Has Spoors been taken in by another fraud of a manager ?
Badger replied to Andrew Watson's topic in The Saints
In answer to the question from the title, you’d have expected an experienced DoF (or whatever the title) to be able to separate the wheat from the chaff in the selection process. That’s the purpose of his position and why Dragan pays him ( and his team that he spent a couple of months putting together). Has Spors been taken in, well he certainly saw something in Still that very few others did. Or he just wanted to make an appointment, any appointment, then having ticked that box move on to player recruitment. Next line to this: has Dragan been taken in by another charlatan whose CV lists several high profile clubs to impress (but doesn’t stay very long - food for thought ?- at any )and talks a good game. Worried ? More pissed off with the inevitability of it.- 29 replies

I was looking forward to Edwards this season after his time at QPR. Agree he struggled a bit v Moore in the Wrexham game, but that’s what having an experienced striker at this level brings you. My only concern witn Edwards is who he’s paired with and how he copes having to compensate for their deficiencies. Neither Jack or THB are real leaders at CB. Think there is still mileage with Edwards but he needs the opportunity. Anfield perhaps?

When you think of how much we spend on players, specifically gambling on Quarshie and Downes it seems like extremely false economy not paying for a manager (whether that be Rohl or anyone else). Bizarrely though we did have to pay compensation for Jones.

Nick Leeson. Wasn’t he recruited by Rupert Lowe ? Probably the most damaging he ever made if so. At least he didn’t leave his worst appointments until he came tonSaints. Or perhaps he did.
-
Think we should play Bazunu for this one. Just in case he picks up an injury.
-
Do they give them access to £million deals and make financial decisions?
-
The recruitment is one area where you can defend Still on, in that players are recruited by others and he has to work with what he’s given. Same for Ralph, and to a lesser degree Lego although he obviously had an input witn signing his chums. Having said that, Still should be getting a lot more from the amount we’ve spent, and players at his disposal.
-
Wasn’t that two or three seasons later ?
-
This is the sort of bollocks that must have entered Spors and co thinking in their recruitment.

Interesting how people see it differently. Still seems a decent young bloke, and his back story of getting into football was novel perhaps. But he hasn’t really come across that well for me. From his early interviews he’s seemed a reluctant, nervous perhaps (not surprisingly given age), and the whole demeanour has just screamed inexperience (which he is). Feel sorry for him, clearly out of his depth, which was all too predictable. Except for the fuckwits who run the club.

The difference being that Les had , to his credit, been previously associated with some success in his career. (Some low spots as well, eg at Charlton, but he still had a reasonable reputation). Sports Republic just lurch from one clusterfuck to another.

Lampard’s success with Coventry last season is another example of taking a team up the division into play offs, and even promotion from a poor start in the Championship. Others are Cooper and years ago Keane at Sunderland. Shows it can be done. But depends on doing it in good time, and making the right appointment. Therein perhaps lies the flaw in the plan. Over to SR.

How has Dragan been successful in business? He seems to be a magnet for egotists, duds, dunces, and total retards in his time at Saints
-
Could be the next interim manager, and possible permanent with SR in charge (I agree with you btw)

I was shouted down for making a comment about hoping he wasn’t Mara Mk II earlier in the season. Perhaps not so wide of the mark.
-
I think Trollope managed in L1. Perhaps that offers some consolation and comfort.
-
Or a part time job with the recruitment team
-
Credit where it’s due, I thought he played the media quite well last week. Even taking into account he was making sounds to appeal to the skate audience ( and I didn’t agree with him on some of what he said).

Good question. Which leads me to wonder “how many Sports Republic management structure does it need to change a lightbulb?”. I’ve calculated 8 although may have missed someone Presumably: Dragan to pay for it. Spors, Lederer and a software bloke formerly of Barclays Bank , to scour the market for the best one available, probably a prototype that’s still in the early stages of development and not widely known to the rest of the market. A technician to give it a check up, but if it doesn’t work now it’s not an issue as it may be okay in about two years, even if it doesn’t shine as brightly ever again Then, another one, the person to implement it functioning , if it was Martin he’d make sure it was a eco friendly, or Still to check how it would function on FM or his X-box. And he’d be assisted in this pursuit by a bloke from Luton, because they’ve dealt with light bulbs before. And Nivea, because he’s there.

Someone daft enough to pay in excess of £200m I’d have thought

The reset needs a reset.

This is a comment I posted 20th May on the ‘who do you want as manager’ thread (now locked). No idea how to post a quote from it but here’s a screenshot (of one I made earlier as they used to say) Appointment was another huge gamble, which many accepted on the back of the French journalists talk on Solent and his tactics talk with Carragher.

Carrick was supposedly high on the Rasmus list a couple of years ago (before we appointed Lego). Although we’re told Rasmus is hands off. Rohl would have been my choice in the summer, although he didn’t do himself any favours with his interviews etc at the end of last season and summer.
-
Has already gone somewhere.

Go back to early in this and the who do you want thread ? Think you’ll be surprised how many were taken in, especially after the French journalists bit on Solent
