  1. My 21,232 was not a bad guess, although mine didn't include the 232 stewards that the Official Attendance includes!!!!!
  2. Indeed and one of the arguments on this has been that success drives the crowds up, rather than crowds driving success. I think we would all like to think there is a link, it probably has something to do with our own feeling of well being, stature and success, but we have probably underperformed just as many times as overperformed in front of big crowds. I'm sure there was a period in the Championship that whenever we seemed to draw a big crowd we lost!!!!!
  3. Beat me to it, so no point reposting. He will still be earning mega wonga, enjoyiong his social life and playing in the top flight, so can't see why we should be that sorry for him. Now if he had had a career shortening injury or a loss in his personal life, then that would be a different story. He's made a decent wedge, represented his country, plyed his trade in the top flight and won some silverware, something that thousands of footballers (and millions of us ordinary idiots) could only dream about.
  4. Personally, I would take that. Don't like to lose players, but as long as that money is to go back in to strengthening the squad, then I'd accept it.
  5. Just been told it will be 21,232. No idea how they can be that accurate, but that's what it will be.
  6. Quite simply the best signing we could have made during this window. Great news all round and thanks to all involved. I'm not naive to think he wouldn't jump ship if a big top flight club came in for him, but at least we will now be able to dictate what fee we want (that said, wouldn't be surprised if there is a get out clause written in the contract if Lallana wants to go and a minimum fee is met). But for now, over the moon that he has committed himself to us. Wonder what they have offered him per week (and as a bonus)???
  7. Hats off to the lads knocking out this fanzine. Have bought everyone so faras always like to support someones ghard efforts and have been reading fanzines since they appeared back in the 80's (remember buying The End outside Anfield many moons ago - now that was a good fanzine). Just think the current version is a bit tame/longwinded. As others have mentioned I think it needs to be a bit risquey, have a touch of humour and perhaps look to involve other things such as culture, music and a bit of comedy. Not suggesting it needs to be controversial or risquey for its own sake, just something a bit different. It must be difficult given the plethora and immediacy of the internet, but think there is still a market for a good fanzine out there. How many are you selling of each version???
  8. Just called contact who got me the info and passed on some of your thoughts and he shouted it was NORWICH who were after him you wkner!!!!!! I then suggested he might be confusing Ricky with Paul Lambert, at which point he went quiet and then hung up. Sorry!!!!!!!! Boooooooooooooooooooo
  9. Just had some gossip that NORWICH have made an offer for Lambert. Anyone else heard similar???? Personally would not want him to go, nor do I think Forest would be a big enough step up to tempt him (not that I think a Premiership team would be after him). Are we sniffing around anyone at Forest which mena he could be part of a deal??? (apologies if someone has posted this before)
  10. The Colin Clarke double was in January 1988 (courtesy of ITN). Used to enjoy the stops in Banbury, remember bumping in to United on their way back from losing at Bournemouth in the Cup at some point (twas interesting!!!!). Banbury always used to be interesting, either with the locals or other teams stopping off for a drink. Was there a pub called The Cross??? and another called the Three Pidgeons?? Sure the Cross was where we used to drink.
  11. Was on Foley's coach as well that day and remember parking up outside Lancs Cricket Ground and being hassled straight away from the locals!!!!!! Forgot that Matty got the equaliser and thought the game ended 1-1.
  12. Very good point. I'd be totally happy acquiring someone of his skill and guile for £1m (I would actually pay even more!!!), so would have no problem him getting that kind of transfer fee as a signing on fee. He is just different class IMHO. My worry is that he wants to play at a higher level and will make his decision at the end of this season one way or the other.
  13. Old age must be getting the better of both of us. It was Nov 1988, and Jim Leighton was in goal (Bailey was still sh1t mind!!!!). Went 1-0 up after 7 mins with this goal Le Tiss equalised late on to earn a 2-2 draw.
  14. Would have no problems making 11 changes for this game. Just wonder if the JPT cost us anything last year (as great as the day out was, I'd definitely swap it for promotion). Can understand the keep on winning mentality, but don't think we'd lose heart if we put the ressies out!!!!
  15. Me too. In that lower paddock section right behind the goal. Bailey dropped a clanger right in front of us. Will get ITN out to try and find the game.
  16. Sung many times on Foley's coach in the 80's. Seems just like yesterday LOL. Funny thing was that they were never on my radar until that 84 Cup Match. Up until then they were an insignificant bunch plying their trade in the lower divisions. I remember going on holiday down Selsey way in the late 70's (still have the Donkey Derby photos, God I was skinny) and getting some stick and being called a Scummer. I really had no idea what they were on about as Portsmuff really meant nothing to me at all (I think they were down in the 4th division and almost going out of business every month). They were as insignificant as Bournmuff (although at least they used to get a cheer if they had won and it was announced over the tannoy by Jack Fleet). I was more interested in getting promoted and playing the best teams in the land.
  17. And Gary Bailey made the only decent save of his career (can remember him gifting us a goal at OT when he dropped Graham Baker's 50 yard knock!!!)
  18. My Brighton team from memory (I really did used to like them in a friendly cousiny type of way in the late 70's as they were my first away game, but the Cup match in 86 was quite tatsy as I had grown up by then!!!!!). Graham Moseley Steve Foster Mark Lawrenson Gary Williams ??????????? John gregory Jimmy Case Gordon Smith Brian Horton Gerry Ryan Michael Robinson Manager: Alan Mullary
  19. Now that was the type of humour I was calling for
  20. I know you did, was only kidding. Another reason I wouldn't go as I would probably end up sitting next to a knoob like BHA!!!!!!!!!!!
  21. To be honest, i don't think I would make that journey from Southampton every fortnight.
  22. It's like being savaged by a dead sheep. At least try some humour or outright abuse. You're not even a very good troll.
  23. I would suggest looking in the mirror. Weird how someone who follows a team who are doing so well, with a new stadium about to be unveiled and with benefactor giving them support feels the need to post noddy stuff on the board of a team who are clearly not their rivals. Now had you been having a little tiff with some Palace fans, then I might begrudgingly accept your existence, but your efforts on here have been rather dull, uninspiring, lacking in humour and a touch loony. I (and I think many others) bear no animosity towards Brighton and view them in the same way you would view a distant cousin. You're not looking very good with your posts on here. At least ratchet up the abuse and slagging, or else dip in to some humour as you're coming across as a weird teenager who hasn't got many friends.
  24. No, we were quite a bit short in the end. Not really sure on two fronts. Firstly we aren't a huge club (although in the theoretical/hypothetical/**** waving pecking order we must be in the top 20 or so), and secondly it is difficult to fill a ground in the Third Tier (even in their promotion year the rather large Leeds United had an average of 24,000). Hope that helps.
