Local radio is provided to locals a part of the TV license but there is no way they can broadcast all local radio stations to all license holders. I think it is a very good service, and living outside of the normal coverage I depend on it for away game commentary.

well if you live in broadcast range of the normal BBC Solent airwaves then don't pay. If, like me you live outside the normal BBC SOlent coverage it is fine. And at about the price of a pint per month, well worth it.
