  1. You? Think? Blimey. I think your problem here is the exact opposite, Alps. This is normally a topic people would be swarming over if the OB had a serious case to answer (as they did with de Menezes). Consensus seems to be that it actually wasn't necessary to shoot him, but the officer who fired the shot had no way of knowing it. There's also recognition that toting firearms isn't good for your long-term health. Needless? Sure, on both sides. Duggan shouldn't have been carrying a gun in the first place; turns out he wasn't actually a life-threatening danger when he was shot. An avoidable yet understandable misunderstanding given the circumstances.

You mean the one that you didn't wish dead?
  3. The little bastards rebel, KRG. Rage Against The Machine is "Dad music" to them. Ed Sheeran is the opposite.
  4. Parenthood leads you down some strange and disturbing paths. Two years ago, I gave money to Simon Cowell so that Juvenile Unit #2 could maintain her One Direction addiction. This morning, I have been harangued in my capacity as "person near a computer" to purchase Ed Sheeran tickets, which as we all know, will go straight to a fund for ginger supremacists. I feel dirty about both purchases, if I'm honest - but Juvenile Unit #2 seems happy enough. Anyone else got any recent examples of taking one for the team?

Around 17K people have signed a petition calling for Channel4 to stop showing the programme. The Indy did a piece on this on Wednesday when the figure stood at 3.3K. http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/tv/news/thousands-sign-petition-urging-channel-4-to-drop-benefits-street-9047223.html The next episode is about Eastern Europeans, apparently.

Some ultra-wide shots from PC version:- Very nice game. Almost done.
  7. That's a very one-sided way of looking at things. Another viewpoint is that they won't be happy with this posters' content irrespective of what you do. I know what was on the original post; I know it was accurate - as I was around at the time. The real problem here are the squinnying basts who'll scream at every bit of bad news they hear, insist it's all paper talk and shoot the messenger. There's almost no acknowledgement of their incorrect position after the fact either. So, they're allowed to hang off Turks' posts when they think they're right, but Turks has his right to reply edited when the facts are established? Weird system you have here.

    Arcade Fire

Listening to The Suburbs again. Reflektor makes it a better album, and not because Reflektor is crap. The stroll through The Suburbs gets you there. Some exceptional tracks on that album. We Used To Wait, Ready To Start, Rococo and The Sprawl II are already lauded as Arcade Fire classics. I have a real soft spot for Modern Man and Wasted Hours; having the packaged bookended by the sighing title track is just the icing on the cake. Couple of tracks I'm indifferent about, but it does make me chortle when people knock it.
  9. Going to a mosque, perhaps?
  10. Hello, hello, hello. What's all this then? http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?48453-Poch-to-leave-at-end-of-the-season&p=1850134#post1850134 Not really happy with this, mods. The whole point of coming onto SaintsWeb is to engage in at least some mild form of argument. I'm actually more worried about you lot invoking editorial control of individual posts than the usual bedwetters making noise after jumping onto a baited hook.
  11. It's been done to death and that's coming from me.
  12. I've been listening to The Airborne Toxic Event 's eponymous album after getting a couple of recommendations from US pals. Read a review which lambasted it for being good, but not necessarily having its own voice. I get that. At times, sounds like The Strokes and The National have been put in a blender, but I really like it regardless. My last.fm chart ain't lying. This is a good un [video=youtube_share;jsiQiBmq-qw]
  13. Man up, VW. The hardcore don't ignore
  14. You'll hear no real complaints from me, apart from the expense.
  15. Yup. Back when i was doing permanent work, I was a bit disgruntled with my station in life and got poached by another agency. Bit of a pay jump, but the job was a nightmare. Things were undersold, the attitude of the management was that our time was free, or at the very least, highly malleable. Wasn't for me, and on closer inspection of my contract, realised that after serving four months, I'd need to give two months notice. Didn't have anywhere to go to, but knew it wasn't for me. I resigned without having another job. Due to some very restrictive post-termination covenants, turns out I couldn't work for a competitor in Liverpool. Still not sure whether that was legally enforceable ( EU right to trade trump it? ) but played along and set my sights wide. Ended up getting the client in Northern Ireland, who I retain to this day. That was a good move, as it turns out, but I'd offer the following qualification:- a) I didn't care where I worked, at least not initially. b) My skillset is in demand c) I went from perm to contractor, which is a bit different in itself Don't do it if you're not confident of finding something else, in other words.

Only really at football matches, sadly. Frankly, the decline in car crime in the city has been a disgrace. We're at number 8 at the moment. The hated local enemy occupies the top spot. http://money.aol.co.uk/2013/08/19/revealed-the-car-crime-capital-of-england-and-wales/ Local boys need to pull their fingers out

You're letting the neighborhood down, Alps. Coming across as a council estate loafer who can't be arsed to read articles.

Shut up Tokes. Anyone with real life experience of these young scallywags knows the real phrase is "mind yer car, mister?".

    Benefits Street

Don't know either to be honest. They're either misrepresenting this:- She said: “They have shown me pointing at houses shouting ‘unemployed, on benefits’, but they haven’t shown me pointing at the houses where I knew people were working and in jobs. "I’m really worried about how my neighbours will react if they see it. “They have edited everything to suit their own needs – taken a positive and turned it into a negative.” Or they're pulling from official figures, in which case the exercise of getting someone to point out who is on benefits looks like a pre-planned move to hit a certain agenda.
  20. Put on enough festive weight to be an independent source of gravity, have you KRG?

    Benefits Street

Not really the point, hypo. There are quite a few working people in that area, as one of the participants pointed out when doing her walk-by of the houses. The programme implies that everyone is on the Rock n Roll.

Ok, put it this way. If a TV company did a documentary on your area, how would you feel if they presented the worst residents as representative of the whole?

    Benefits Street

Benefits Street is a new TV show commissioned by Channel 4, currently hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Anyone seen this? Hitting the headlines today. Those that appear on the show claim that they've been misrepresented; some even fear reprisals. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/benefits-street-channel-4-documentary-2994242 Problem two is that many of the people who have appeared on the show are now getting abuse on social media. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/benefits-street-twitter-threats-against-2996710 OFCOM has already received 100 complaints about the show, but in brighter news for C4, this is their highest rated program for years, snaring 4.3M. Benefits Street. Worthy documentary on the underclass, or tub-thumping exploitative piece of propaganda aimed at right-wing mouth foamers?
  24. Nah, it's fair enough. Different people like different stuff. Most of my Southern mates have had the proverbial ball here when they come up, so if nothing else, nice for the city to attract recognition that'll bring more people here.
  25. I don't think there is any city in the world with 500,000 people (or indeed a metropolitan sprawl of 1.5m) that doesn't have rough areas. Anyways, Clubmoor isn't that rough. Most of the houses are semi-detached and occupied, for starters. Quite near to some other dodgy areas though.
