  4. Too true TDD I left the Gloucester half way through a refit in Rosyth, part of the refit package was converting the seniior rates rec space and the RO's mess the fwd heads and showers to a girly area. I can only say I was glad to get out before I had to go to sea with them. But to their credit when I was an instructor at RNSLAM the majority kept up with the males some even surpassed the men.

  12. A short while ago my wife started to trace her family tree, in the process we found some addresses from the census records. Out of interest we tried to find the houses her ancestors were in at that given moment in time. Naturally some still exist, others were part of Adolfs redesign plans for Southampton. Anyway to cut a long story short, we found this site which you can navigate around Southampton either in the present day or time travel to either 1870 or 1845. I have spent several hours playing with these maps totally facinated by what was and what is left. To get the 1870 / 1845 maps use the link and select the change backgound maps box, then choose either of the two. The 1845 is not very clear but the 1870 you can zoom right in and see all the detail, even the manhole outside South Westen House which is still there. I was amazed at how may of the pubs are still in existance, some even with the same name, as for the area around the stadium, well have a look and see, but dont look for Britania Road it did not exist back then but the Britania hotel did. Have fun http://map.southampton.gov.uk/gis/asp/MapFrameset.asp
  13. Which of the above is the truth
  14. Sorry if this has already been covered, but is it included in the sale of the club or has it already been sold off to help pay our creditors? Whilst I realise it was left by the Cobbett family to help the club, are there any legal stipulations that could get in the way of a potential purchase. Can any new owner (still believe we will get one) do as he/she desires?

  21. Getting back on topic, the police at Heathrow are in UNIFORM whilst on patrol and in the public eye. The idea of a UNIFORM is for everyone to look the same and have a sense of belonging. The only differing parts of a UNIFORM are rank or trade badges. Since when has it been down to the individual, wearing said UNIFORM to attempt to enhance it with his or her own embelisments. As an ex serviceman I fully support the help for heros campaign, and a lot of other charities, but how would a copper look if he filled his stab vest with all the charity pins avaliable? The only exception to this rule is and always has been the November Poppys, the only servicemen not allowed to wear them ironically is those taking part in the London Cerimonies.
