The 'Heads up' Bulletin from Key Racing News
Market Pointers
Early market pointers
Pricewise: 3.20 Newmarket, Gene Autry (1pt win @ 12/1 generally) & Swilly Ferry (1pt win @ 20/1 with Boylesports or Ladbrokes)
G Delamere: 3.20 Newmarket, Walk On Water. 3.30 Haydock, Lord Shanakill
BR-Trends: 3.20 Newmarket, Pastoral Player. 3.30 Haydock, Lord Shanakill.
Ladbrokes: None specifically - were joint or 2nd lowest on Gene Autry & Free For All at Newmarket. Also taking a slightly cautious view about Lovelace & Dream Eater at Haydock
Eye-catchers
Eye-catchers with entries today, flagged up by respected sources over the past few weeks
King Of Jazz (IRE), 4:30 Newmarket
Ken Pitterson 19/5/10 - performed well above his paddock appearance on debut (looked short of peak fitness) yet nearly got the job done in decent Newbury maiden and should be hard to beat NTO in similar company.
Polish World (USA), 4:50 Beverley
H Taylor 28/4/10 - 1st run for Paul Midgely, looks well handicapped, ran well for seasonal reappearance, 1 mile looks OK, ran all the way to the line, could improve nicely for that and be well ahead of mark. Races to be won.
Main Aim, 3:30 Haydock
K Pitterson 19/5/10 - looked fantastic in the paddock at York, but shaped as if just needing the run finding a 2nd wind and running on. Likely to be spot on NTO.
Bow To No One (IRE), 4:45 Haydock
H Taylor 12/5/10 - excellent reappearance, was progressive last term, looks in very good form and likely to have another good season. 14-16fl ideal.
Gallops, yards & connections
Ad hoc information from the Newmarket gallops, TV, websites, Twitter blogs, the racing press and beyond
Notable last week on the Newmarket gallops:
H R A Cecil, Rodrigo De Torres (E Ahern) – worked best last Saturday of a trio that included Corporal Maddox (I Mongan) & Kings Bayonet (J Quinn). Corporal Maddox was noted working well the week prior, pulling clear of his lead.
----------------------------------------
Richard Hannon, Gene Autry "He has a definite chance in what looks a competitive sprint. He’s dropping in trip but he’s not short of speed".
Hughie Morrison, Pastoral Player "He loves fast ground and hopefully they will not have too much rain. With a better draw he would have won on his return and he certainly has ability".
Charlie Hills, Swilly Ferry "He was not quite himself last time but looks to be in much better form now and we have to be hopeful."
James Fanshawe, Bagamoyo "We could do with a drop of rain. We were happy with his reappearance and he’s in good heart."
Teddy Grimthorpe, Main Aim "He ran on really well at York...he won this race last year and hopefully he can put in another strong performance"
Mark Gittins, Lord Shanakill "He had a good blow after the Lockinge and has come on a ton for it. He can do 6 furlongs, but I’d say he’s a 7fl horse."
David Nicholls, Lovelace "He’s run twice for us and won both times, this is his biggest test. It will be interesting to see how he gets on. He’s in grand form."
William Haggas, High Standing "6fl would be ideal. A drop of rain would be OK, but I’ll be disappointed if the ground gets soft."
David Elsworth, Barshiba "She’s in good form and looks to have a winning chance. The next stop will be Royal Ascot, win lose or draw."
Kevin Ryan, Les Fazzani "She’s in good form. I was pleased with her at Chester and expect another big run."
Charles O’Brien, Bewitched "She’s in good form and has come on for her last run. The less rain they have the happier I’ll be."
William Haggas, Quarrel "We’ve always planned to come here as a stepping stone to Royal Ascot. He’ll come on a bit for the race. I’ve got him pretty fit and I’m hopeful of a decent run"
Richard Hannon, Angel’s Pursuit "He has to have a great chance of following up. Hughsie insists he’s an out-and-out sprinter, and if he’s right he’s the one to beat here."
Miscellaneous
Other in-form or improving runners from the in-house Key Racing News database
Green Moon (IRE), 2:15 Newmarket
KRN - Promise at 2 and much improved this spring, following maiden win with impressive all-the-way success in hot Newbury handicap. May prove the value shot with the possibility that Alrasm may be slightly flattered by form gained at Chester and less effective on fast ground.
Ransom Note, 2:45 Newmarket
KRN - The Hills team are excited about this progressive type who has evidently wintered very well and won going away on reappearance with a powerful run. Up 9lbs for that but looks capable of accepting that rise and of finding more improvement.
Gene Autry (USA), 3:20 Newmarket
KRN - In need of the run first time up and asked too big a question at Haydock when suffering interference, the drop back in trip poses no problems and extra stamina on tap is never a bad quality to have in a large Cl2 sprint handicap at HQ.
Early Applause (IRE), 4:30 Newmarket
KRN - King Of Jazz is expected to be difficult to beat, but one option is Barry Hills’ Early Applause who has come on very well for his debut in a hot Newmarket Conditions race that appeared to come too soon.
Trends Report: Timeform Jury Stakes
Key: SP of 11/2 or less (13/15), ran at a G1 venue LTO (14/15). Main Aim & Lord Shanakill are the basic qualifiers and both would be good candidates. Favourites are 4/15 but have taken it the last twice. The value, however, tends to rest with the 2nd or 3rd favourite (9/15 +£12.66, +40.8 ROI) and in a tight contest it is probably best to take whichever qualifier trades at the higher price.
