  1. With hindsight probably this valuation is too low bearing in mind continually inflated transfer figures, so willing to take the flak. However as I assumed we reportedly paid a relatively low £5m to buy him last year, his wages are fairly high and he has had another lengthy injury, I assumed there might not be too many clubs willing to take a risk. Hopefully you will forgive me for my poor assessment. As a regular at the Dell and SMS for well over 50 years time does take its toll and, of course, I have no idea how Football Manager and all the modern tools of the trade work. Best wishes.
  2. Appreciate any info on car parking at SMG for away games? I guess there will be a lot of demand and wonder if it is possible to book. Is it £5.00 for the day?
  3. According to a reliable source his fee was: Euros £17.5m (approx. £15m) plus Euros 200k after 10/30/40/50/75 appearances = Euro 1 mill Euros 500k after 12/20/30/40 goals = Euro 2 mill So at his current strike rate Les and Claude will be instructing teammates not to pass to him before the end of the season However if Manolo is as prolific as we all would hope his transfer fee could end up at around £17.5m
  4. Assuming we stay up (and much more confident after yesterday) then (assuming contract terms/wages etc etc): Keepers: Forster/Hassen/McCarthy (Taylor free) Right Back: Cedric/Piet (Martina £500k?)] Left Back[/b] Bertrand/McQueen (Targett £3m) Defensive Midfielders Romeu Big/Athletic b**ggar (£15m) Central Defence New CD (£15m?)/Stephens VVD (hopefully)/Yoshida (Gardos - Free?) Midfield Hojbjerg (Claisie - £6m?) JWP (Isgrove - Free) Davis Tadic Sims Hesketh Forwards Gabbiadini (Austin - £3m) Boufal (Rodriguez- £8.5m) Redmond (Long - £10m) Gallagher Big Target Man (£15m) Seagar So £45m to spend versus £31m incoming. Net spend of £14m Futures of McCarthy and Reed to be determined
  5. One of the many good memories of 76 was driving back along the M3 (much shorter length of motorway then) and seeing the 'South Coast Manchester Utd Supporters' coach broken down on the side of the road with a lot of forlorn looking Utd supporters standing around and having to put up with joyous Saints fans gesticulating and offering friendly advice on their way home.
  6. Begs the question, if we had got smashed 4-0 today to make our bad run even worse, I wonder whether the remaining tickets would have gone? Fortunately there is a feel good factor after yesterday. Just a real shame about VVD missing out
  7. Good summary Bit harsh on JWP I think In my opinion worth more than a 4
  8. Love the first comment Remainder not so sure about!!!
  9. Apart from first 10 mins we were completely in control Bit like Bournemouth but even more comprehensive
  10. Not too much contentious to deal with but thought he was excellent today
  11. Will be interesting to see how many coaches make the trip. I think there were 105 for the JPT final We went up on the Greyhound service that day. No longer running
  12. Glad to see that, after all the problems they are having with SISU Coventry supporters will enjoy a day out at Wembley for the Checkatrade Trophy. I guess there will be a decent turnout of their fans but would be surprised if they got near our 51k+ figure There were only 11,000 at the Ricoh for their semi final game v Wycombe but that is understandable bearing in mind the crap hand Coventry supporters have had to face in recent times.
  13. Interesting attacking option. What would worry me would be the formation when we are under pressure. West Ham had more or less free reign down our right flank on Saturday and Cedric was often isolated
  14. According to the Echo he could be out for a few weeks. Doesn't get any better does it?

    Boufal

Looked lively at Swansea and again today in an overall abject performance Sods Law the knock he took today will keep him out for a while and this will add to our growing problems
  16. I seem to be in a minority about Foster. Ok he has not been in the same form at previously but I cant see how he can be blamed for the 3 goals today Davis has been an excellent signing for us for the money. By no means was he the worst performer today. He needs the right formation to fit into which may be the overall problem with the current team
  17. Generally I am not one of those who believes in sacking Managers. However if rumours are to be believed that Koeman's job was under threat after the poor run of results around Xmas last year then Les and Ralph must be looking at what the Black Box can offer. In comparison this run of poor results and abject performances is much worse and the team look totally dispirited and demoralised I have a mate who put £50 on us to go down in December at 50/1 to pay for a couple of a few years season tickets in the Championship if things went tits up. Looks like he will be amongst those suffering watching the Saints in the lower leagues if this mess continues
  18. Roger Fry, the ex Saints full back and a local lad, played for Salisbury that day
  19. Keegan by a mile (European Footballer of the Year), followed by Shilton, Osgood, Dave Watson and resigning Channon. Jimmy Melia caused quite a stir at the time (just joking!!)
  20. Well said Fully agree
  21. In these days of greedy footballers, it is nice to look back on the loyalty shown by the Melchester Rovers players who were wearing the famous red and yellow strip back when I was growing up. Men were men in those days. 1. Tubby Morton 15 years 2. Dave Williams 11 " 3. Bob Roberts 11 " 4. Hughie Griffiths 7 " 5. Paddy Ryan 3 " 6. Buster Brown 3 " 7. Pierre Dupont 2 " 8. Blackie Gray 35 " 9. Roy Race 4 Ever 10. Jim Hallet 9 " 11. Tom Dawson 14 " Manager Ben Galloway Really used to look forward to reading about the exploits of Roy Race and his team mates before the game became exploited by the money men
  22. 'Twas there that day. Drove over from Leeds in my 1962 Triumph Herald and pleased to catch up with mates from Southampton. York City had their club flag flying in a corner of the ground which was being taken down (presumably as a sign of 'surrender'), to the cheers of quite a reasonable contingent of Saints fans in the covered shed where the TV cameras were, when York scored the first of their two late goals. We won the replay. Didn't realise that Albert Johannsen was playing left wing for York on the day. For those who don't know he was one of the very first foreign born players to be signed for a top English club when he turned out (with distinction) for Leeds. He was a South African
  23. I think Eric Martins best game was away to Everton(?) We won 1-0 and Eric was given 10/10 in the Sunday People ratings. If I remember correctly Peter Bonetti was one of the first top team 'keepers who wore gloves - thin green ones. Don't forget that the balls were leather then and got heavier when wet. Keepers were also liable to get clattered from opposing forwards. Tony Godfrey, one of our keepers when I first started watching was only about 5'8" tall
  24. I am really sorry for Lloyd but his (non) performances yesterday and against Sunderland (?) were quite poor and he needs to find his level further down the Leagues.
