And then went on to be called Revolution!!!
-
There is a small plaque in Hoglands Park, about 10 feet in from the fence just up from the Royal Oak pub that details events and losses. There are a few accounts and references on the web.
-
The Hannover Buildings one started off as Mick Channon's Sports, but a few years later morphed in to the Saints Shop. Mate used to work there as a 15 year old and when he was working upstairs in the footwear section, some of the "older" crowd would come in, go upstairs, walk by him and lob trainers out the window!!!!
-
The hypocrisy was not lost on me that some of the most vociferous posters who were previously shouting "show me the proof", "until the facts come out I'm not prepared to accept that", have jumped in with their size 14's and lynched McMenemy because he gave his tri-annual FA Cup interview a couple of weeks prior.
-
Don't remember many injuries, but there were 4 goals (3 of them penalties causing a stoppage), 3 bookings and 5 substitutions, so I'm not sure we can complain about the time added on. Additionally, we have to play right up until the final whistle.
-
LOL, I'll be honest we did have a chuckle at your expense, but we also remembered the singing of "It's just like watching Brazil" whilst 2-0 up at Middlesbrough (BTW can anyone explain why one has Brough and the other Borough?) only to cling on for a draw. I think if we hadn't been laughing at the amount of people going absolutely mental when they scored their fourth then we would have either been throwing those wooden seats on the pitch or climbing up the floodlights to throw oursleves off!!!!!!! It is indeed too many years of watching Saints!!!!!!!!!
-
Were you the guy with a young lad about halfway up in the middle block of seats (few spare seats behind him)??? As he was going mental when that chant got going!!!!!! I'm not sure it had any effect on the outcome, but having watched Saints for almost 40 years I have to agree that I'd only be singing that song when we're ten points clear of 3rd with one game left (even then I'd be worried that the League would unearth a crass rule and deduct us 10 points for some obscure reason!!!!).
-
Treble agree. Won't complain about their 2nd penalty, as ours also looked dodgy. As for their second, although harding looked to be at fault (we were in the seats so couldn't see exactly what happened at the far post) my beef was with the ease that they got the cross in. Chaplow was on his own as one bloke took the throw in and then another played it straight back to him. We were too stretched in the middle of the park as the way we set up was meaning Hammond and Chaplow were being asked to cover too much ground.

(posted this on wrong thread earlier!!!) Still not sure what to make of that result. On the way home and after a long day travelling, I was fuming and thinking that surrendering a 2 goal lead (twice) demonstrated that we just don't have enough to go up. This morning, I'm reflecting on my original line before the game of "I'd settle for a point" and thinking that 4 points from 2 away games isn't that bad. As for the game itself, I'm just not sure we ever looked that comfortable, which does seem a bit crass when you consider we scored four and were leading twice. Is it acceptable to be critiquing our performance when viewed from that context??? I just thought our set up always exposed us and Chaplow and Hammond were being asked to do too much in the middle of the park. Chamberlain and Guly had been set up to go forward which left big holes on both flanks which Peterborough exploited. Posh were a very decent team going forward, but their set up also exposed a leaky defence. My criticism would be that after going two up early in the second half, Adkins should have gone more compact and try a 4-4-2 to see the game out. I would have put Richardson on at right midfield (in place of Guly) and told Chamberlain that whilst he could still forage forward, his priority was to support Harding. He seemed to make the substitutions but persevered with a similar system and POSH came steaming forward. Good away turnout, but wished it had been a normal KO without SKY as we would have probably doubled our travelling support and got a really good atmosphere going on that terrace.

£50m, you're having a laugh. If someone was waving this amount of money around for a loss making third tier club who are struggling to get out of that division, then I'm afraid the current owenrs would probably bite their hands off. You'd have to have quite a connection with the Club and bucketloads of sentiment to turn down such an astronomical figure. It's just a pie in the sky rumour. As for the bedwetters connecting Lawrie's bi/tri-annual FA Cup interview on how he delivered us our only trophy (there's only so many times you can tell that story!!!) and how he beat the big boys, and him being the source of this rumour well words fail me. Paranoia seems alive and well amongst a few on here.

Don't know what it looks lie on the box but we need to get to 4 4 2 asap

Getting picked up in a minute by a couple of mates who drove down. There's probably one on the back of the parcel shelf which I'll ask about.

The refusal to sell a season ticket at Southampton FC
um pahars replied to lenwilkins's topic in The Saints
As with your snide accusation that I am attacking Cortese, I find your insinuation here to be just as ill thought out. Along with others I have attempted to rise above the individuals involved (although of course that will be difficult due to supporting the Club and Cortese in their efforts to move the Club forward and also knowing NI). I personally would have thought you would have been above such attacks, but your contributions to this thread and your unnecessary and facetious lies have demonstrated that this would be too much to ask from yourself. -

Some interesting logic there. The ban on photographers caused some divisions on here and in real life, but I'm not sure the logical conclusion that should be drawn from that is that photographers are divisive! Instead it is the actions of the Club, that have been found wanting in the IFO report, that have been at the centre of this controversy. -

To you, a season ticket may be just a ticket to a discount, but maybe to others it is more than that. A chance to sit with friends, a guaranteed seat, some extra benefits, no hassle, a commitment to the Club you support, maybe a badge of honour etc etc etc. Those 13,000 ST holders will probably have a myriad of reasons why they buy them (including some or none of the above reasons) and perhaps some of them would be just as upset if they were refused this oppourtunity and probably somewhat irked if this opportunity was denied with no good reason provided. Once again we can probably agree on something. You have your opinion and I have mine and it has been good to debate our views in a sensible fashion without getting caught up in the personality involved, so thanks for that. I hope it is resolved and I also hope we go from strength to strength and go up this season. With that in mind I'm off to Peterborough in 30 mins (have no idea why we're going do early!!!). Take care. -
If you're coming out of the Dolphin the pub on the right hand corner was The Southerners and on the left was The Queens (now a chinese upstairs and bar that changes its name every week). The Southerners used to have some very, very, very rough topless barmaids, so bad it actually put you off your drink. Upstairs in the Queens used to be a regular skinhead haunt.

The refusal to sell a season ticket at Southampton FC

At least we agree on something Oh come on, supporting a football team and buying a season ticket is not the same as any normal business/consumer transaction. To try and suggest it is, is rather dienegenuous and somewhat missing the point about what buying a season ticket and supporting your team is all about. Why have 13,000 other people signed up for a season ticket if it's not that much of a big deal??? Along with the commercial aspects of making such an investment, there are the emotional aspects attached to it. This isn't North Korea and football is always going to be an emotional business. After all you only have to look at this site to see what passions are aroused by a whole raft of issues, on and off the pitch. -
I missed that the first time around and came over in a cold sweat thinking about Katalinic, Granger, Kite, Nixon, Andrews etc etc etc

Although money's obviously an issue, I think buying a season ticket is much more than that. After all, why have 13,000 people signed up for one if it's not that much of a big deal? I think that's slightly OTT, to an individual who has been supproting the Club for so long I think he is due an explanation (after all, the IFO seem to agree with this line of thinking). -

It obviously wasn't that petty that they decided to revoke someones season ticket. I would have thought for them to take those actions they would have thought it to be more than petty. Plus from the individuals perspective it is somewhat more than petty. -

So Nick needs to give his disgruntled "customers" an explanation, but the Club don't need to. I love consistency, me. As for the other stuff either side of that classic dash of hypocrisy, then I have to say I much prefer it when you ramble on about the Empire. -

I think if they cared that much to revoke the ticket and put a refund through without telling you this was happening, then I wouldn't put it past them to care enough to come down on you if you had managed to sneak in via the back door (and this time not give you a refund LOL).
