fook that was quick...FONTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

When he came here I was open minded, but hopeful. Results have been fairly good, but nonetheless no more than what was expected with the strength of our squad. Our only two 'toughies' away from home Huddersfield and Carlisle were lost before we kicked a ball IMO. Particulary the Carlisle game, where we very negative, in approach and selection. Adkins will be judged by Cortese's willingness to back him in January. To get that we need to be in the race for promotion. Are the players any happier under Adkins? Some signs that some are. Recent leaks from inside the club suggests that there is still a lot of problems at the training ground. Has he got the best out of our players? Not yet he hasn't. He certainly hasn't got the best out of Lambert, nor did he Puncheon. Oxo, and Lallana are playing well under him. Fonte has been inconsistent, and the whole defence has looked a bit shaky in the last few games. This will continue until Fonte gets a partner he is happy with. The promising Martin hasn't had a look in, for some reason. The zonal marking at corners he introduced, has been a disaster IMO. Another struggling to play their best is Schnderlin. Barnards future at the club is still uncertain, apart from his misconduct out of hours, he is still not utilized to his full potential. He is first to be dropped, first to be subbed. That doesn't help with his confidence. Tactically, Adkins has proved to be a lot more cautious than Pardew. He communicates well with the fans, and I believe he relates to them more than the previous manager. Overall, he is OK, but could do better I'd give him a mean 6 out of 10, mindful that the two biggest games are to be played today, and midweek. Two good results.. could raise my hopes;) and his marks !

If Adkins selects Jahidi against the pace of the Petebo'ro forward line, when we have both Martin and Seabourne available, he will lose my support. IT WOULD BE SUICIDE

I was up there watching them Tuesday night V STOCKPORT (yep! Pulis and all) They struggled to contain Stockport, until they scored, then it was as if a great weight had been taken off their shoulders and they played some pretty good football after that. But they have no real width up front, so most of their stuff was played through the middle, at pace. Sorry, it would be suicide to play Jahidi against them. Mack-Smith was injured in the 2nd half, and will struggle to get fit in time for Saturday IMO. Boyd waas doing his own thing, mopping about, getting caught offside as if he was Papa Waigo reincarnated. MACLEAN LOOKED VERY SHARP. Their defence is woeful, and despite having one of the best keepers they look as if they can concede at every attack. In fact Lewis pulled off 3 magnificent saves to keep them in it.. and were talking Stockport here! Their midfield is workmanlike, more destructive that creative. Their whole shape is a bit suspect..big gaps between the backline and those up top. Surely against us they will tighten up and constrict the spaces ? WE COULD HURT THEM BADLY DOWN THE FLANKS, they don't deal with width. If OXO is on form and Lallana stays wide I can see us testing Joe Lewis a lot . Barney will have a field day with his pace against two one paced center backs...a penalty or two is on the cards the way they tackle. Time for Ricky to step up his game, he will never have a better chance! An early goal for us, and I can well see us going onto a 3 or 4 nil win. Their confidence, like ours, is paper thin.

Charles Darwin, Michael Palin, Wilfred Owen, Mary Webb, Clive of India...
patred44 replied to benjii's topic in The Saints
I would have thought we would have evolved a bit more since Darwin -

another factor to consider is that Adkins record is the best since Alfred McMinn left in May 1897. 27 GAMES UNBEATEN UNDER ALFRED and his team wore the sash as well.......:toppa:

If I remember correctly the reason we changed from our traditional blue shorts to black was because the shortage of blue material in post war Britain. Rationing was far worse just after the war than it was in the war years.

I got so fed up with it yesterday I rang SMS... The receptionist was unaware there had been problems with Saintplayer.. yeah !! She claimed it has nothing to do with the club... but I reminded her it reflected on the clubs image, and affected many of Saints fans abroad. She then gave me a number for Solent. I rang Solent, they were helpful, but at a loss at what to do. They gave me a direct link to BBC football commentaries.. it worked. But it will only work for cup games apparently, and only if your in the UK. I've emailed Saintsplayer several times in recent weeks.. they just don't reply, THEY ARE EITHER IGNORANT OR TOTALLY INEPT.. Whatever, their record over the last few months proves they are not worthy of the franchise from the club. Tomorrow I am going to try to track them down by phone, let fly at them, and demand a refund for my subscription. IF ANYONE HAS ANY CONTACT NUMBERS... PLEASE LET ME HAVE THEM I will also contact the club again, and speak to someone I know to see if the club will help in any way. It's time Southampton FC knew what some cowboy outfit is doing in their name to their fans.
