Not sure I've seen anything in our performances to suggest we can though. Can we raise our game above the mediocrity we've seen ? Seems we're paralysed by this be clever slow build up, pass it round and try winning by a war of attrition sending the opposition to sleep. like Saints the possession seems to peter out when we get to the final third.

Might fund him for a week.

Trouble is there is such a bland and uninspiring batch of them now. I'm not sure I even know the names of the BBC main commentators, I know there is one cunt who forever tries desperately to drop a clever poetic reference or witticism in who irritates. From the BBC Jonathan Pearce probably grates my ears less than others, although I may be biased as a) he's been fairly complimentary towards Saints, and b) his voice was a regular feature when children were growing up with a Robot Wars obsession about 20 years ago. That said he can be a bit too much liking the sound of his own voice. Gone are the days of Wolstenholme, Coleman and Brian Moore etc Although Coleman liked throwing in a statistic from time to time, his generation realised that the viewer wanted to see the game, and their commentary was there to ease it along, rather than seeking 'celeb status'. Fed up of listening to their 'matey' in the workplace chat with the' co-commentator' as well.. That's without starting on the panels, all quota driven, in what seems a race to the bottom by the channels.

How long have you been watching Saints ?

Bit of googling after link posted above. If it’s from Serie C then two places recognised are Vincenza (in the Venice region) and Trieste (possibly a ‘fallen giant’ with potential). Both would good for a pre-season piss up around Europe on the way to Goztpe. That is what it’s all about isn’t it ?
-
Don’t mention 1966 and all that.
-
Did FIFA employ a Russian linesman tonight for the Japan game ?
-
Any idea as to who or what division ? Are Goztpe bigger than Juventus?
-
Four years time. Perhaps Trump will be back in the White House. That’d make it entertaining

Clearly pandering to the US market. Just making sure the spectator experience is a fulfilling one and they see a result on the day. Surprised by this. FIFA have short memories. The last time they bollocksed around with group games was 1982 when it was dreadful.

I think Birmingham were the last club to win the league Cup (in whatever name it was at the time) and then be relegated the same season. I'm not sure if they have made it back to the top flight since.

Certainly my favourite GK in the time I've followed Saints (1960's). I know some will shout this down but on their performances for us - as opposed to throughout their career - I'd pick Niemi over Shilton every time.

Isn't this one of NJ's strengths ?

That would probably grab the headlines.

What is the best goal you've ever seen live at a Saints game?

Yes, good recollection. -
Bet the Russian mob from the last World Cup are glad they've been spared from facing this lot

So just to make it feel realistic, England play Germany or Argentina in the QF. Will they get one group of Indian recruits to stand in an 'imaginery beer festival' dressed in lederhosen (or Argie equivalent) to be attacked by another group of Indians singing about RAF bombers or the Falklands?
-
At the time it was described as the New Forest.

Solely FA Cup goals: Gilchrist v Palace (the dream was on... ) Moran at Fratton Bobby Stokes, say no more. (Okay, that's a different kind of best). -

For me it's between two, Channon's v Liverpool (82) as a team goal, and MLT's first v Newcastle (94 I think). Don't think anything else comes close. Realise how privileged I've been to live through a golden age of Saints to have seen those two talents for most of their careers playing for us. Difficult to choose between them, but as much as I loved the Channon goal and never tire of seeing it, I think MLT's edges it remembering the emotions at the time. He was half way inside their half, with two defenders in front of him, but from the moment he controlled the ball you sensed he was going to do something special and make a route to goal. I'm not sure there was any other player in the world at that time that would have inspired such confidence. -
Weren't Liverpool looking to offload his wages ? Although knowing them they'll want £15m for having just had his name associated with them in the last five years. Have to wonder if he'd fit in with the NJ model of player.. or if he'll be parachuted in by those above (like Walcott).
-
Think he's on a free at the end of the season. Anyway with his track record, you'd hope any contract is linked to availability to play. (Doubt he'd be up for that though).

I received this the other day. Worth a listen from 1min 20.
