    Will Still

I’ll reserve judgment on Still, await a few results and performances rather than a few friendlies and interviews with local media. As LGTL says the acid test has yet to come. But in fairness to him I think he’s been at the club nearly two months and in that time hasn’t told us what he eats or how he votes. For that alone I can start warming to him.
  2. Another option that was once considered by the club but all went quiet was the option of an Away ST. Not fully explained what it was or explored, I assume it might have been a glorified or enhanced membership to get priority on away tickets.
  3. I missed out on Northampton but am not moaning about the system. But how would the ballot work for a family group ? When we go to away games it’s usually three of us, so your ballot system would need all three to be selected presumably. Bollocks to that.
  4. I fully accept he settled the squad well on arrival, overcoming the ‘scar tissue’ etc. If he wasn’t such an arrogant bellend his time with us might be remembered more fondly.
  5. Agree. I’d be pleased to see Charles reach his potential with us. Keep Fernandes and he alone would probably see us have the outstanding MF in the Championship. And then there’s Smallbone of course …
  6. Saints Marching seems to contain a lot of bullshit, and it’s dreadfully written bullshit at that. IF true though, it’d be a bit concerning that we go from having a definite target in mind (attacking MF) to then sign a DM ( if that’s instead of rather than as well as). It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve sign a drop off in quality having lost our first target and ending up with a different kind of player ( ie Maddison to Elyonoussi, and Sangarre to Diallo). Hoped we’d learnt a lesson.
  7. First thought, is whether this incident involved the German captain, Minge.

Clearly it’s the Ginger factor at play
  9. Was hoping the lego football was a thing of the past.
  10. FFS, no ! One of our worst home kits ever in my view. Even worse that it was our centenary season. What were they thinking ? Easy option to delve back to the past for the sash, halves or quarters, then they come up with that mess.
  11. Think we had a three team tournament of 45 minute matches, with Bilbao and Werder Bremen once (2012 or 13, thereabouts) at St Mary’s.
  12. Talk of potential, he’s 27 soon, not an age where you’d sign as one for the future. One for Goztepe perhaps. (Perhaps there’s an aspect of your post I’ve missed. Apologies if so).
  13. Have to wonder how we dredge some of them up. We went from chasing James Madison to Elyonoussi in one transfer window. We’re now it seems going from an Armenian bloke, who someone suggests is now being courted by PSG, to this character - out of contract is he ?- from a Portuguese club we’ve never heard of.
  14. Whether he is a good signing for them hinges on the David Connolly factor “ if he can stay fit …”
  15. Absolute nonsense of a tournament, and it seems a pretty hollow success for Chelsea - leaving aside the $ won of course - as it means fuck all to most fans. The whole thing is a Watneys/Texaco Cup type tournamnent designed for billionaire owned clubs in the 21st Century for a global tv audience. In truth the Watneys/Texaco Cups meant more to the real fans of the clubs taking part at the time. No doubt Chelsea and their players will be crying about too may games towards the end of next season. I consider myself fortunate to have lived trough a bit of a golden era of football 1960's - 80's , before it started on the slippery slope to what it has now become.
  16. Our scouts obviously see him as an ideal player for us then. Can see why.
  17. By that time we’ll be outside the transfer window. Some decisions have to be made sooner.
  18. Shame as they were impressive the other night.
  19. Sanda and Quarshie are the great unknowns, but if they show signs of being capable at this level then I’d be quite happy to see Wood out on loan (as well as Bednarek and ABK being shifted). Am hoping we keep Edwards as proven in the Championship already.
  20. Agree with this. It’s pointless making comparisons with the mens game. I don’t watch a lot of the woman’s football, and in truth don’t watch a lot of the mens, except Saints or a team I’ve got an interest in. When I have seen the England womens team I was surprised by some of the tackles going in, and in fairness they seem to put their all into it (contrast Rooney coming off the field for England criticising supporters). The coverage pisses me off, but that is the same for the blokes game, and a reflection on the media rather than anything else. We can say the standard isn’t the same, especially goalkeeping. But we’re used to substandard GK’s at Saints anyway.
  21. Must admit the prospect of ‘badgering’ one or two of the refs/assistant refs would have greatly appealed to me in my much younger days. Agree with many of the points you make.
  22. Earlier posts on here suggested that some Armenian bloke (playing in Russia) had been the target but he wasn’t interested. No idea who next on the list might be. Perhaps we’ve identified an even more obscure target that no one has heard of (that does seem the Saints way).

    Diogo Jota

Up to now I’ve thought things have been handled well, and respect and dignity shown. This sort of nonsense tends to trivialise the loss in my eyes: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cpqnwpxle79o ‘Retiring’ shirt numbers. Could understand West Ham doing it for Bobby Moore years ago (1993 when it had barely been heard of before) but it’s become a bit trite now. I expect our commercial dept are waiting for the chance to ‘retire’ a number to join the trend. Load of bollocks.

    Diogo Jota

Not necessarily. I had dealings with a Commercial Director at an EPL club a few years ago who said that cost of insurances were so high that many clubs preferred to carry the risk themselves.
  25. Interesting. Whether he can impose that regime and system here remains to be seen. This is likely to prove critical, and define his time and success or otherwise with us.
