Please give me some leeway, if six chefs all fail to make a good dish with the same ingredients perhaps they aren’t all bad chefs, it might just be the shite ingredients they were given. Downs is our classic “one for the future” or “resale value” the problem is we needed a striker for today in the here and now and we have done for several seasons. A proper #9 that can compete physically with Championship center backs and win crosses, it’s not that bloody complicated, you’ve brought in wingers but can’t s win headers, crazy.

We spent 8M euros on Downs while Hull go McBurnie on a free transfer. One of them bullied their markers, scored and got an assist while the other looked terrified and disinterested. We desperately needed the finished product and not a project/maybe. Downs will join the growing list of piss poor center forwards that seems to have no end

45 minutes of long balls to a midget striker, followed by 25 minutes of crosses to the same player and finished with 20 minutes of crosses to a taller striker that doesn’t win many headers. Our number 9’s don’t cut it and haven’t done so for a long time

I agree 100% that our chances and creativity will improve, it’s just up to date our 9’s haven’t shown the edge needed to capitalize on it. Fingers crossed 🙏
