As Charlie said, difficult to compare managers of different era's like for like and success is all relative to where you find yourself. When I think about what Adkins has done for us, I still find it staggering that there is a section of support who have never really taken to Adkins and still to this day find ways to try and undermind his achievements. The classic is writing off the league 1 promotion as something anyone could have done. However, Pardew struggled for consistency in the league and our period under Wilkins showed that we were very much beatable. To come in when he did and take us on the run he did is an outstanding achievement in my book and wouldn't have just happened like others like to allude to. If anyone ever said they envisaged us then following it up with promotion straight to the prem whilst staying in the top 2 of the Championship all season, they would be lying. He's a legend in my eyes. Yes we spent money along the way (we needed to) but under different circumstances and a different manager, we could very easily be quite some way from the premier league.

Pap, I've seen you call people troll before, you clearly have the ability to decide for yourself without the help of the mods. Not I'm not fragile at all, but as a tenured member of the forum it becomes tiresome reading the same arguments over and over and over, particularly on threads which would have been otherwise interesting. Add in the fact that Alpine seemingly posts in a way to get a reaction, I would argue is doesn't add to the forum at all. If no one likes a grass, maybe tell your buddy Alpine that who has been in regular contact with the mods on here over the years. I've never contacted a mod at all and at least my thread was open.

If Alpine deliberately sets out to be a "provocative sh!te" then a couple of comments to that end.... 1) where is the line pap between trolling and deliberately posting in a manner to get a certain reaction? 2) why defend someone who by their own admission and choice sets out to do this? To do it purely on the basis that you don't want to be seen to be bandwagon jumping doesn't make sense to me.

Even more interesting that you're discussing the issue with tdd, who is the only poster who has called Alpine a **** today from what I can see.

It appears that out transfer policy is heavily weighted towards players playing in Italy, at least this transfer window so far. Do the club feel that you can get good players at good value by exploiting a weakening ecomonic system over there or are NC's infamous transfer negotiation techniques only tolerated by some like minded individuals in Serie A?

If you're referring to NickG, he seems like a nice chap and doesn't hurl abuse at anyone who doesn't agree. Don't confuse what I'm writing here as being about an intolerance to other peoples opinions because it isn't about that at all. I'm sure your staunch defence of Alpine is all in relation to your ban on 606 or whatever but also consider my concerns for Alpines health which shouldn't be over looked

Well I would argue he does get personal....ever been accused of being thick, illiterate, poorly educated etc by Alpine? I know I have as have plenty of others. He's just an unpleasant character and doesn't contribute much to the forum other than ill feeling. The mods could take action if they want, it shouldn't have to be about him being racist etc.

Dunno, NickG has at least got some stuff right and has been enjoying the ride over the last few seasons...it's what it's supposed to be about after all. Quiet from the mods it seems. I hope they are taking some time to consider the positive impact this one simple action will have on the forum.

Happy to do so on a personal level, however it would take everyone doing the same in order for it to be successful. Many people have him on ignore yet still have their forum visits tainted by him. If many people believe him to be a troll, the mods should take action IMO.
