  1. So can they expunge the penalty and last couple of goals as well then ? And bring back transportation so Mike Dean only officiates an Aussie Rules match in future ?
  2. Possibly true, possibly not. May not have helped the situation though as given the ego driven twat Dean is his response was probably “ I gave as a penalty, it is a penalty and just to prove it I’m gonna send the cunt off as well...”.
  3. In fairness my phone has been fairly quiet, and my work colleagues have allowed me to grieve in private. Perhaps an advantage of working from home in the lockdown, or maybe it’s just pity. Worse was the Tranmere debacle under Hoddle when I received texts from people I didn’t realise I knew or had lost contact with. As for Newcastle I don’t think they’ve won in their last five home games. Bet they can’t believe their luck in the fixtures playing us next.
  4. Leeds c 1971 was the stand out humiliation at the time which was broadcast to the nation on MOTD at a time only two matches were shown to the country that night. Remember Barry Davies wanking lyrical over that match in his commentary. Available on YouTube for any sado-masochists. Leeds certainly a most dislikable club at the time. Everton away about the same time was an 8-0. At least no one can accuse us of being glory seekers.
  5. Down to the bare bones. Who was it that used to say that ?
  6. Skates signing his team mate Lee Gwon (five year deal).
  7. Rather like Dzecko I believe he burnt his bridges at Roma. Bad attitude.
  8. Fit in straight away then.
  9. See Dune making some sympathetic responses on that thread. What became of him, or put it another way, why did he get banned ?
  10. If it's true that Maitalnd Niles has a choice of Saints or WBA you'd think it was a foregone conclusion. Unless of course Fat Sam is able to offer a few incentives.
  11. Reasonable article but doesn’t really reveal anything new, just gives it a bit of a Les tinted rosy glow. the appointment of Koeman wasn’t an inspired bit of business that Reed had identified him and brought him here against the odds. More a case - by his own admission later on - that Koeman just happened to be available and was the glaringly obvious stand out candidate with a name that would lift the club. Just a shame other similar candidates weren’t available for Les to stumble on in his next two or three appointments. Doesn’t answer about RK leaving and contrary to this piece it’s been widely rumoured that there was a rift between them. Offering Koeman an increased salary would have been a better deal than the recruitment and severance paid to the next two, let alone three managers after RK if you include Hughes. No mention of the Toby fiasco, and Les’s part in it, including his “relaxed about it” interviews. Or his part in offering Forster a deal to help cripple us financially. Reed deserves credit for his role in the early Liebherr years, but for me he was promoted beyond his capabilities and became guilty of believing his own publicity. Thanks Bunsen for your part in our rise and almost fall again.
  12. One article I read said ANM wants to play more in midfield rather than defence.
  13. I think that was his debut, and he scored with his first or second touch.
  14. Pre-season friendly 1969 beating Dundee 5-0. Following weekend for the first league game. Home to West Brom. Was expecting something from Saints after the previous week, as a child you assume it would be like that regularly. Soon realised. Lost 2-0. Pissed with rain throughout the match and on the way home. Week or so after Saints beat ManUtd at Old Trafford 4-1, with Ron Davies scoring all four. Didn't go to the game and could barely believe the score when told. Further emphasised that following Saints would be a roller coaster. Thought that was longstanding, but well done to those who followed from earlier in the 60's and before.
  15. Think she spoke once at one of the club's Q&A sessions as an introduction. Credit to her for the attempt but it certainly sounded as if still in the beginners stage, contrary to reports when the Gao's first arrived and suggestion was that was proficient in English.
  16. Agree to some extent, although I think the myth is that we have an ongoing conveyer belt of youthful talent coming through rather than giving them the opportunity. In 2014 the media likened us to Ajax, and of course Les lapped it up. Truth is we haven't got the track record they have for season after season providing a crop of outstanding players. Since the 2012-14 crop of Lallana (when sold), Shaw, Chambers, JWP all breaking through at about the same time it's been pretty lean. Not a case of not giving them the chance, just that the standard hasn't been up to it.
  17. Memorable day out.
  18. Out of interest at what age do we think a young prospect should be breaking into the team ? I think many of our better ones have been on the fringes on the squad at 19 or thereabouts. I was surprised to read that N’Lundulu is 21 as he’s been talked about for a couple of years.
  19. Reports on the BBC gossip column a few weeks ago said a couple of clubs were interested (Real Betis from recollection). Clearly wants a chance somewhere but he is 4th choice for CM at best. Shame we didn’t progress in the League Cup as that might have given him some opportunities.
  20. A name that sticks out with his style of posting was Oakley. Often starting his posts with “Oakley thinks ... “
  21. Very sad news to read this. John Mortimore was a great servant to Saints who I think was assistant to Ted Bates late 60s/early 70s from recollection before going abroad at a time very few British players did never mind managers or coaches. I think he was the manager of Portsmouth who signed Ron Davies for them. Someone said to me by at one stage in the early-mid 1980’s that he was the ‘brains’ behind part of Lawrie’s success after the name players (Ball, Keegan & Channon) had left, and that the sweeper system with Agboola was largely his inspiration. It was a shame in 1985 when Lawrie left for Sunderland that Mortimore wasn’t an option. Think he said in an interview that he’d have been interested but had already accepted the post at Benfica. Another sad loss of someone who contributed a great deal to Saints, RIP.
  22. A good coach/manager but one who seemingly has a track record of falling out with every club he's been at.
  23. Didn't see that so can't comment but in her defence I've read some of her comments on the BBC Live Text during our matches and have been reasonably impressed taht sh'e provided reasonable summaries of our games, and Saints. She seems to have a better grasp than Danny Murphy for example.
  24. Not even Scott Marshall managed that in a single game for us. Seem to remember he might have played in the Youth match where we beat them 7-0. Which is surprising because I thought I read that Whatmough was meant to be the greatest next biggest thing to come from their famed yoof academy. In fairness though just as we can't expect all our youth products to live up to the standards of Shearer, Bale, MLT, Theo, Oxlade-Chamberlaim, JWP, not all Pompey's are going to reach the dizzy heights of being another Jed Wallace either.
