Let’s not forget famous cameo roles taken by former staff: Les Reed as Arthur Daley, before that playing Fred Gee in Coronation St (Google it)! Also auditioned for Albert Steptoe Who can forget Ross Wilson as ‘wee Jimmy Krankie’ ?

Two of the best ever Saints pundits on our screens over the years are not surprisingly two of our greatest legends, Channon and Lawrie. Mick was part of the ITV panel for a few years, and prominent in the 1986 World Cup where he always offered a forthright opinion. He also coined the name “ Line-acre” for England’s new goal scoring hero. Not sure he featured much after that, perhaps he wasn’t fashionable enough for the next World Cup. Lawrie was a feature with BBC for a number of years. At one time there seemed an ongoing friction between him and Jimmy Hill. Think it was during the 1980 Euros where Hill was wearing a hooped top, and Lawrie a fairly bold checked shirt. Lawrie made some comment about Hill’s shirt and that there was no need for the viewers at home to adjust there ‘horizontal hold’ .Jim the Chin was clearly riled by this and shot back with “well at least the viewers won’t think I’m dressed for a barn dance !”.

I was once told that the club knew of him and his potential but there was a feeling he would bring some disciplinary problems on and off the pitch so they gave it a miss. No idea if true, and can’t recall the persons claim to being itk (this was nearly three decades before “itk” status was thought of).

Think he also does the ‘Own Goal of The Month’ segment on MOTD

Hummel already producing an ideal Saints shirt for Dutch side FC Emmen. Not sure on their proposed shirt sponsor at one stage, but at least the company existed unlike our former sponsors. https://en.as.com/en/2020/09/25/football/1601061822_063964.html

Hummell would be a decent manufacturer though.

Agree that season after season the mock ups on here and the internet are usually superior to the one eventually served up by UA and the club. Left wondering what sort of retard is charged with designing and selecting the kits. Wasn't a great fan of the Danish Pyjama kit above at the time, from a distance on the terraces at The Dell it often appeared we wewre wearing red and pink halves. Would be improved without the stripes on the white half in my view. Anyway, Keegan era again for me given the choice (which we won't be of course).

He wasn't even average for a long spell. I'm not confident with him but we've seen several players come back in and recover from previous horrendous form having been 'written off' by most on here (Stephens - last season-, Vestergaard, Romeu, and years ago Puncheon) so lets just hope FF adds to that list.* *not counting chickens though...

Expect Klopp is writing out his moan and rant on the subject in case it affects them

Just seen that he has died. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55501754 I remember he was very gracious in defeat in 1976. Was certainly one of the "characters" in the 1960's and 70's. RIP.

Countess Mountbatten, certainly a worthy cause. Gave great care to one of my relatives in the latter stages of his life.
-
Isn't Redmond also a doubt ?
-
Seem to remember 'The Drummond' appearing on a Saints flag at away games in the 1980's.
-
Redmond has largely lived up to my expectations of him to be honest, I thought he was an average player at best before his arrival. Although he excelled for us the season he won Player of the Season he has now reverted to type, bit of speed but too often runs into blind alleys and does a stop-turn that Fabrice Fernandes would be proud of.

Realisation perhaps that the move to a bigger and more glamorous (London) club that he might have hankered after a couple of years ago has now passed him by . And/Or the length of contract is too long. Seems the club in this instance are in a decent bargaining position.

I did manage to find it, but thanks anyway.

Shame on missing out on Maehle, if we do, but not sure on all the names mentioned in the following article. https://www.hitc.com/en-gb/2020/12/22/southampton-reportedly-miss-out-on-long-term-target-serie-a-club-agree-9m-deal/ (Couldn't edit above post, what became of the edit button?)

Always struck me as a indentikit manager for a successful Arsenal. Seem to recall he even has a bit of a George Graham look about him.
-
I'd have though Pochetino would be higher up their list.
-
Not seen any rumours linking FF with a move away, where have you seen that ?
-
Sort of match he'll raise his game for against the 'glamour' sides but then resort to type and be a lazy half arsed bastard for the rest of the season.
-
Didn't realise somwhere in Tuscany was twinned with Liverpool.
-
And how was that brought about again ?

Were Puel or Branfoot, "dislikeable" as individuals though ? Puel may have served up some turgid football, was unconvincing during interviews and possibly out of his depth, but I can't say I disliked the bloke. In defence of Branfoot he would face up to his critics and didn't shy away from the fans continuing to walk 'the touchline' despite the abuse. Understandably his tactics and treatment of MLT incurred the wrath of fans. One final point on Branfoot which should be acknowledged by Saints fans in that despite the abuse etc he still had the good grace to agree writing a tribute to MLT in his testimonial programme as one of his managers, whereas one ignored the request - Mr Hoddle. Redknapp and Dennis Wise on the other hand were pretty difficult to take to whist at Saints, ditto Hughes.
