I’m really impressed how he keeps a lid on his emotions in interviews and more so on the touchline. Especially when you consider he’s only 33. Look at his reaction to one of the goals on tv. Then remember how Ralph and I think Koeman once went charging down the touchline. ( And I was a big fan of both).

It’s a strange debate for LB, in my book they’re equally good, and equally bad. I’ve not seen the attraction for Wellington that others do (and for some the main thing is that he isn’t Manning) but Manning shades it for me.

Everton, spurs ??

The Solent comment I heard was based on an interview with Manning

Sounds good. Surprised it hasn’t made it onto a T shirt. Probably not in good taste for the club shop though

56 years for me and agree with this. Easily one of - if not - the best at St Mary’s. The Dell had quite a few over the years, but these were usually seen through a child’s eyes until 17 then a blur of alcohol. The great escape years had a few and some good ones in the 70’s and 80’s

Of course he was. But what do you expect when Marcus Liebherr had been a commander in an SS tank division during the war ? Pretty impressive as he wasn’t born at the time. Another Great Portsmyth from one of the websites.

Heard on Solent in the car back that he is.

Far preferable. I hope I’m still around in 2035 for the sash return for our 150th year. OldCunt#

I'm in the category, didn't like it at the time but thought it fine on the repeat. Main difference from recollection is that the original appeared a lighter shade, and red and pink from a distance. The recent one was a darker shade. Or perhaps my memory is playing tricks on me.

One of our worst home kits definitely, agree that 85-87 was worse. Of all our kits nothing is worse than the ridiculous away abomination from 2022/3
-
Since when has making players available been optional ? Apart from when it's a 'Big 6 ' club of course.
-
That'll go down well with some of their traditional fanbase

Yes, the 'arry interviews will soon turn to 'they, them...' rather than anything to do with " I , or we.."

Saints Legends v Man Utd Legends - 28 March
Badger replied to Football Special's topic in The Saints
Probably the first time some of them have seen Man Utd play live -
FA Cup final sandwiched between play offs semis and final to keep the momentum going. Bollocks ! May could be an expensive month.

Not a ‘best’ goal (and doesn’t compare with Channon’s team goal, or MLT v Newcastle) but certainly in the next band and as good as some others mentioned. Paul Gilchrist v West Brom in the 1976 Cup Replay, after about 60 seconds, he volleyed the ball over his head for a great start. It was definitely a “how did he do that ?” moment. There didn’t seem anything on as the ball came to him, goal over his shoulder, and surrounded by defenders. I did find footage of it a while ago and posted it on here. I think the goal has been overlooked partly due to the lack of footage, but also the fact Gilchrist’s name immediately conjures memory of his goal in the SF, and his performance v WBA was eclipsed by a Channon hat trick.

A great game, and two moments that will always live in my memory as well. Agree about the KK ‘goal’ , easily on a par with any from the MLT archives.

On a purely Saints unpopular opinion: for me yellow shirts, and blue shorts as an away kit has been done to death. I was there in 1976 so know fully the significance of the strip and loved it for a couple of years, but it seems tired now.
-
Not sure this is popular or unpopular but one of my biggest gripes for some seasons now (probably since Boruc at Arsenal) is that GK’s shouldn’t be pissing around with the ball at their feet. But that doesn’t “align” with the football philosophies.Seeing Gunn dispossessed v Huddersfield underlined it for me, then of course 18months of Martin. Allied to this GK’s wandering upfield is another one that drives me up the wall. Peretz seems keen to do this. Hope it isn’t too costly when the inevitable happens.

Thought it a good match to try that option and rest others but Archer didn’t do anything to give confidence that we should repeat it against better opposition.

Sometimes think it’s in their DNA from the Don Howe days of their double winning team early 1970’s

And they gave us Adam Armstrong

I said last night it wouldn’t surprise me if he suddenly emerged back at Fratton Park … “ proper football club* …. tremendous working class fans …” load of nauseating bollocks. Hope spurs appoint him first … although he was giving his usual “I’ve not heard from them, but they know where I am… yeh, I’d take it if offered” routine when asked about the spurs job at Cheltenham festival last week. * “proper football club” - let’s remember who Arry said that about in December 2004

Agree with this, has certainly surpassed expectations ( although he did that by scoring a single goal in his first appearance). Seems a bit cumbersome at times but holds it up well, and is a handful for some defenders.
