Playstation Plus is completely different; Sony's attempt to eke some cash out of its online offering. Damn good service too. The price of a game per year, for tons of games per year. Ok, they're not all brand new, but it's a great deal. Sony considered no pre-owned with PS3 at one point, but backed out. It'll be interesting to see whether they take a similar path now that bad guys Microsoft have broken the mould.

Apples and oranges really. I have no problem buying something on Steam because I know that I'll be able to play it now and forever, on any PC I happen to own. I am amazed that they are going to be charging a pre-owned fee, and reports suggest that fee won't be far off full price. Games are devalued when you take the shrink-wrap off anyway. Now they will be virtually worthless.

Already garnering a lot of negative attention. Every game has to be installed to the hard drive. If you don't have a one-time code, you'll need to pay a pre-owned fee. All Sony needs to do to win the next console generation is NOT do this We'll see.

Why would end up paying more? The French are raking it in.

That's not really an excuse. Other governments manage it, and actually make a lot of money out of us into the bargain. I keep repeating the stat but state-owned EDF pulled £1.6Bn in profit from UK customers last year.
  6. Tokes, how are you doing on the shopping list for Bear's return party? Did you get the narcotics? What about the hookers? Have you paid the rozzers off to ignore any bodies that turn up?
  7. Now now. I'm sure that Man Utd fans tour the country singing anti-Rochdale songs.

Similar sentiments were expressed on the Daily Politics on Monday. Utility provision should be nationalised. Any "profit" should be re-invested to develop new techs and/or bring the cost of energy down.
  9. A common strategy in project planning is working your way back from where you ultimately want to be. The endpoint is all important. If the eventual goal is Champions League football, then you formulate a plan to get there. How have other teams done it? Which strategies were successful? Bit of a chicken and egg answer, but the best way to get into the Champions League is to already be in the Champions League How many times have footballers moved to get themselves onto the biggest stage? That doesn't really help us. Sad as it is to say, almost exclusively, money is probably the answer. I'm not sure that Swansea and Norwich are actually the best examples for comparison. I'd look at Everton instead. Here's a club, which is doing stuff all the right way and has had long term stability. A bigger club than Swansea or Norwich, and yet they only managed CL qualification once through Moyes. With a bit of cash, they might have cemented their place in the top four. It never came, so they never did. Their manager has now left and tough times lie ahead for Everton. My point? They hit a glass ceiling and that was funding. Football has very few winners. That's why so much money is spent to get in amongst them. If you want success, it comes at a big price.

I dunno, Phil - if Bexy was annoyed with the cavalier attitude to military tradition, I can't really see this one doing any better on that front. Some of the decisions that Starfleet make are just barmy, and completely out of step with what we thought we knew about the org. Fair dos, you could argue that the events of the first movie have bled into the second, creating a harder Starfleet with a different outlook, and I wouldn't have a massive problem with that, except nothing else in the movie plot-wise has been thought through particularly well. It's a question of priorities. After having seen both movies, it's pretty clear that the priority is for things to be AS INTENSE AS POSSIBLE AT ALL TIMES. I think deep down, even Abrams knows this ain't what Trek is about, which is why you have so many characters ( particularly Bones ) in caricature mode for the entirety of the movies. The movies it is trying to emulate ( I count at least two ) are nothing like it. They all manage to be exciting enough yet equally, all have space to breathe. I'm still of the opinion that Star Trek II, III and IV is the great unheralded trilogy of sci-fi. Abrams could have been 2/3 on his way to a similar achievement. Instead, he's spent two movies box-ticking and ripping off previous content - when all the ingredients were there for him to boldly go where no-one has gone before.
  11. Can a mod rename the thread "Ricoh Arena Not On Fire"? I can then use this as precedent to start a thread called "St Mary's Not On Fire", and thus secure mainboard glory. Booya! (etc, etc)
  12. Jolly good news.
  13. I would like to respectfully mark the point at which the poll reached 69 votes. Bearsy would have wanted it this way. Next step is obviously to get 69 for Bearsy.

Keep the faith, sussex. All the TNG Blu Rays were conditional on the previous set doing well. They even did a three episode taster from different seasons. I reckon it'll follow on. If there is one thing that Paramount love more than flogging something, it's flogging it again!
  16. Pardon me, I didn't realise that other forum members were locked into a specific section of the site! Fk me, I'm uber at computers. I've been able to switch between them all, at will, ever since I joined. Jeally?

Whereas I have just ordered TNG S3 on Blu Ray to detox.
  18. The poll is doing a lot of talking, imo. The chap has been banned for repeatedly making comments that are supposedly perceived as offensive, yet he has near universal support on this poll. If people are so outraged by his remarks, how come people aren't voting a big no? That suggests that most people are not offended by the Bear. Most are either not arsed, or strongly in favour of our fallen comrade's antics. Can we get the catalogue of infractions, mods?
  19. Unban them all! But Bearsy first.
  20. Pacman update. The pie chart calling for reinstatement is now so strongly in favour that Google Docs can no longer print the smaller percentage! There just isn't enough pie!

It has been just under 24 hours since I saw Star Trek Into Darkness. Over the course of the last day, I've had some serious nerd rage kick in. I am not happy. First off, let's deal with the big twist. Should never have happened. Would have been a perfect opportunity to create something really unique and special; the actor in question is capable and might have even become a legend in his own right. Ah, ******** to that. Let's just do something utterly predictable instead that'll have facile f*cktards cooing about how clever it all is. It's not clever. Anyone can do homage. You just copy something, change it around a bit and simpletons will call your larceny "clever" if they've enough braincells to recollect and link the reference. The amount of stuff that just makes no logical sense. Spoiler for opening sequence of film. The gallant crew is trying to stop a volcano from erupting. They've parked the Enterprise underwater, even though the ship can and orbit safely from space. This is important because Kirk later gets chewed out for violating the prime directive when the natives see the ship rise majestically from the water, which would not have happened if they'd parked their space ship in space. Adding insult to intelligence, instead of just beaming their volcano-neutralising McGuffin into place, Spock goes down to place the device there by hand, while the volcano is in the process erupting. Spock is eventually rescued at the absolute last second by teleporter, by the Enterprise, which at this point is sweeping majestically over erupting volcano. I don't mind abandoning common sense for the Rule of Cool. I've had entire films rescued for me by one kick-ass inclusion or revelation. However, when the whole film is full of nothing but set-pieces and quips, I do find myself longing for some more modest Trek that does a little more to stimulate the grey matter. This is a f**king cartoon.
  22. Can I ask what the point of the poll is? Will Bearsy be restored to his rightful home? Will the yes/no breakdown ever be published? Tune in this week, where the mods will answer none of these questions (and perhaps less!).
  23. Rise to what? As far as I can tell, my last post was self-deprecation centred on where I live. I wasn't having a pop at you, darling.
  24. Only prob with that is the screen res, but I'd still give this the pap recommendation.
  25. Frankly, I'm disappointed with the quality of my ghetto, Bazza. I'm the sort of absent-minded bastard who leaves his keys in the door of the house or everything in an unlocked car. Never had anything nicked. Perhaps I need to downgrade. I was down Empress Road the other day and considered it deliciously scummy.
