I think it might be because the underlying behaviour, from a morality perspective at least, surely remains the same - it was the behaviour that inspired the rule. I think it's a case of reviewing the statements made by the team that lost (the same statements that called for expulsion in this instance), and then continuing to follow their demands accordingly.
