Agreed that our build up play through the first two thirds, where a 6 is influential, was not at its usual high standard but we were also below par in the final third; can’t remember us looking that poor up top for a while. The performance worried me but given what we’ve seen since October up to Huddersfield I’d back the team to bounce back.

I’m not certain that had Downes played on Tuesday that all would’ve been well. He’s clearly a top player for us but so many of those that started and came on were off their game. No doubt the staff know of many formations that they could switch to but for me we gave the ball away too easily in situations you’d expect us to retain control, that was apparent all over the pitch.

Hinshelwood was forced on RDZ, he literally had no other options but to give him a chance, I'm fairly certain he's playing out of position at RB too, fair play to him though he's been good for them.

As much as what you say is correct, Southampton are a very different prospect now compared to when KD got injured. Recent games have shown us and KD that the youngsters will be given a chance if they are good enough, the game is suitable and they are fit.

Only a moron would blame the fans for not giving Jones a chance, he had 6 fucking weeks in the mid season break to turn things around, with a settled squad, with enough quality in it (I get that's debatable) to compete, fight and play for the club. He did get some good results but then there was Forest, one of the lowest points of watching and supporting Saints, as poor a performance as I can remember. With hindsight, I'm ok with the shit we observed last season. When something is clearly broken and patching it up isn't working then you may as well destroy it and start again, both on and off the field.
