger club players because there was no huge disparity. Heady days. As regards Wolves, you're also looking at a top quality manager who has been promoted twice(?) from this league and didn't do a bad job in charge of Ireland, versus a pratt. I'm loathe to condemn players. None of them chose their salary and none of them wants to be part of a losing side. They don't ask for humiliation every week by choice. Look at the difference between Spurs under Ramos and Redknapp - same players. Yet Ramos can manage Real Madrid??? It's a complex game but we've had two clowns in charge this year and our players know they have precious little time left with us... It's a car wreck and while I rail and wail about the players, in my heart I know where the fault lies - organisation, management, fitness, belief, motivation - those are just a few of the things our team lacks... Jackie@home Posted 11 April, 2009 Share Posted 11 April, 2009 League One wages are about one third of Championship wages, on average, but Mandaric said he would keep a Championship wage structure to make sure they came straight up. Peterborough have a benefactor who says he's put £8m into the club so far - a huge amount at this level. However, wages aren't everything. I'm sure Donny, Blackpool and Barnsley's wages are much lower than any of the 3 clubs most likely to get relegated this season. Might have something to do with picking a good manager, let HIM choose the players, and letting him get on with the job! QPR have stacks of money but also seem to be making a right lash up of it - obviously, brains and money is the correct combo.

Thats because no actual money was spent, we made a transfer profit in the summer.
Jackie@home Posted 11 April, 2009 Share Posted 11 April, 2009 I think we've all managed to work out that changing your manager every few months is not a recipe for success, though.
