Look, if your just going to go through a list of beliefs and ridicule them then there really is no point in this thread. The very nature of faith means that there are many things which cannot be proven and never will be. Many people do believe in things such as the power of prayer and whilst I personally cannot say that this works, I am not an omnipresent being who can be everywhere at once so I can never definitively say that there is nothing in it. It's like when I say "there's no such thing as ghosts." I can't prove it, it's just what I believe.

Is clearly varied depending upon who you speak to. There is not one group called "christians" just as there is not one group called "atheists". To group them all together and say "this is what christians believe" is absurd.
-
Not sure it happens quite like that but I take your point. There's a good series of fiction books actually called left behind. An atheist friend borrowed them and actually found them quite an interesting read.

Then clearly FF's original comment is unnecessary, as are my subsequent ones!

It's a point my dad makes very well. Look at the 19th century and early 20th and how big British businesses such as Cadburys looked after their workers and the local community. Look at what religion the owners were and how it shaped their behaviour. No matter what you think of religion, it's a shame that this was lost. And that's my final word on the matter

And as I said, Pardew has had a look at him. If he puts him in then he obviously believes he deserves a chance and that's partially what the FA cup is for anyway so I can see the thinking of some. Thanks for the reasonable reply btw.

Nowhere in the bible does it say that the crusades are moral and just.

If you wish to PM me then I will give you my answer. I don't want to write on this topic on here any longer.

I am not suitably qualified to make a real judgement but I would say no, in my view it was misguided and against my christian values.

The bible like every belief is open to interpretation. People may choose to take it literally if they like. Others (like myself) may read it and form a different opinion. You may read it and find vile and evil parts and that is your right. My personal interpretation is different and that is basically would religion should be about.

And just because someone gives a reason for something does not mean that that thing is to blame. I could shoot someone and say it was because of my sister. Is she to blame?
-
So I presume you encouraged horror films to be banned in the wake of the Jamie Bulger case? After all, that was the reason given for the atrocities.
-
Huh? Who said?

Some people use the bible as a guide for how to live their lives and some believe every word within it. With regards to your six days, many believe that to not be a literal six days, rather it was easier to use "days" so that it was easier to understand. It could have been millions of years since God is outside of time.

Religion gives people an excuse to start wars. If it didn't exist it would be something else. As I said, with regards to christianity it is the misuse of the religion is the problem. That isn't the religion's fault.
-
I'm not a catholic but I don't argue that all chritianity is wrong because of catholocism.
-
Nope. It is the misinterpretation of Christianity which causes violence and war. I cant speak about other religions because I dont know enough about them all.

Weston, do you believe that 19C's reference to Darren's mum was a cheap shot? And if you don't can you see how it could so easily have been interpreted that way given past posting history?

Should we be offered a referendum on the EU?

It's pathetic that we haven't been given a vote on it. It's the main reason why I'm not voting labour. -
I wish that some people could debate sensibly without insulting the beliefs of others.

Just to make people aware who responded to this thread, my cousin is now responding to the various emails and things. He has been delayed by one or two things (most notably the New York marathon which he took part in as well!) so apologies for the delay but it should all be sorted this evening. Thanks again

I just dislike the implication that everyone on here is too idiotic to realise that a youngster from the non league is not a shoe-in for the first team. I would have thought that was pretty flipping obvious. To people who don't believe that, well I don't believe it's even worth debating and pointing out something so amazingly obvious.

I totally agree. Maybe I dose of religion would calm their aggression somewhat.
