  1. It wasn’t called the academy at the time, but those I remember coming through the ranks and being regular starters for half a season or so are Steve Middleton (1975, then displaced by Ian Turner), and Gerry Gurr in the late 1960’s (whose career I think was buggered by injury before Eric Martin took over)
  2. He’ll probably give an interview with a sulk or comment that the board can take exception to at some point.
  3. Still wouldn’t be the biggest cunt from Leicester they’ve had on there.
  4. There are 46 games in the league, but that isn’t enough to place and reward the teams in some order of merit. So have a qualifying match, plus possibly a home and away semi-final (three more matches). Add a final at Wembley, and that’s a total of 50 matches to decide the last promotion place. No longer a league but the longest running cup competition out there.
  5. Killing the golden goose springs to mind
  6. Many familiar comments on Foxestalk, despairing with trying to play 5at the back. Other familiar themes - manager clueless, nods still clapping the team off, owners need to go. Weren’t these the same owners that saw them win the league about 10 years ago ?
  7. What a bizarre, and upside down world we now live in. Three or more chumps or cyber anoraks don’t attend the match but watch it presumably online and link up to discuss it. And others log in to watch them. !!
  8. From the highlights he looked to be playing CF for a bit.
  9. Brilliant. Thanks for posting that.
  10. 3 up and losing the match. I remember that Leeds fiasco, but nothing comes close to Tranmere (was it 2001 ?). Tgat still hurts. Nice to turn it round ourselves tonight.
  11. Some good points but most would have accepted things at 3-3 after the first half calamity. At 3-3 I think Tonda could walk away from it satisfied. Totalky agree about Archer though. Shouldn’t be involved near the team
  12. Just in case no one else has made the point: who’s laughing now Roy Cropper you old cunt ???
  13. the only player I directed abuse at was Archer. Stand by that. Absurd to start him, but Tonda got it right second half. Another three points he’s won us. Onwards and upwards.
  14. But we did appoint Will Still in good time for the new season. ( So I’ve been reliably informed on here.). SR recruitment and decision making at its best. An appalling selection that set the tone.

    Tonda Eckert

Have been hoping things would fall into place for Tonda especially going to a back four, new GK, and a CF. But as much as I want him to succeed the selection of Archer is inexcusable.
  16. No justification for starting with that useless cunt. Especially after Saturday and what we thought was a realisation that short arse strikers don’t work. One of our worst and most ridiculous striker signings.
  17. Some fair points SOG raises re level of fitness and player’s roles. Disagree about full backs though, David Peach and Ivan Golac were often playing advanced positions. Wingers, yes, could be lazy fuckers. I know which era was generally more entertaining and exciting to watch though even if it is seen through sepia tinted specs with a dose of nostalgia thrown in.
  18. Or just puts the cones out better ? But credit where it’s due if his arrival and contribution has aided an upturn in results.
  19. 1980: Boxing Day - Spurs away 4-4 Dec 27th Leicester home won 3-1. Not too much rotation. And only one substitute,so no bringing 3 of them off at 65 minutes. Most players involved in both as I recall. Several probably got pissed when they got back from Spurs as well. Then there was 1978: Sat - League Cup final Monday - Arsenal FA Cup at home 1-1 Weds/Thursday Arsenal - replay (lost) Sat - played some other bastards I suspect but can’t look it up at the minute
  20. As did Peter Shilton at The Dell, and Mark Crossley for Sheff Weds once. Wonder if conceding three goals from opponents GKs is a record.
  21. Watford trying to compete with us and West Brom for the most ludicrous and out of depth appointment of the season. The Still brothers could well occupy two of the three worst appointments. WBA certainly taking the other place as things stand.
  22. Wonder how the current generation of players and coaches would have coped in the old days with three games in four days over Easter. Wenger, Klopp and Pep would shit themselves at that prospect.
  23. Yes, Lambert, an outstanding late developer. Or at the other end of the spectrum of dramatic subs though we have Jonno Quick. By the end of the season we’ll know if this was Larin’s ‘Lambert’ or ‘Jonno Quick’ moment of glory.
  24. Far too sensible a post. But if he comes on and does this a few times we won’t be complaining.
  25. The euphoria might have died down a little by 09:40 on Sunday, but you probably still had your red and white striped glasses on. Agree with much of what you say, but a bit premature as well. Great goal, a CF to attack the ball like that is something we’ve missed for years. And he did use his size to good effect on occasion as well. The one description I’d disagree with is to say he looked ‘mobile’. The main concern for me was that he looked a bit heavy footed and pretty immobile if anything . Hopefully that’s just being rusty and he’ll get up to speed. But credit to the bloke for taking the opportunity and making the impact as he did. Can’t take that away from him, or Tonda for effective use of the subs.
