I don't understand that bit about "4 at the back with the players we have", it often gets said, but Bednarek and Yoshida with an additional DM protecting wouldn't be worse than what we have, would it? I'm not expert tactician but I can see where 3 CB's can either end up occupying the same space or no one occupying it / picking up runs as opposed to two.

On Fridays showing Norwich would cause us problems, Brighton are not a bad side, just lost their way under Houghton in the second half of last season and have brought a few in over the summer. Sheffield United are an unknown quantity. Burnley are always a handful, a bit like the old Bolton under Sam. I was blindly optimistic before the weekend, but have since faded badly. But will all be right again if we get something from Liverpool.

I do not get the obsession with young players, centre backs are often very good into the mid 30’s, it’s one position you need some maturity.

Why am I always full of blind optimism before the start of the season. I really should have learned.
