Systems do not win football matches. Players do.
malcolm waldron replied to Colinjb's topic in The Saints
Don't want to nit pick but are you American?! Agree with the rest of your post btw. -
Saw this for the first time very early on in the Leicester game (obviously we were already a goal down) and was worried about what it means when mistakes are made. I think there were 3 occasions in that first half when it was Smallbone scrambling back with Mavididi (?) sprinting behind him and luckily managing to get a pass back to Bazunu. We're all seeing this problem so clearly - so why the hell are the players being asked to set up in this suicidal way?

We had one of those in the first half - I think on Tuesday. Fairly sure it was what you're calling 'a break' - when Edozie had the ball in our half with wide open space ahead. I for one was delighted when he promptly stopped, waited and then slowly passed the ball backwards. Why is this? Well there was a high percentage chance he'd have lost the ball in the red zone and thus left us disadvantaged in our against the ball transition phase. The double pivot vs single pivot inverted full backs would then be out of the game leaving the opposition with a clear sight of goal. Hopefully Edozie won't try the 'break' tactic again in matchday 8.......

Martin will simply say "we don't worry about how other teams play, we're only concerned about how we play' won't he?! Kick off will be interesting. If Ipswich win the toss then I know what I'd do - let us kick off with the knowledge that there'll be a strong chance of us conceding a goal within the next 60 seconds. God - I started the season full of positivity, but Friday was so draining. And if Smallbone is the only cover when we have a corner then it's clear we're learnt nothing. QPR cottoned on to this last month, and since then we've conceded at least two from the same approach. Madness..... 3-1 to Saints. 💪

Still 8 hours to go - they'll be back in.

More likely the Dad desperately volunteering to be the one to pick up little Jean-Pierre from Sekou's house after tea.....

Any chance you could do my driveway - and bring that bottle of Burgundy with you too......?

I thought he was 'finished'......? (That's one for the kids.)

I admire your optimism.....
-
But is he a sick 'baller though.....?

A well thought out and reasoned post, until the sentence highlighted. I was under the impression that we had a large amount of debt (through an MSD loan?) a massive reduction in income following relegation, and are facing up to the challenge of recovering transfer fee outgoings wasted during last years crazy dealings. The sales during this window will cover some of the latter - but I'm not sure we're wealthy at all.......

Can anyone let me know if Liverpool have tabled an improved offer on Lavia recently? And how much Sky Sports understands the new offer is....??

I've not seen anything of Manning yet. Don't want to write him off too early but he's not impressed me and I fear we've been mugged off by Swansea here who saw us coming. That money could have been better spent with proven CL or top level Prem experience. Don't get me started on the young lad we've just this minute signed from Man City as he's been equally non-existent.

Exactly - predominantly Northern grounds with the factory smoke still hanging around at 3 pm on a Saturday.
-
Was that in possession, out of possession, or against the ball as i think the hipsters call it these days? And whatever point I'm trying to make (even I'm not sure) we're talking about against Grimsby aren't we?
-
Does anyone know yet if the first game of the season at 8pm kick off on a Friday night is on Sky?

But not as high a ceiling as Adam Armstrong reportedly (or am I mangling the Broja / AA comparison from about 18 months ago??).

My sources are telling me the same thing. You've got to admire the club here for taking bold and decisive action and sacking a manager that's not been appointed yet. Rasmus obviously had his scouts watching RM recently - and can't have been impressed with how for example he got his family to the airport and on to the plane, his communication skills in a second language at check-in when asking for a bigger room with. a sea view (which by the way he'd paid a healthy premium to have when booking last year), and generally how he carried himself poolside and then at the sea food buffet in the evening. Rasmus has taken plenty of flak this year but he's obviously listened and has invented an innovative way of avoiding paying compensation. Coming to a TED talk near you soon.

Did we ever find out what 'Romeo done" meant - or is that one for the kidz?
-
Presumably he'll be bringing both of those two with him then as priority transfer window targets ...?
-
I'm cautiously optimistic about this - given where we are at the moment and the rumours coming out in the last week about backroom disharmony and multiple departures. Odd for people to say 'that's it now, I'm finished' or 'this is an absolute joke' without then providing sensible names (who would join us) who aren't a 'joke' to them. Three non-negotiables for me though: Does he bite his nails so badly he has to cover them in plasters during a game? Does he refer to the team as 'they' after a loss and 'we' after a (rare) win? Does he say "with the greatest respect' before being completely disrespectful? Sorry - and one more - does he wear Stone Island....?

Will season ticket prices be released now and will you renew?
malcolm waldron replied to Paul Chuckle's topic in The Saints
Count yourself lucky as that's a bargain. I missed both the Chelsea and Leicester games, so what's 0/£580?? 😠 -
I think that long diatribe must have come from the Welsh mad man himself. Why would a random 'Luton' fan know much about Livramento, Larios and - above all - Thierry Small?

The anecdotes around Sam Edozie and Juan Larois Southampton transfer
malcolm waldron replied to Turkish's topic in The Saints
Really? I've seen no end product from Edozie sadly - so I've no idea if he's good enough, but I hope he is. Same with Mara - I've no idea if he's good enough to handle 46 games in the Championship and score loads of goals. I liked his assist for KWP against Leeds and his Man City cup goal, but saying we've seen enough is stretching it a bit. Let's hope you're right as they need to step up immediately from that first weekend in August. -
The problem was that it was Mad Nate (or one of his associates) providing that glowing tribute.
